Fic rec: Aren’t you worried? by princezimmermann
Author’s summary: Someone flirts with David at a party. Carlos is very concerned about it. Matteo isn’t.
My thoughts: This is my favourite jealousy fic ever. It’s really hard to do jealousy justice and not have characters become ooc or trite, and I’ve read some great ones over the years but none of them has got to me like this one. There’s just something really beautiful about everyone around him freaking out that Matteo should be jealous and should go lay his claim on his man, and having him instead being very very chill.
It allows for a really lovely insight into the characters and particularly into how Matteo sees David. Watching him watch David makes me fall for them all over again and it’s clear just how well Matteo understands David and how well they work together. Despite them barely spending time together in this fic, it’s so obvious how much they care about each other and how good the thing they have is. For a jealousy fic, there’s very little jealousy and it’s really refreshing to see it from this side and in this way.
The side characters, Carlos, Abdi, Jonas and the flirter are all so well done too. They’re not the main focus of the fic, and yet they all play important roles and they all feel real, as if they really exist. It genuinely feels like this is a little moment we could have seen.
favourite line/s: “What does he look like when he’s flirting?” he asks Matteo.
Not like this, Matteo thinks. When David flirts, he stares. His eyes wander up and down, he bites his lower lip, and he looks at you like he’s never seen anything better. It’s overwhelming, being the center of David’s attention, and Matteo will never get tired of it.
I’ll be doing these every so often (eg every few days) over the next little while because I want to share some of the fics I’ve really loved since joining this fandom. I have a few sorted out and up my sleeve (by ‘a few’ I mean, like, 12). I’m always keen to find more, so if anyone has recs for me to look at I’d be eternally grateful if you’d send me an ask or let me know some other way so I can put them on my list. I’m only keen to rec completed fics but if you have wips that seem promising I’d love to hear about them too. Also, if anyone knows tumblr details for people I can’t find I’d be grateful for that too.
