Well, it looks like this show is now my life. My name's Maggie, I’m a vet student and I post about Rick and Morty because I am emotionally invested in it. Sideblog of thehylianmusician.

the rick and morty s4 finale made me emo because as much as rick needs it for his character development, he just wants to be needed. and im not saying hes not a shit father he is as shitty as they come. but when the galactic feds arent after him, his daughter isn’t looking for validation, morty is no longer the wide eyed unremarkable that he previously thought he was, summer is no longer competing for his attention, and his best friend is dead? he is the loneliest man in the galaxy. he thought that because he was the smartest man in the galaxy he didn’t need anyone else, but the truth is he just wanted to be needed. and now no one needs him.

God this moment is so good.

After all his failures, he considers consulting his family, then stops. Considers leaving, then stops. And then he just resigns to being alone in his garage. God this episode came out of nowhere and stole my spine.

what i say: i'm fine
what i mean: we know beth deified her father, but that season finale really hammered home how much. she gave her father complete control over her life. she would have left her husband and kids if HE wanted her to, but really what she wanted from him was honesty and vulnerability. rather than recognize her emotional needs, rick did the rick thing and took the coward’s tone deaf way out by using science to have his cake and eat it too. it’s like what beth was saying that she asked him to make her all those gadgets as a kid because she wanted him to spend time with her. she left her life up to him because ultimately she wanted him to tell her to stay because HE wanted her to stay. she wanted him to need her, and rick COMPLETELY missed the point yet again lmao. if you keep saying you don't need anyone, they're eventually going to stop needing you. rick is constantly contradicting himself between caring/not caring, but no one is going to tolerate that hot-and-cold attitude forever, and now he's finally reaping what he's sowed.

No matter what they end up doing with Evil Morty, I want to see Rick freak out and panic when he finds out about him like he never has before. I want to see Rick admit he can’t handle something and ask his family for help. I want to see him admit he can’t defeat Evil Morty on his own. Especially with how the show has alluded to a “Cocky” Morty being one of Rick’s biggest fears

THIS IS THE FINALE WE DESERVED. THIS EPISODE WAS EVERYTHING WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR (minus evil Morty but honestly that would've been too much for our minds to handle with everything else going on). We got:

-Rick killing Tammy

-Phoenix Person

-RICK KEEPING PHOENIX PERSON AND TRYING TO TURN HIM BACK INTO RICK'S BEST FRIEND

-Clone Beth, resulting in two badass Beth's

-Morty and Summer teaming up and kicking ass, what a great arc

-Jerry being useful

-Everyone finally done with Rick's shit

-Invisible garbage truck Jerry

I seriously cannot believe this episode was real, it was perfect. I'm sorry Tales From the Citadel, you slide into my #2 favourite episode spot. What an amazing ending to the season, now I need to go cry and see about that medically induced coma they wouldn't let me do after last season.

Rick is finally seeing the consequences of his actions. His daughters don't need him and possibly even hate him. Morty and Summer are fully capable of having adventures without him. And his best friend, back from the dead, tells him he's a bad friend and now wants to kill him.

Even his sworn enemies think of him as yesterdays news.

He has no one and nothing. Not even his reputation as the most wanted man in the universe.

He can run from reality to reality until he's dead, but it will always end the same way. With him, alone, and unwanted.

And that is why I think this will be a turning point for Rick. He's tried running, tried ignoring, tried dominating his problems, but his problem is himself.

He is finally seeing that he needs to do something different.

And I think he'll do it, because this Rick is the Original. And I think this Rick DOES care.
