i don't understand why, if there's a short story that the theme is calling back to, these celebs and designers aren't getting in there and picking it apart and really SPEAKING TO it...it's so fucking lazy. it shows a lack of care and finesse. it's embarrassing. You're meant to be masters of your craft, visionaries, and you can't even do your fucking homework?

Honestly, my advice would be to focus your search in queens and brooklyn! I don't live in the city anymore because the cost is just too insane, but was recently looking at some places in brighton beach that were relatively reasonable. (the place i live in now on LI is bigger and i didn't want to give up all my furniture lol). Most of my friends live in brooklyn, long island city, etc.

USE YOUR NETWORK. Speaking from the publishing perspective, a lot of assistants end up living together, finding one another on linkedin, discords, and organizations. This was also the case for grad school (though that was in Boston)--once people joined the facebook groups and discords/slacks, people were finding roommates.

Depending on your school, they might offer grad school housing options, or even have people who work at the school who might be able to help you out. Rent controlled places are really hard to come by unless you know someone.

Lastly, the housing lottery! Just be careful of the neighborhoods.
