Yes, Sir

A breath was sucked in. Sweat ran down his chest. The boy wasn’t very big. No, he was quite scrawny in fact, though with the way the muscles corded down his arms, he’d clearly been fighting for as long as he could realize.

Tail lashing, the Seeker boy dove at the target again. It was trussed up, mimicking a member of the Wood Wailers. In an arc, he swung the gunblade upwards. He panted, struggling to pull on the trigger.

Silence.

He couldn’t pull it. The sharp end of the gunblade clanged off the mannequin, his small hands barely holding onto it as it fell it the cold, metal floor below. A man walked up. Dressed in traditional Garlean wear, he looked down at the Miqo’te, with all three eyes. He sneered, hands folded behind his back. Slowly, the boy looked up, hope in his purple eyes. A hand flung out, slapping across his cheek, harsh and sincere. Almost immediately, the Seeker’s eyes watered, teeth digging into his bottom lip as he choked back the instinctive sob that came. “Do better. Again.” Reluctantly, drained, the boy started pulling himself up by his gunblade. “You have a gift, Rehla.”

The words were simple, but they struck something with the young boy, his breath hitching. “A weapon. And we will hone you into what you’re meant to be.”

The man moved forward, trailing one hand up the Miqo’te’s spine causing him to shiver and hold back more tears, even as he pressed closer, desperate for anything. “Thank you, sir.”

Dandelions - How to Identify

Flowers are sweetest when picked young.  They have a sweet, honey-like flavor.  Mature flowers are bitter.  Dandelion buds are tastier than the flowers: best to pick these when they are very close to the ground, tightly bunched in the center, and about the size of a small gumball.  Good raw or steamed.  Also made into wine. Young leaves taste good steamed, or tossed in salads.  Magick Meanings - increase psychic ability, calling spirits.

Daylilies - How to Identify

Slightly sweet with a mild vegetable flavor, like sweet lettuce or melon.  Their flavor is a combination of asparagus and zucchini. Some people think that different colored blossoms have different flavors.  To use the surprisingly sweet petals in desserts, cut them away from the bitter white base of the flower.   Magick Meanings - forgetting worries, chastity, faith, wisdom, Holy Trinity, chivalry, royalty, fertility NOTE: Many Lilies contain alkaloids and are NOT edible.  Day Lilies may act as a diuretic or laxative; eat in moderation.

Magick Meanings - merriment, thoughtfulness

Peony - How to Identify

In China the fallen petals are parboiled and sweetened as a tea-time delicacy.  Peony water was used for drinking in the middle ages. Add peony petals to your summer salad or try floating in punches and lemonades. Magick Meanings - happy marriage, compassion, bashfulness

Primrose - How to Identify

Also know as Cowslip.  This flower is colorful with a sweet, but bland taste. Add to salads, pickle the flower buds, cook as a vegetable, or ferment into a wine. Magick Meanings - health, beauty

Queen Anne’s Lace - How to Identify

Also known as Wild Carrot and Bishop’s Lace.  It is the original carrot, from which modern cultivars were developed, and it is edible with a light carrot flavor.  The flowers are small and white, and bloom in a lacy, flat-topped cluster.   Magick Meanings - dainty, luck, purity NOTE: The problem is, it is closely related to, and looks almost exactly like another wild plant, Wild or Poison Hemlock, which often grows profusely in similar habitats, and is said to be the most poisonous plant native to the United States.  The best way to differentiate between the two plants is to remember that Queen Anne’s Lace has a hairy stem, while the stems of Wild Hemlock are smooth and hairless and hollow with purple spots.
Flavors depend on type, color, and soil conditions.  Flavor reminiscent of strawberries and green apples. Sweet, with subtle undertones ranging from fruit to mint to spice.  All roses are edible, with the flavor being more pronounced in the darker varieties. Freeze them in ice cubes and float them in punches also.  Petals used in syrups, jellies, perfumed butters and sweet spreads.   Magick Meanings - love, remembrance, beauty NOTE: Be sure to remove the bitter white portion of the petals. Rose Petal Jam Rose Petal Drop Scones Rose Petal Tea

