CHECK YOUR DEBIT AND CREDIT CARDS PEOPLE THAT HAVENT BOUGHT ANYTHING FROM THEM IN A YEAR ARE REPORTING FRAUD PURCHASES
It’s worse than that. Okay so I’ve been looking at the comments and responses to this for the past two days and I want to try and clarify/document some things. Whatever this is, a lot of Creation customers were effected. This is not related to Stands from what I can tell or any of the independent artists that buy sales floor space from Creation at cons. All of our systems are different. Independent artists mostly use Square and PayPal (but not always!) and Creation runs their cards through some other system stationed through California. I know b/c this is a common problem independent artists have to deal with when customers buy stuff from Creation at the cons then come to us and pay with card and then we pop up on their card activity as a different state and our transactions are denied because people forget to tell their bank they are traveling and this is a scenario that will happen. A call always fixes this.
Creation was always just an investment partner with Stands. Their systems were never together.
People are getting hit that haven’t even been to their first con yet or any con at all so whatever this is it’s widespread and not limited to Creation. The non con going card hits could be a separate coincidence or not. It’s not clear yet. There seems to be a widespread collection effort here. A lot of people have Creation as a common denominator tho.
It also goes back to at least 2015.
This is Creation’s latest word on the situation.
The fact that Creation checked their systems and found no breach is troubling. I don’t know what to say beyond that.
From what I can tell this is not related to the recent Starwood hotel breach because ppl are getting hit who have cards specifically reserved for all Creation purchases.
And those are the cards effected between the two in this specific attack. Whoever did this also likely sold info in batches (b/c that’s how these things usually go) so just because you didn’t get hit in the first wave, that doesn’t mean you won’t eventually. I haven’t been hit and I’ve been booking tickets, ops and tables since 2014 through Creation. I also vend several dozen cons a year. Even still, I’m canceling all my cards ASAP just in case and I recommend anyone who has bought anything past 2015 with Creation to do the same just to be safe because I honestly don’t see how their systems couldn’t be involved. Notify your financial institute(s) ASAP to get ahead of this as much as you can, friends.
