hard 2 explain but. barbie movie is kind of like astrology. if you're normal yes we can have a conversation about how it's def not the epitome of feminist praxis but was fun & largely harmless. if ur a weirdo about it & use it as an excuse to mock women: congratulations it's now my single favorite movie and i love it and nothing is wrong with it literally at all and it's actually better than any movie ever made

Wolves React To Gamekeeper Who Had Been Away On Maternity Leave

Avatar

“WHERE’S YOUR PUPPY! WE WANNA SEE YOUR PUPPY! DID YOU JUST HAVE THE ONE? DO YOU HAVE THEM WITH YOU? ARE THERE PHOTOS?”

I’m not a hundred percent positive but I’m pretty sure this is the wild life center where I visited wolves.

And the safety briefing included the question “So if you’re pregnant, do you want to know or not?”

Turns out there had been a bit of an awkward situation once where the keepers had casually mentioned a woman’s pregnancy in a group, and she herself didn’t even know yet. Turns out the wolves are excellent at telling if you’re pregnant and the keepers can tell based on their body language.  They get all odd and careful around pregnancy. (Even wolves knows that you have to take care of pregnant people.)

So they definitely knew she was pregnant.

And if I remember my BBC documentaries right, a wolf will leave the pack to give birth and introduce the cubs to the pack once she feels ready for it. And maternity leave is flexible but often around 6 months so they’re going “YOU WERE GONE FOREVER! WE WERE SO WORRIED! WHERE ARE THE CUBS?? WE HAVE TO GREET THE CUBS!!“

Also the two on her back are fighting over who gets to greet her first. Giving and receiving attention is a commodity that goes by hierarchy and if you don’t accept that there will be scuffles.. The wolf lying down next to her isn’t chill about her coming back, it’s just submissive to the other wolves and waiting for it’s turn to show excitement.

Now I can see why we domesticated these adorable jerks.

flashback to when MLK Jr said the worst group in the US for black rights wasn't the lawmakers passing Jim Crow laws or the KKK but the white moderate. That it was the white moderate who was forcing the country to find a middle ground between civil rights and genocide which allowed the continued systematic mistreatment of the African American community

Favorite part of seeing a new doctor: when they ask about birth control

Doctor: Sexually active?

Me: I'm over 35 and have a toddler, so we'll say yes but it's really more of an aspirational thing.

D: Hormonal birth control?

M: No.

D: Are you trying to get pregnant?

M: Ha, no, once was more than enough.

D: Barrier method?

M: Just the aforementioned toddler, so no.

D: If you don't want to get pregnant, you really should be using some form of birth control.

M: Oh, I am. I find that the absence of fallopian tubes is extremely effective.

D: o___o checks my record Oh. Right.

M: >:-}

my favourite story is when my doctor was like she was in her third trimester, pregnant. I'd been seeing her for several years by that point. When i first started seeing her I was IDing as a guy.

"Is there any chance you could be pregnant?" ". . . No?" "When was your last period?" ". . . . . . Never?" She puts down her clipboard for a second and looks at me confused.

"Sarah, I'm trans, you knew me before I came out . . ."

"oh my god"

She held her head in her hands in embarrassment and disbelief that she'd forgotten and then blamed it on the memory issues that some people get when pregnant but I guess that also means that I was passing so that's nice lmao

That is amazing. I love your semi-himbo doctor.

My GYN office still asks me when my last period was every time I go in.

The same GYN office that did my hysterectomy a few years ago.

Truly incredible continuity of care.

Image description: Tumblr post tag "#guys cmon the doctors are asking these question like a hundred times a week"

Yes. Yes they are. And that's kind of the problem. They're on auto-pilot, talking and treating what they expect to see and not the patient actually in front of them. I put a humorous spin on it because I choose to laugh at the absurdity, but I'm honestly really annoyed that something as simple and routine as checking my medical record for recent surgeries is apparently beyond the capacity of the person who is supposed to be helping me figure out why my body is doing THAT.

If a doctor, especially a GYN, doesn't notice that my record says "C-section with bilateral salpingectomy," they're going to make some assumptions that could negatively impact quality and appropriateness of care. If I have abdominal pain, it is not going to be because of a twisted fallopian tube, for example. It may be from adhesions formed during the healing process from the C-section. That happened to my mother! That's also in my record! Because it could be relevant and important for my medical care team to know.

As an engineer, if I approach every problem with the same set of questions, that may work fine for 70% of the work in front of me. But I'd be a really bad engineer if I couldn't recognize that remaining 30% and respond appropriately.

listening to fleetwood mac is like. i don’t know this song but let’s give it a shot. oh wait i do know this song. i’ve heard it a million times and always liked it, i just didn’t know the name. on some level i kind of assumed that song was just an ambient part of the world the way the sound of the wind or birdsong in the trees was but apparently it’s by fleetwood mac. neat.

“we’re supposed to support each other“

you go first, try supporting physically disabled people for once and maybe we’ll feel up for supporting you.

i am so incredibly tired of ablebodied people accusing physdis people of being not caring, selfish, mean and generally bad. being ND does not make you immune to being ableist.

Also I've literally never seen a cripple who has zero pro nd posts. Because most of us are nds. While I have seens dozens of nd only blogs.

It is VERY VERY telling that they are allowed to have ADHD/depression/autism/BPD-only themed blogs and nobody ever cares but the second my post about MY spinal cord injury my notes are inundated with “YOU EXCLUSIONIST PIECE OF SHIT!!!!! YOU JUST HATE MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE!!!! YOU HATE AUTISTICS!!!! THIS POST IS LATERAL AGGRESSION AGAINST NDS!!!!” and I’m literally just talking about a door lip and it has nothing to do with them

I was just ND with a little hearing loss for many years.

In the past 5 years, my previously un-diagnosed connective tissue disorder has progressed to the point of physical disability.

Being physically disabled is a whole different world and deserves its own damn spaces. No one cared when I was having an off mental health day before, but god forbid if I can’t walk around the store on a bad physical health day.
