Have any of your friendships ever ended because you were always the first one to talk to someone and one day you stopped to see if they would talk to you first and they never did so you just stopped talking to each other?

Hey so I see this post a lot on my dash, and so I’m gonna take this moment to say something about it. When you are always the one initiating contact or hangouts with your friends, then it sets up a certain expected dynamic between the two of you. And so when you stop contacting them, they may be so used to you being the one who reaches out that when you don’t, they’ll assume it’s just because you’re busy. Or because you no longer want to hang out with /them/. So instead of just cutting off contact, talk to your friends. Let them know that you feel like you’re the one always making plans. You’ll be surprised at the number of them willing to make a change to help you feel more appreciated and loved. People can’t read minds. If you don’t tell them what you need or how you feel, then they’ll never know.

80% of "passing" is having enough money to purchase the clothes and services that will allow you to pass. Please stop holding being able to stealth up as the pinnacle of trans achievement. That place belongs to surviving. It belongs to finding joy. It belongs to love and community, not people who are rich enough to have professional makeup artists and tailors.

the people in the replies of this post must be so fucking privileged to think that passing doesn't require money.

my binder was about $50, i only got free shipping because of the country i happen to live in. i use minoxidil for facial hear, a box of that was around $40. going to a barber instead of a hairdresser so i don't get a femme hair cut, that's $30 and i'd have to do it regularly. i still have to wear a pronoun pin to remind people i'm not a girl, that was around $10. if i want to go on T without a perscription, it'll be in the 100s, but even with medicare it's about $5 a bottle and again that's a repeated, regular purchase that will stack up over time. even before surgery, my gender conformity gets expensive.

and here's the kicker: i'm intersex. i've already got masculine features like an adam's apple and some facial hair and an androgynous voice despite being assigned female when i was born, and i still need to do all of this to not get misgendered. so imagine how expensive that is for a trans person who isn't intersex, who has to try even harder.

if you think that passing doesn't cost money, you have your head up your ass and i am begging you to listen to people who live/have lived in poverty because it's clearly not something you can comprehend.

The leftism leaving peoples' body when A Poor Person shares their opinion on something.

(seriously so many of these replies are just barely veiled classism)

having one of those executive function days where everything is too many steps

by which i mean, like, here's how my brain parses the steps in making coffee

good day:

  1. make coffee

regular day:

  1. put water in coffee maker
  2. put coffee in coffee maker
  3. turn on coffee maker

bad day:

  1. take pot from coffee maker
  2. turn on sink
  3. fill up coffee pot
  4. turn off sink
  5. pour water into coffee maker
  6. put coffee pot in coffee maker
  7. open cupboard
  8. get coffee filter from cupboard
  9. get coffee beans from cupboard
  10. put filter in coffee pot
  11. measure coffee
  12. pour coffee into filter
  13. close coffee maker
  14. turn coffee maker on

anyway this is a "14 steps to make coffee" kind of day

“Why should rich people pay more” because fuck ‘em

“So you are okay for paying more when you have money” I am not excluded from ‘fuck ‘em’ when relevant

“I am not excluded from ‘fuck ‘‘em’ when relevant” is surprisingly powerful as both a statement and philosophy

the thing is the king charles portrait is genuinely incredible and exactly how I would execute a portrait of a member of the british royal family but also I literally cannot fathom why the british royal family would have it made

like yeah if I were going to make a portrait of king charles I would absolutely have just his smugly smirking face leering out of a mass of red that could only be read as blood and gore, and have his military uniform fading ambiguously into the same background to lay bare the brutality of imperialism concealed by the pomp and ceremony of the british state, and make the entire thing sort of look like it was decaying to indicate the rot of the empire. like I really struggle to imagine a better visual metaphor for the nightmarish history of a dying empire than the king's spiffy military uniform and saber and sash and rows of epaulets being literally made out of a rotting field of blood and gore. but like why did he have it commissioned... why did he have it MADE and then say Looks great I'm putting it on the wall... HE EVEN LOOKS LIKE HE'S IN HELL

i think the worst thing about the whole “anti-woke” culture is how it’s not only dumbing down people (folks are literally forgetting pronouns are an actual word class, an inseperable part of grammar and everyday speech) but also praising meanness and insensibility above all. it has managed to make malice and unkindness synonymous with factfulness and reason as if intelligence didn’t stem from emotions. as if feelings weren’t the very core of human beings. as if knowledge wasn’t achieved through passion, sympathy, and open-mindedness. as if the whole crux of this entire anti-wokeness movement wasn’t rooted in pure unadulterated emotion of hatred and hostility.
