Writing Prompt 32: “Go back to sleep, (term of endearment).”
Azriel awoke, his eyes opening wide and bright. Not sure what had awoken him. Whether it is a bad dream on just his usual insomnia. He didn’t know. All he knew was the woman that lay in the bed beside him was not his usual bed partner. Usually, he slept alone. Trying to block out the sounds of his brothers and the distant sounds of their lovemaking. But tonight, he wasn’t alone. He looked down to the woman asleep in his arms. He had her wrapped up so tight, his whole body enveloped her. His arms tight, her legs tangled with his. Their bodies still naked from the events of a few hours ago when they were so soaked with sweat they both fell into the covers of the bed. What had felt like years of pining had turned into epic sex, kisses and declaring of love.
He had always cared about Elain. Ever since the first moment, he saw her. She was so welcoming in her house when she was a human. But he saw the ring on her finger. He didn’t let sadness spread to his face. When she was turned by the cauldron she became even more beautiful. He didn’t even know that was possible. He was the one that helped her into the new life she never wanted. He provided her with comfort and friendship. He would listen to her talking non-stop about plants. He sat with her as she showed him her drawings and plans for the townhouse garden. She was so pure and soft. He never thought she would ever feel the same way. But she did. And after years of waiting, he finally got to claim her. With her mate downstairs, he knew it was wrong. Rhys had warned him off. Not wanting to start a war. Azriel tried to stay away. He looked somewhere else. But he always ended up back with Elain. Trying to be her friend. But last night. It all changed. They made their way to each other, both not wanting to wait any longer.
It was a simple, short kiss that Elain pressed onto Azriel’s lips that started it. It lasted less than a second. But when he looked into her eyes he saw everything he wanted. He wasn’t going to dismiss this a second time. He would deal with the consequences later. So he kissed her back. This time the kiss was longer. Harder. A kiss that lead them to her bedroom together, locking the door and making love for the first time together.
Maybe it was fear that woke him up. When Rhys finds out, Azriel knows he’ll have hell to pay. But he didn’t care. All he cared about was this beautiful, strong and kind woman in his arms. He squeezed her tighter and let his face fall into the crook of her neck. Breathing her in.
“Go back to sleep.” Elain’s soft voice said frightening Azriel.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.” He replied.
Elain moved in the bed. Azriel’s arms moving from her body where they were still wrapped. She turned to face him. Both on their sides staring at each other.
Elain didn’t say anything. She placed one hand on his chest, and with her other hand, she lifted her index finger to his lips. Running them over the plump pink. Azriel kisses her finger before she moved her hand up to his face and into his hair.
“Do you regret it? What we did?” Her voice was quiet. A look of worry and concern on her face.
Now Azriel was scared. “No, no. Of course, I don’t.” He said quickly in a rush. “Do …. Do you?”
Elain shook her head. “No.” She ran her fingers through his hair. “I don’t want you to worry. Please don’t worry.”
She shook her head again. “We’ll figure it out.” She moved closer to him. Hooking a leg over his hip.
Azriel was scared. He was scared that tonight was just a one-time thing. He was scared of what Rhys would say when he finds out. And Lucian. He has every right to kill him.
“Go back to sleep.” She said again moving her hand to his hip so she could snuggle closer.
Azriel’s face moved back to her neck. His eyes closed. He snuggled into her. Wrapping her up in his arms he would enjoy this moment. He had Elain. In his arms. Her body covered in his scent and love marks from his mouth. He would enjoy this moment.
“I love you.” He whispered ever so softly.
“I love you too.” She replied as they both slowly drifted back to sleep. In each other’s arms.
