US Presidential Election and Its Effect for The World

It is undeniable that the events happening in the United States of America can somehow affect other countries as well. As a country with a great power, most developing countries even look up to them. USA is a role model, and everything that is happening there, is going to affect the world too.

Same thing applies to the US Presidential Election, and we all know that this year’s election is the most troubling one yet. Both candidates have their own history, some problematic, and some not. The things they used to say are now a contrary to what they told the public, one claimed to never had said that and the other apologized for it. They didn’t shake hands when the debate was about to start, indirectly declaring that their visions are too far apart that they didn’t find the necessity to be polite to each other.

We’ve asked a few American citizens to voice out their opinions about both candidates and how it will affect the US. The answers vary from indifference to passianote rants.

We asked Ernesto about his thoughts on this matter,

“US is the first economy of the entire world, they ‘control’ all of us. If someone like Trump (a xenophobe, racist, disrespectful) gets to the Oval Office, he will destroy every alliance with other countries, the diplomats (US ambassadors councils) will be like him. And Hillary is not so good, either. I prefer Bernie Sanders.”

And Chris, who has different views from Ernesto,

“I feel as if Hillary gets in she will do more stupid stuff like bengazi and Donald Trump the only thing he has for him involving the world will be his cabinet helping him ake decisions. If he listens to his cabinet then it will it will be okay, but if he does whatever he wants then bad decisions will be made.”

We then moved on to asking Defcon if he thought that this election is going to gives an impact on this world, his answer was simple but blatant,

“100% will. America affects the rest of the planet. If the wrong person is elected then things can go to sh— very quickly; currency, war, international relationships, respect. It can all go to ti—s up.”

And of course we also have people who doesn’t care like Thomas who answered,

“Hmm… I think that everybody’s a d—head”

And Dodan who called out the government,

“I think politics is bulls—. F— the government. They hide the truth from people. I think it only affects the US, but if the US ties and debts worldwide so it might affect the world. Politicians communicate worldwide. It’s a large business, they have to negotiate, compromise to agreements, and communicate to prevent war between countries.”

As people who lives on the other side of the earth, miles away from the United States of America, we know a lot about what is going on there. The debate was aired in one of our local channel, discussions were made about both candidates, and scandals were spread among us all. Indonesia, as a country with muslim as its majority, fears the fact that Donald Trump might ban muslims from the country if he got elected. Women all over the world are scared to have a sex offender running as the president  of the US. It’s also clear that many people of color hopes that Trump wouldn’t get elected because he has been proven to be racist.

Now before we discuss about how this election is affecting the world in a large scale, let’s educate ourselves with both candidates’ visions for America:

Donald John Trump has ‘Make America Great Again’ as his tagline. He prioritizes the jobs, wages, and the security of American people. He also promises that American workers could get a job first, not only that, he will establish a new immigration control to increase the wages. The immigration law he makes will include the selection for immigrants based on their likelihood to success in America and their support for America’s values. The immigrants from countries with large criminal number will more likely be suspended[i-[1] , or to be put it bluntly, denied. His point being that he will enforce these laws to restore the constitutional rule of law, which he believes will affect the prosperity and security of United States of America.

His visions for America doesn’t end there. Economic-wise, he promises that he will create 25 million available jobs in America. He also plans to apply a pro-growth tax[i-[2] , in which he stated that the low-income workers wouldn’t have to pay for tax. The tax cut for the individual income tax will surely benefits the working and middle-class taxpayers. It will also benefit those who works in the business field, as it lowers the percentage of business tax from 35% rate to 15% rate. This will hopefully can be seen as an invitation to do more business investments.

Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, is the first female candidate in the US presidency. She has many visions for the United States of America. Regarding Americans’ responsibility in tax, she wants to make sure that the wealthy, corporations, and Wall Street pay their fair share of taxes. That vision is similar with Trump’s, the difference is that Trump wanted lower tax percentages for the people while Clinton just wanted people to be responsible of their taxes. She also wants to find an economy that will work for everyone, namely by fixing America’s infrastructure because she believes that it is critical to a strong economy. She also belives that by strengthening the manufacturing, people will be able to make it in America, so that no child will be raised in poverty.

Clinton has something Trump doesn’t: her vision for Americans’ health. She wants to put an end to Alzheimer’s disease by 2025, that includes knowing how to prevent it and finding a cure. Same also applies for HIV, AIDS, and addiction to drugs, which has hit a critical level within the society. Putting an end to those things are important because it will lead to a better and healthier society. Another goal of hers is to be able to provide affordable health care for Americans, including giving medical leaves for many workers in the US. Last but not least, addressing mental health crisis in the US and putting an end to the stigmas that has existed for many, many years. It’s about making people realize that there’s nothing to be ashamed of having a mental illness so that people can have the help they need.

