There are times when you may feel like no one cares, especially your parents. But they are hard on you because they love you and they always want what is best for you. Always, always keep that in mind.

So... a lot of people are making posts about dealing with the cold in the south rn, and yes that is important, but I haven’t seen much about DRIVING. While yes you should be staying off the roads, realistically, at some point people are going to have to go out. So, I just wanted to let my southern followers know about a feature that MOST modern (2005 on) cars have, that you have never used before: ABS.

This is the Automatic Braking System that engages when you start sliding while braking. You will know when it kicks in because:

It sounds TERRIFYING. you will likely think something is breaking(ha braking) because it is a series of rapid CLUNKS.

The brake pedal will PUSH BACK AGAINST YOUR FOOT. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL.

The system rapidly applies and lessens the brakes on your wheels, which helps prevent you from sliding. If you take you foot off the brake, it will disengage and take until you slam on the brakes again to start over. Just keep the pressure until you stop.

Other driving tips:

You are most likely to spin out while changing directions, whether that is lane changes or turns. This is especially true when coming off a clear road to a snowy/icy one. Keep it slower than you think (seriously, like under 20-15 mph) when turning.

If the road looks WET, it could be BLACK ICE. This is a very thin layer of ice and it is SLICK. Go slow.

If you lose traction while going forward/turning, let go of the wheel for a second and let off the gas (don’t brake). Your wheels will try to straighten, and then you can feather the gas until your tires catch.

As always, when in doubt, go slow. Assume everyone is an idiot and has never driven in these conditions before.

IT HAS ALSO BEEN REALLY HELPFUL FOR UNDERSTANDING ONLINE MOB HARASSMENT.

So if you’ve ever been bombarded w threats to be raped/killed, (so…if you’re a minority and you’ve been on the Internet for a while), this book might be useful for getting clarity around the whole entitled, abusive mindset that drives certain kinds of people to behave that way. And by “getting clarity”, I mean (for me) being able to go “oh, that’s what’s happening” and not really feel scared anymore. Or angry, or drawn out into it, or anything.

And if you’re still standing around going “but how does something like GamerGate happen?” or “but why do men hit their wives?” or whatever – please read that book and learn something.
