Musical Madness

We all knew it would come down to this. Which should represent the era they defined? Whose show stopping set piece is more impressive? Which show is the best 80’s Mega Musical?

PHANTOM PHANS YALL BETTER GET ON YOUR ZOOOM

I think the next Phantom of the Opera adaptation should let Christine beat Carlotta’s ass. She’s trying her best to stay composed during this whole mess but then Carlotta starts blaming her and makes comments that’s she’s the Phantom’s mistress and planned for all this (So basically Notes Part 2) and it just sets her OFF.

As Kendrick Lamar recently said:

“Beat your ass and hide the Bible if God watching”

I found this random picture of Todd Stashwick's live action Drakken that I haven't seen before while looking for references and this is honestly the purest image I've seen today. This image just sparks so much joy fndasjkngfa.

Yall dont understand, this man got me through freshman year of college and is my number 1 evidence of Drakken being hot af

I want everyone to know that my Erik and Christine sims were running circles around each other for weeks, each too afraid to make a move.

And then as soon as they went on a date, within 5 minutes, Christine asked to move into Erik’s penthouse, ditching Meg, and then tried to fuck him in the bathroom.

Update: They had a threesome with Meg and she gave the both of them an STD…

No but can someone explain the rise in Drakgo’s popularity in the last like 3 years. Cause I really spent most of my childhood being told I was delusional that this was the best relationship in the series and now I’m an adult and it’s the only ship I see with an actual fandom.

I know I say this all the time but I really do love the absolute mess that is Erik and Christine. Like what an absolute train wreck. I can't look away. I want them to fight. I want them to make out. I think they should get married. I think they should never get together.

I think everyone should stay away from them but I also love them having friends and family that look at their relationship with concern but also envy.

I know I’m so late in the game here but one aspect of the discourse around Erik/Christine that bugs me is the idea that people who ship them must be deluding themselves. Like, we’re making it up that the two have a mutual interest in each other or that we only want them together so that Erik’s not alone.

(My love for this relationship focuses more so on Christine’s perspective and her battling conflicting feelings for the Phantom, indulging in them, or her being open with him on her needs for this to work. I really love having this female character that’s being pulled between “dark” and “light” and making messy decisions for her own interests and desires. I like exploring her taking control over her and the Phantom’s relationship, while still staying true to herself. I just find writing her more freeing when she’s with Erik than Raoul (in most cases).

What’s missing from this conversation is that in the near 40 years Phantom has been performed, all over the world, there are different interpretations of the characters and their dynamic by the hundreds of actors that’ve played them. And, in some of these interpretations, the actors make them shippable. There are Christines that are conflicted in leaving Erik, Christines that don’t entirely want to go back to Raoul. There are Christines that kiss Erik 3 times! XD

The most well known production, outside of the movie, has Christine reprise her romantic ballad with her fiancé, looking at the Phantom! The actors here were very open about their version being romantically reciprocated but also unattainable and tragic. Even in these versions where she may still have feelings, she knows she has to leave.

For people that saw these interpretations, it shouldn’t be a surprise that they become interested in the dynamic and want to explore it. And I don’t think it makes sense to feel bad or ashamed about that…when that’s what the actors wanted to convey.

Christine leaving is the right choice, every time. I wouldn’t even like this show or find it believable if she authentically stayed with Erik. And so my, and I’m guessing others, enjoyment of them and their bond isn’t “oh poor Erik! He needs someone, Christine how could you?!”

It's “Man this relationship was a train wreck and at this current moment, these two people should NOT be together. But…wouldn’t it be cool to see what could’ve been if things went right? Or, is there a way to salvage this bond in the future if the people involved took time to reflect, grow, and come back as different people? Let’s explore that!”

I have other thoughts but this is the most coherent rn

Crazy to me how much fanfiction in the Phandom back in the day was drenched in Orientalism and Islamphobia.

Anyway it’s 2024, I wanna see some Muslim!Erik content. Inshallah.

OMG WAIT I AM SPILLING SOME TEA!!

me and partner have this headcannon in our modern! AU where Erik was raised by The Persian/Nadir and his wife and he actually converted to Islam and found comfort once in his life.

WAIT STOP

Cause I’ve always loved the idea of Erik being raised/related to the Persian/Nadir. In my hc, Ramin’s Erik is Nadir’s nephew that he’s been trying to track down for years after young Erik suddenly left Persia.

Post-show Nadir meets Christine and is like “I’m so sorry for my nephew. 28-year olds are a lot ya know” 🤣

Apparently the Middle East Tour changes the ending with Raoul being the one holding up the mask, instead of Meg, back in the present as an old man.

I raise you another ending idea…

Old Man Raoul holding up the Phantom mask, looking up at a young Christine, who looks up dreamily at an unmasked Phantom, who looks back at her
