Hello neurodivergent people. I was wondering if I'm just weird or it is common to not being able to learn certain motoric skills at the same time as my peers and learned them MUCH later

This whole AI thing is just making me so sad. Like it feels like there aren’t any public spaces on the internet where I can go that won’t get scraped by ai, idk what to do. It’s just making me feel so deeply discouraged, I want to stay with this lovely community I’ve found on here but the idea of posting writing on here just makes me feel guilty and sad. Idk I’ll have to sort out my feelings ab it, it just sucks

You're not alone in feeling like this. I feel very disheartened after being part of such a vibrant and supportive community of people - readers and writers alike. I feel like it's all crumbling down around us.

I've loved being able to share my original writing with people on here for free, as well as writing extra stories for Patreon. I got my start on here, sharing stories because I loved writing them and I thought maybe someone else might enjoy where my odd little brain takes me sometimes.

It's all been completely poisoned by the fact that nothing is sacred; everything is "available by default" for someone else to scrape a profit off it.

I don't want only to produce stories behind a paywall. I want to share what I do for free as well.

Perhaps this is the kick up the backside I needed though to switch to doing it almost full time. It's going to be less accessible, and to fewer people, which makes me feel sad and guilty, but maybe it'll help to focus my little fuzzy moth of a brain into a single goal. (With a side of free stories on Patreon too instead of on Tumblr).

I guess I'm just adding this unhinged ramble to let you and other people know that you're not alone in feeling so desperately disheartened by the state of things.

The other day I saw a YouTuber I follow make a text post that said almost verbatim "sometimes I when I watch a thought provoking movie, I find I think about it for several days afterwards." the highlighted comment was someone saying "I think that's called hyperfixation?"

People seem to be increasingly oblivious to the difference between thinking about or liking something, fixating or focusing on it, and /hyper/fixation as a disxriptor of the extreme of this that occurs in neurodivergent people.

If someone reads "I think about things sometimes" and sees "hyperfixation", then I can totally see it following that "I think about people sometimes" becomes synonymous with "I am an obsessive creepy stalker with no boundaries"

Which. Sure is something.

Obviously the trend of people being weird about 'you need consent to have a crush, but also crushes are a sin' has been a slow rolling train wreck for a few years now, but seeing that YouTube comment made something click for me

In all seriousness though, authors on AO3 have begun to pull their works off of the site to avoid getting sued by people stealing their works to make a pretty bound book for profit. Entire accounts could be shut down as well.

Listen, I’m all for saving favorite works by printing them out and putting them in a binder, or learning how to make a book for a fanfic, but seeking them is where I draw the line.

Literally the entire point of AO3 is that you can read it FOR FREE.

It is DISRESPECTFUL for people to make money off of hardbound copies because guess what, the original creators of these fics get nothing. We are literally only writing fanfiction for our own pleasure.

Buying and selling book-bound fanfiction is also ILLEGAL YOU DUMB SHITS. It’s an immediate violation of copyright law. The original fan work will get erased from the internet.

Fanfiction is already a legal grey zone since they are works being written about are protected by copyright. Copyright holders can in fact go after writers as well as the person who sold the fanfiction.

This also goes for people who steal fanart and, claim it as theirs, and put a price on it.

Don’t make it worse.

Bookbinding fanfiction for profit is literally ruining things for everyone. DON’T.

i dont know about you but i love using containers as mini garbage cans. i put the napkins in the cup and then i throw that whole shebang away. it’s like a little mini package of trash. it makes me feel crazy in love
