£30,000 golden AK-47 assault rifle seized by police in Honduras

A gold-plated AK-47 assault rifle worth an estimated £30,000 has been seized by authorities in Honduras.

The golden gun, encrusted with expensive jewels, was found by drug officials complete with two silver magazines.

Believed to belong to a group connected to Mexico’s high-profile Zetas drugs cartel, the gun was found during a raid on a ranch 180 miles from the capital, Tegucigalpa.

Miracle owl survives head-on collision with pickup truck

A miracle owl lived to fly another day after surviving a head-on collision with a moving Ford pickup.

The brown feathered bird was left with its head lodged firmly in the grill of the truck following the accidental smash in Addison County, Vermont, on December 11.

‘I received a call from the driver a little after five in the morning explaining that he had hit an owl,’ explained biologist David Sausville, of the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department.

‘He said that the owl was still alive and was lodged in his truck.’

A video posted online purportedly of a golden eagle trying to snatch a toddler in a park in Montreal, Canada, is a fake, it has been claimed.

The video, posted on to YouTube yesterday, shows the eagle – with a wingspan of around 6ft (2m) – circling around a park before swooping down on the unsuspecting child while his father’s attention is momentarily distracted.

However, the eagle almost immediately drops the toddler, who was wearing a thick winter coat.