Sunflower - How to Identify

The flower is best eaten in the bud stage when it tastes similar to artichokes.  Once the flower opens, the petals may be used like chrysanthemums, the flavor is distinctly bittersweet.  The unopened flower buds can also be steamed like artichokes. Magick Meanings - adoration, haughtiness

Tulip Petals - How to Identify

Flavor varies from tulip to tulip, but generally the petals taste like sweet lettuce, fresh baby peas, or a cucumber-like texture and flavor. Magick Meanings - fame, perfect love NOTE: Some people have had strong allergic reactions to them.  If touching them causes a rash, numbness etc.  Don’t eat them!  Don’t eat the bulbs ever.  If you have any doubts, don’t eat the flower.
Sweet, perfumed flavor. I like to eat the tender leaves and flowers in salads.  I also use the flowers to beautifully embellish desserts and iced drinks.  Freeze them in punches to delight children and adults alike. Heart-shaped leaves are edible, and tasty when cooked like spinach. Magick Meanings - faithfulness, happiness, love, virtue, modesty, loving, watchfulness

This is an AMAZING resource, thank you so much for putting it together!!!

I want to eat every plant in the world

Putting the Dog to Sleep

The following is a reflection of our tragic boys Tarjei and @danesbury finalizing their divorce as they signed the papers and bid each other farewell. Theme Music for the short read & muse: https://youtu.be/Xg8Ckamh8Gw

Danesbury-WyrmrestAccord: Happiness is fleetin’, Tarjei, but I am happy righ’ now. More than I was with Maxwell. It ain’ serious, but I will take what I can get.

Tarjeii-WyrmrestAccord: slowly nodded his head as he turned his eyes to the canals before them. “I am glad you’ve found your happiness again, that is all I wished for you.” Danesbury-WyrmrestAccord: let out a quiet snort, looking to the canals himself. “Well, who knows how long it’ll las’. I don’ expect it ta, but like I said, I’ll take what I can get."

Tarjeii-WyrmrestAccord: would slowly nod his head in agreement. "Neither of us were meant to be, but for the time we had one another, perhaps, that was meant to be. As at that time we were what each other needed. Even if, it wasn’t meant to last as our hearts had so desired. It is easy to love, but it is harder to know when it has become merely an obsession or a desire to not be alone.”

Danesbury-WyrmrestAccord: narrowed his eyes slightly. “What are ya suggestin’, Tarjei?” He said, voice low and deadly. “I don’ deny tha’ out marriage was unhealthy in points, but it don’ mean I ever stopped lovin’ you. I will never, ever forget what we had. I do cherish it, despite th’ faults.”

Tarjeii-WyrmrestAccord: remained perfectly calm and neutral in tone and appearance. “I am merely suggesting that this was the wisest path we could take. You might not see it now but in time I am in hopes you might.”

Danesbury-WyrmrestAccord: let out a derisive snort. “It migh’ seem wise ta you, ‘cause you don’ have tha’ emotion ta hold ya back, but I still do. Tha’ ain’ changin’. I am happier than I have been, yes, but I would not consider m'self truly happy. I still need ta find m'self. I can only hope it will come in time.”

Tarjeii-WyrmrestAccord: slowly glanced at him still remaining calm and neutral. “I hope you will as well, for what it is worth.” He said seeming not interested in saying anything more as what worth was there in an emotionless clean slate’s words.

“Prove to me I’m not gonna die alone Put your arm 'round my collar bone Open the door Don’t lie to me If you’re putting the dog to sleep That pet you just couldn’t keep Couldn’t afford Well prove to me I’m not gonna die alone Unstitch that shed off soul To close up the hole that tore through my skin Well my trust in you Is a dog with a broken leg Tendons too torn to beg For you to let me back in You said I can’t prove to you You’re not gonna die alone But trust me to take you home To clean up that blood all over your paws You can’t keep running out Kicking yourself off the bed Kicking yourself in the head Because you’re kicking me too Put your trust in me I’m not gonna die alone Put your trust in me I’m not gonna die alone I don’t think so” - The Antlers- Putting the Dog to Sleep
