there’s a thoughtful hum that matches that of her companion. soft footfall accompanying as maleficent returns to the bed. fresh bottle of wine in hand, robe just barely tied, hanging loosely off thin frame. ❝ nobody told us anything about what was to become of this place, ❞ she soothes, knees sinking into the mattress in tandem with a shrug, ❝ I don’t think even auradon knew what the hell we were supposed to do here. ❞

life on the isle was far from perfect. inhumane from the day it was created. and yet there were bright spots. their children coming into their lives, like flowers sprouting atop a grave. something colorful in the darkness. something from nothing — and yet, they deserved everything. deserved so much more than their parents were able to give them, at no fault of their own.

maleficent settles into the soft embrace of her beloved’s arms, head rested back against ursula’s shoulder. there’s silence for only a moment as eyes wander across cracked windows. peering out at the embrace of moonlight. ❝ do you think they’re serious about letting some of the kids leave? ❞ her voice was above a whisper, fingertips mindlessly tracing over etches in the bottle,  ❝ I hardly trust any of those motherfuckers, but I’m terrified to deprive them of this chance if it’s legitimate. ❞

there was a ringing within her ears. hands were pressed into either side of the sink basin. the once white porcelain stained and smeared with crimson that still dripped from across the captain’s frame. bruises, darker than the night sky that hung above, littered throughout. hair loose from its usual confines, fell in front of her face, as head is tipped forward. there was always exhaustion after battle. it was as certain as anything. though tonight it sunk deeper into war torn muscles than it ever had. pain radiating through every inch of her body, pulsating through the drakyn’s mind. there were flickers of regret. how could there not be, when all she could feel was flames. was there always? did every soldier carry home a weight of questioning upon their shoulders? or did only monsters feel no doubt?

she barely registers the voice at first. it takes a moment for gaze to turn upward — but in tandem, so do the corners of maleficent’s mouth. ❝ I got knocked from my horse. ❞ her voice is harsh. it usually was after a long conquest. commanding orders overtop chaos always left strain. there’s an echoing crack as she twists her neck sideways, freeing the tension in her neck.

it’s then she manages to stand up straight. not without effort, visibly. yet still bare feet cross stone, closing the gap between them. ❝ hi. ❞ maleficent whispers, thumbs brushing against delilah’s cheeks, taking the archmage’s face into aching palms. leaning down to give a warm, lingering kiss from cold lips.  ❝ I missed you. I did not want to wake you just yet. I've only been back an hour. ❞

happy thursday, y’all !   I know I keep making promises about being on, and then I don’t. but I’ve been getting my head back on straight, finding a balance again when it comes to existing, and I’m actually feeling pretty okay! I’m hoping to be here sometime in the next week, but overall I’m prioritizing vibing!  I hope everyone is doing okay, I love you guys ! ♡

— I think a lot about how in most verses, I tend to have M leaning towards using weaponry when fighting, instead of solely relying or focusing heavily on magic. she absolutely uses magic in battle, but in a similar way to force users in s.tar wars using the force as a tool secondary to their lightsaber in a fight.  ( pushing individuals back to control the flow of the fight, crushing / snapping necks, changing the environment around them, etc. )

magic has always been a part of her, but her brutal nature is something she’s let come forth as she got older. this animalistic nature of the dragon she’s unknowingly suppressed for so long. it sort of boiled over, and now she can’t help but to follow the new chain of command in her body. putting a weapon in her hand, the fluid motion that comes with using it, feels so natural. somehow it feels more natural than magic ever was. and in verses where she’s reincarnated, where magic isn’t a part of minerva and she’s mortal, that fire is still here deep down. even when magic was gone, the fury always would remain.

magic becomes secondary when all she can feel is that red hot rage coursing through her and a desperate need to rip and tear. this part of her that isn’t supposed to be contained in a “humanoid” body; she was robbed of the chance to fully shift, to control those urges, and she’s paying the price heavily for it.

this  is  just  a  friendly  reminder  that  it’s  okay  if  you’re  not  writing  right  now.    it’s  okay  if  you’re  only  able  to  pop  on  here  to  yell  into  the  void  about  your  muses  for  five  minute  and  leave,    or  make  edits  or  goof  around  with  your  friends  and  just  chill,    or  even  do  none  of  that  at  all.    this  is  a  hobby.    it’s  okay  if  you’re  not  in  the  headspace  to  approach  that  one  mutual  yet,   or  answer  those  ims  right  away.   the  world  is  a  stressful  place  for  most  of  us  right  now,    we’re  all  struggling  with  something  one  way  or  another,    and  we’re  mainly  here  to  have  fun.    taking  care  of  yourself  comes  before  any  expectations  anyone  here  has  of  you,   so  don’t  ever  let  someone  shame  you  for  not  being  fully  present  here  for  however  long  that  takes.