Socially, Clinton wants to be able to give people with autism the support that they deserve. She also adresses how important it is to create a saver campus for students, so that they don’t have to worry about getting sexually assaulted. With many cases of gun violence throughout the year, she wants to prevent it from happening ever again. Workers, people with disability, the LGBT community, women, immigrants, and people of color should be able to have their rights sustained. She also say that “gay rights are human rights”.

In the political field, Clinton wants democracy to be as inclusive as it could be for everyone, not just people with money. She also wants to make the right to vote an easier thing for Americans.

She wants to maintain the country’s great military power to help combat terrorism and keeping it out of the United States. Reforming the criminal justice system is also a way to press the number of criminals from growing.

Now that it’s finally election day, Americans are voting for the candidates they believe in. People all over the world are sitting at the edge of their seats, anxious as to who will be in the Oval Office soon.

Here’s some things you need to know about both candidates and how it affects the world:

Trump’s new immigration control will include the policy in which he will make a wall between the US and Mexico known as “Southern Border”, he will also make sure that Mexico pays for it as well. He had visited Mexico and discussed this with Enrique Peña Nieto, the Mexican president. He said that they were there to discuss about the wall, hadn’t reached that part of the conversation in which they discuss about the payment of the wall. Quite the contrary to Trump’s statement, Peña Nieto tweeted tweeted that he had clearly stated that Mexico will not pay for the wall, he had also made it clear that Mexicans were offended by Trump’s racist comments about the country. Mexico didn’t agree to this, would Trump still enforce his policy? Maybe even sparking a feud between the two countries?

We’ve heard many of his racist comments, one that made Mexicans offended was probably from when Trump University was sued by the federal judge, Gonzalo Curiel. He claimed that he couldn’t hear the case fairly because of his Mexican heritage. In his defense, because he wanted to make a wall between Mexico and America, the judge was biased.

Curiel was born and raised in America. He was once a prosecutor in the 90s, going after a Mexican drug cartel and is now a target of assassination by one of the drug lords. Trump jumped to a conclusion just by his race, basically saying that certain groups of people can’t do their job because of their races.

You can also read about other examples of his racist comments here.

If Trump were to be a president, clearly America won’t be a safe place for people of color. He didn’t, and probably still doesn’t, employ black people. How will they have jobs in the future? He talked about people of color like they were objects, items, starting it with ‘the’. He acts as if other races are inferior to his.

His pro-growth tax program needs to be questioned as well. It’s not a secret that he hasn’t been paying his tax for a long time. Clinton has called him out for this during debates. Will Americans be able to trust that when Trump is the president he will use the tax money for the greater good of the country? Or will he just keep it to himself? Will it be used to build a wall? A nuclear? The possibilities of what he could do with the tax money, that he probably wouldn’t pay himself, is endless. And they’re all terrifying for everyone all over the world.

Moving on to Clinton, she promises that she will get racial justice for everyone. But is she not a racist herself?

She’s proven to be anti-black, because when she was the first lady of America, she referred to black youth as “super-predators”, indicating that she tought all young black male were violent criminals. In 2005, she also voted to construct a wall because she said she was “adamantly against illegal criminals”. Last April, she referred to black people as lazy, like Trump once did.

In another case, she also said in her visions for the US, she will eliminate sexual assaults if she is to become the president of the US. But, she once became a rapist’s defense lawyer.

Kathy Shelton, who was 12 years old when she was sexually assaulted by a man named Thomas Alfred Taylor in Arkansas, told he media that ‘Hillary Clinton is not for women and children’.

Clinton pleaded him down to ‘unlawful fondling of minor’. The 41 years old man was then served only less than a year in prison. The plea came after Clinton was able to block the admission of forensic evidence that linked her client to the crime.

Clinton accused Shelton of ‘seeking out older men’ in the case and demanded that she undergo a grueling court-ordered psychiatric examination. The presidential candidate later laughed while discussing aspects of the case in a recently-unearthed audiotaped interview from the 1980s.

Shelton says she’s furious that Clinton has been portraying herself as a lifelong advocate of women and girls on the campaign trail.

Regarding to her saying of the LGBT+ rights in  2007, on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Clinton said that she didn’t support gay marriages. She said that marriage should be left up to the state. She only announced her support of marriage equality in 2013. What a hypocrite.

It seems like she just started to support marriage equality to lure and gather attentions from the community. Making people a bit sceptical about this whole “gay rights is human rights” thing. She could probably abandon this vission once she is to be elected.

In conclusion, what we get from Trump’s possible precidency is if he became one, he would harm women, people of colour, middle and lower class workers, immigrants, foreigners, the LGBT+ community, and sexual assault victims. Basically just everyone all over the world. Muslims will have to wear an identification, and his presidency will also have negative effects on the US’s position in the International system.

And the same goes for Clinton, but with lesser possibility.

I was more concerned with the fact that i knew that he had to be a realistic threat to some extent. I never approached it in the sense that he’s a villain or that he should be a really villainous character but that he was a threat.
