This blog is now on hiatus.

If you need to have a look at my past Jaime x Brienne fic recs for any reason, you can still access my Jaime x Brienne Fic Recs Master Post, which mostly covers fics written pre-Season 8 of Game of Thrones.

If you are interested in my fics, I’m languageintostillair on AO3. Here are my major Jaime x Brienne stories:

  • The Assignment // An AU in which Jaime and Brienne are spies working undercover as a married couple with two children. Unfolds over ten years or so; loosely based on the TV series The Americans
  • After an Almost // A modern AU that takes place two years after Brienne broke off a friendship with Jaime, this story explores how a relationship can grow out of heartbreak and trauma.
  • I never knew home until I found your hands // An Office AU that hardly ever takes place in an office, this is a never-ending love story about all the small things. WIP, but mostly written as a series of self-contained episodes.
  • Full Spectrum // A dystopian AU (with a dose of arranged marriage) set in a version of Westeros where the social hierarchy is defined by the ability to see colour; loosely based on the novel Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde. Written for the Jaime x Brienne Fic Exchange 2020.
  • Strings // Three stories – one from Jaime’s POV, and one from Brienne’s, and then a sequel – set in a modern AU in which they begin as colleagues with benefits. Written with a twist on the 5+1 structure.
  • Simple // WIP, Season 8 fix-it in which Jaime doesn’t die (but I don’t explain how), and ends up Warden of the West while Brienne is Lady Paramount of the Stormlands. After two years of minimal interaction, they sleep with each other once, only for Brienne to discover a couple of months later that she’s now with child.

If, by any chance, you ended up here because of the Korean drama Stranger, here are the links you need:

  • “Is there a chance you won’t be okay?”: An Analysis of Hwang Si-mok and Han Yeo-jin’s Final Scene in Stranger/Secret Forest Season 2 // A detailed breakdown of Si-mok and Yeo-jin’s final scene, with comparisons to their final scene in Season 1
  • A Thought Experiment // A Hwanghan (Si-mok/Yeo-jin) ficlet set at some point in Season 2 Episode 13. Yeo-jin thinks about Choi Bit’s question: “Are you more invested?”

Hello I hope you’re still checking this inbox. I’m scouring your braime rec list and driving myself nuts.I’m looking for a fic I read ages ago. It has braime, I think an evil Daenerys, Cersei’s daughter, post S8 named Rohanne, with a birthmark on her cheek, and Jaime pining for Brienne. At one point, bec she doubts him, he has tyrion make a documented formal proposal to her with his dowry attached. Oh, Jon also features and he rides one of the dragons now renamed Robb, please help?

Summary:

At this point in time, what the Family is doing with this house is nothing. That must be the case, or Brienne wouldn’t be here now. She doesn’t want to think about what they did with this house before her first visit here a couple of months ago. It smelled too clean then, she remembers; looked too spotless. It’s always spotless when they come back, no matter what state they leave it in.

Jaime says someone takes care of it. He says that about a lot of things.

Obligatory @jaime-brienne-fic-exchange post! I wrote a super niche AU called Dance Break for LadyRhiyana, inspired by K-pop. It's more of a music industry AU that doesn't require any prior knowledge of that sphere (and I inserted notes where necessary). I tried to make any references feel as natural as possible, mostly playing with lingo that is English in origin, as well as K-pop industry norms. Jaime and Brienne are co-workers in this one, so I think of it as a kind of spiritual successor to my old Office AU.

And thanks very much to @albatrossisland who wrote Who Is Left for me! It's a lovely arranged marriage AU filled with some really sensitive explorations of trauma, based on the poem ‘Habitation’ by Margaret Atwood.

Summary:

And so, at the end of all things, Brienne returned to Tarth alone, a knight and a lady both. And Jaime—Jaime, who is alive, who had knighted her and bedded her and left her—returned alone to Casterly Rock. One of them on the eastern coast, and the other on the west.

It really is as simple as that.

There was nothing particularly remarkable about the way the day began. The remarkable event—the event that forever alters the foundations of Brienne’s existence—that only happens later. Throughout the morning, the babe was still safe within her belly. Now, in the evening, the babe is safe within her arms. It was not such a great distance to travel, she muses, for such a great change; merely from within her body to without. Before today, the child had accompanied her on much longer journeys: from the Red Keep, back to Tarth, across the Stormlands and back again.

About to write an essay about how King the Land, despite its flaws (odd pacing + intense PPL; the latter probably being the main driving force of the former), makes some really nuanced points about class differences and ensuing power dynamics and how these are entangled with personal + professional image and the degree of choice one has within these realms and how much one has the space to forgive depending on the responsibilities one has in one’s social position and—
