“Atsushi, are you hiding here?” He could have merely summoned him, Seimei is fully aware, with a mere word and so little effort expended, but on days such as this, when Heian-kyo remains truly peaceful and his only reasons to see his shikigami are casual, he sees no reason to rush things.
He wanders along the engawa, peering out from tree to tree in the event that the fox has taken refuge somewhere in the shade. “Will you come out, Atsushi? I do promise that I am not here to berate you, if that is somehow your concern.”
“Hidin’? Aught I t’ be hidin’ master? Ain’t done somethin’ wrong, have I?” Asked the fox. He was sitting under the shade of one of the trees by the river, with a sake gourd and without his armour on. His top was worn loosely, since it was a too warm day for so early in the spring, if he did say so himself.
He was taking it easy. He’d been working hard lately and things were finally peaceful, so he’d decided to take a moment to himself to enjoy the quiet. “Should I pour ya a glass, Seimei-sama?” he offered, lifting the wine gourd. “There’s enough here for us both.”
