The very late gift for the VLD Ship Exchange

I have a lot of reasons why this didn’t come out until today, the primary reason being that I had to do most of the work on a group project that hit me like a freight train. So the negative is that its a little delayed, but the positive is that because I was working for longer and in short increments, it turned out to be actually very long… so, I think that about evens things up?

Anyway,

I had a lot of fun writing this. Not so much on the group project.

  Shiro couldn’t remember the last time he had been to a wedding in his life. He was just always so busy, and to be totally transparent, he just didn’t know that many people that were getting married. Most of his close knit friend group were in long term relationships, not ready to marry yet, or single and liked it that way. Truthfully Shiro wasn’t upset by the lack of weddings in his life, they were always such big ordeals and he lived a pretty quiet life these days. He couldn’t work from home forever though, and a coworker he collaborated with had invited him and insisted he come and get out of his shell. 

Shiro had simply been too polite to refuse.

Keith was a pretty decent guy, if somewhat quiet. Then again, Shiro wasn’t exactly much of a talker either  in their current situation. They hadn’t spoken much, only when their friends all went to the bar together and both of them were dragged along. Shiro hadn’t realized that they’d never touched before. Matt stood to the side, wiping tears from his eyes as he laughed hysterically.

“I hate you forever, Matt,” Shiro sighed, tipping his head back to look at the clouds.

Matt took another moment to calm down before giving Shiro a shit-eating grin. “Maybe if you’d just had better balance, you could’ve avoided this. See you later!”

“Matt, come back he—Matt!” Shiro cursed, taking a step back. Keith stumbled forward, dragged forward by the force of Shiro’s movements.

Summary: Lance loved the beach. The way that the waves would rise and fall against the sand, the sun kissing the infinite body of water that stretched onwards as it set, and the way that the stars would slowly start showing up in the sky like freckles. He loved the feeling of lightness as he pressed on through the waves on his board to simply feel the mist of saltwater on his face. He rose and fell with the pulse of the waves, and he could easily say that there was little else that made him happier.

That is, of course, until Hunk moved to Varadero beach.

Keith’s first memory was of watching a shuttle launch as he sat with his father on the front porch of their house. It had been a hot day, but he’d abandoned the shade to run out over the rocks and watch the shuttle disappear. With the clear blue sky, he could see it soar upwards for an eternity. His dad had told him that was the moment he had decided to become a pilot.

His dad also told Keith that he was born to do something amazing, but he hadn’t stuck around to find out so Keith never believed him.

When he dreamed of going to space, he had imagined a cramped shuttle shared with two or three others, heading off to some unexplored area of their solar system. He never imagined he would be flying alien ships in the front lines of a universal war.

Which they won.

And so they went home.
