Cole Cassidy was a man who spent most of his life moving around from place to place, not a lot of it from his own choices until he was sixteen. His life choices got a little dicey after that, he could admit, but it had been a couple years after a life-threatening situation that knocked him back onto the right path. That path had lead him here, to the dorms of university. He stared at the building, standing by his two suitcases that held everything he owned.
If he were honest with himself, he was terrified. He didn't know what he was doing, didn't know what he wanted to do, and had taken up a major that seemed mildly interesting (criminal detective). Now he had to face the dorm situation. It hadn't been his first choice, but he had quickly learned that on campus or near campus housing was near impossible to afford.
He sighed, and resigned himself to his fate. Better to get it over with and start the process. He just hoped his roommate would be decent.
He made a face at that and sighed, "I'll try and get every body in that part of studies to stop bothering you. That's like the third one--" Cole adjusted the sleeves of his blue plaid button down, rolling them up to his elbows. "Enough of that though- today is a day meant to forget about all of that. As much as possible anyway."
Jamie smiles up at Cole as he sits up. "I'd appreciate that. Don't be too harsh. At least this guy was pretty respectful about it. He wanted to know about the process of working with the lawyer rather than the details of what happened to me." he explains. "Now i'm excited to see what you've got planned. Let me just change real quick." He says going to his room and emerging several minutes later in somme fresh pants and a nice golden orange colored button down shirt.
"Oh, I suppose that's okay. Better than the details." Cole triple checked the reservation he had made weeks prior. The worker that had taken his reservation had seemed nervous and possibly a little over worked. In turn Cole was nervous, but he had the confirmation text that had been sent shortly after the call, so he felt a little better. Not that it stopped him from checking several times since he woke up. As soon as Jamie stepped out Cole smiled, "That color looks really good on you Jamie."
Jamie blushes a bit at the compliment. He’s definitely not used to them but they make his heart flutter. Especially when they come from Cole.
“Thanks. Ma always said it brought out my eyes. You look real handsome too. Now, where are we off to?” He asks as he pulls on his boot and ties the laces.
"I want it to be a surprise, but..." Cole grinned, "Well I made reservations at that spot you said you wanted to try. The one you mentioned ages ago, remember?" He fidgeted with things around the room as Jamie got ready, making sure he had everything he needed in the process.
Jamie gasps at hearing that. “That really nice steak place with the amazing bread? Oh my god thank you so much Cole! I’ve been dying to try it out! Angela told me about it. Their bread is apparently amazing and they have really good food. I’m so excited!” She says with a beaming smile, even more excited now than he was before.
Only a few more minutes and he’s all ready to go, he even managed to brush out and smooth down his hair. “All ready!”
"Yes, exactly the spot," he said with a chuckle. His eyes stayed glued to Jamie, watching the excitement. The sparkle in his eyes mirrored that, since he was just so happy to see the change in Jamie. Cole pretended he had not been watching as Jamie presented himself. He patted down his pockets to be sure he had everything and held open the door. "Then let us go and enjoy the evenin' then, darlin'."
Jamie practically bounces out of the door in excitement. He's wanted tot ry this restaurant for ages and to finally get the chance with Cole no less has him over the moon happy.
As they get into Cole's car he mentions, "Angela said we have to try their deviled eggs. they apparently put candied bacon on top and theyre super delicious."\
"Oh man, you've just sold me. Wasn't too sure before," he said with a grin. The drive was full of much of the same, teasing each other but all in good fun. Talking about the restaurant, what they had done that day, and what they planned to do the next with their free day. Once they were parked near the place, Cole felt that knot in his stomach again. He ignored it though- he was just being anxious and paranoid. It had gotten bad lately, but he'd been good and keeping it down. This was just one of those moments. "Shall we?" Cole said, having opened the door for Jamie, hand out for him.
Jamie nods taking Cole’s offered hand and getting out of the car. “Lead the way, cowboy,” he says with a beaming smile as he holds Cole’s arm all fancy like.
For the millionth time since everything went down he thinks to himself how incredibly lucky he is to have Cole as a friend. He takes such good care of Jamie, making sure he’s safe and comfortable and doing all these things to get his mind off the trial. He feels more safe and cared for, and dare he say it, Loved, than he ever felt when he was with Tyler.
