I hope no one lowkey hates me. Highkey hate me. Hate me with every fiber of your being. Go big or go home
' its me? hell, its me-- you're ruined. "
» guanghong . . why would you say that? « his facial expression was one of pure disappointment. the other’s words scared him. what could possibly be wrong about them? despite only having known guanghong for such a short amount of time, he’d failed to find any negative aspect about him so far. he seemed so pure and genuine that leo had actually been quite excited to find out they were supposedly meant for each other. why guanghong was apparently so harshly against that was a myth to leo and actually hurt him a little. » how am i ruined if i just found the person i’m supposed to spend the rest of my life with? «
“No! No, it can’t be! That’s not-- no, that’s not it… Leo, I can’t be your name… It’s not possible because… You’re not mine.”
so he was not it. not the person he’d been looking for. the words kept resonating in leo’s head over and over again. ‘ you’re not mine. ‘ that hurt. it was so discouraging especially since he’d been so excited to finally address the topic they had avoided so far. leo had been so certain, too. how likely was it anyway to meet someone with the exact same name that’s been marked on you for years but it’s not T H E M ? and they’d clicked so well too. they had met by total chance, leo had been so sure it had to be destiny. he’d been thinking about visiting asia for a while, china in particular, to go out in search for his soulmate but it was hard getting himself to actually do it. the trip could supposedly end up being protracted and frustrating and he still had a lifetime to find them, but there were worries as well; what if something happened to his significant other or himself before they’d get a chance to meet at all? he didn’t want to risk that either.
however it was a few weeks ago that he’d bumped into this short freckled chinese boy by the name of ji guanghong, right where he went to get groceries every week. he almost lost it when the other had told him his name but naturally he didn’t address right away. it wasn’t common curtesy to do so. also despite his initial excitement, he’d wanted to get to know guanghong a bit first and so they’d talked and met up a few more times until leo was 100% sure he’d met the one by how well they got along right off the bat and by how strangely easily they’d found each other. it was just like a movie.
only the movie had turned out to have no happy end apparently. leo was still shook about the reply but tried to play it off with a laugh that did a pretty bad job trying to hide his disappointment. » oh . . w-well i guess there’s nothing we can do about it then. just forget i ever told you !! « the smile that played on his lips looked terribly broken.
“What if it never happens to me? Do you ever get scared about it?”
» hmm, « leo mused, gaze drifting off to the side as he thought about it for a while. did he get scared? not necessarily. not finding your soulmate was always a worry but leo was a romantic at heart. » no not really. i strongly believe that person is somewhere out there for everyone. the only thing that really scares me is that i might not meet them before they, you know . . die? « that was a sad topic to think about but it was reality. accidents and deadly diagnoses could happen anytime. » what about you? are YOU scared, yuri? «

☆ ┇ truthfully, had he been back home, guanghong would have offered up his surname first, rather than the other way around. however, he knew that being on a first name basis right off the bat was much more common in western countries. plus, it can be a little interesting to hear foreigners attempt to say his name. when leo says it, the tones are completely off, but it’s definitely good for a first try. “ don’t worry, you said it well. i have heard much worse before. ” he knows the tones of chinese are foreign to those who don’t speak the language, so he can’t blame leo for not saying it correctly. hearing him say it decently is enough to finally prompt shy smile from him. plus, it was really… kind of him to try properly, and promise to improve. guanghong has met many who don’t even bother with the right pronunciation.
at the question, guanghong gives a nod in response, not surprised to hear that leo had figured out where he was from. “ yes, it’s– i’m– ” his voice momentarily betrays him and he stumbles over words, and welp, there goes that good first impression, ruined just because he’s a little too jet-lagged, a little too nervous to properly string together words in a language that isn’t even his own. not that he didn’t stutter when speaking mandarin; it was just a little worse now.
he tries again. “ i’m from shanghai, but my coach wanted me to try a training camp outside china. to, uh, see how international skaters are. ” from what he had seen so far, they were pretty darn good, and guanghong knew he would have to give his all just to keep up with everyone. “ you’re… are you from here? ”
so he’d heard worse, huh? leo could hardly believe that. even he could tell that his pronunciation was terribly butchered. guanghong was probably just way too polite to tell him, though. what a sweetheart. » heh, okay now i don’t feel SO bad. « hey, at least leo had managed to make him smile.
the taller brunet breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing he hadn’t been wrong about the other’s nationality. telling that someone was asian by their looks or even their accent was easy but determining between the different countries there was not, at least not for leo. so he was actually quite proud of his observation.
leo patiently waited for guanghong to find his words, noticing the brief struggle which he simply met with an encouraging smile. having two younger siblings, leo was used to waiting out any difficulties with word-finding. he nodded as the shorter teen had finished. » i’m from the states but not from here in particular, « he explained, now getting comfortable leaning his back against the rim or the ice rink. » so i’m basically just as lost as you are. my coach has persuaded me to leave home for once too, ugh. « he laughed casually and started eyeing the other skaters that he’d mostly ignored so far a bit. » so what do you think about our future competitors so far? « leo asked after a while, turning back to guanghong with his head tipped to the side slightly.
