Can you understand? Someone, somewhere, can you understand me a little, love me a little? For all my despair, for all my ideals, for all that — I love life. But it is hard, and I have so much – so very much to learn.

Do you know any other social media platforms or sites where i can find some good River Phoenix stuff? Your blog is amazing, btw

Thanks! On Twitter there’s a bunch of fan accounts if you just search his name (riverjudes, judesglasses and riveridho are some pretty active ones). And the only kind of update account on there is phoenixsgallery who has a website of pretty much every photo of River. On Instagram is where the most fan pages exist. Again just type in his name and a heap will show up. Some post stories/quotes etc.

For actual websites- aleka.org is where most of his interviews are (under the ‘press’ tab) and myriverphoenixcollection.com has easy access to a lot of photos. Also river-phoenix.org. They’re the og fan pages lol

“River was one of those people that had that strange magic glow around them; he could drive you crazy, or make you fall in love with him, sometimes in the same minute” — Ethan Hawke

“He was incredibly honest - one minute I’d want to club him because he was driving me crazy, and then he’d say something that was out of there. I’d be like ‘I have to go to my room now and recover from that statement’” — Sandra Bullock

Hi! I was wondering if you know what books River liked and maybe what kind of music he listened to, like what bands or artists. I'm sorry if you answered this already. Also i want you to know that i love your blog and i love your work! Thank you, have a great day!

Thanks! I’ve answered the music question in detail here and as for books, here’s an excerpt from a 1988 article:

“The novels he’s read, or would like to read, are those that kids grew up on 15 and 20 years ago: Catcher in the Rye and Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger, Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha, Richard Bach’s Illusions, Ray Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.”

He also loved Diet for a New America which was like the og vegan book. One of the reasons he appeared on Donahue was because he loved that book and wanted to promote it’s message alongside the author. There’s James Gleick’s Chaos, Tolstoy’s War and Peace, Money into Light by John Boorman, The Prophet by Khalil Gibran, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, The Basketball Diaries [he also wanted to star in the film adaptation] and John Rechy’s City of Night [which he read to prep for Idaho]. He was also obsessed with Time of the Assassins - I’ve made a post before about Rivers relationship with the book
