“Atsushi, are you hiding here?” He could have merely summoned him, Seimei is fully aware, with a mere word and so little effort expended, but on days such as this, when Heian-kyo remains truly peaceful and his only reasons to see his shikigami are casual, he sees no reason to rush things.

He wanders along the engawa, peering out from tree to tree in the event that the fox has taken refuge somewhere in the shade. “Will you come out, Atsushi? I do promise that I am not here to berate you, if that is somehow your concern.”

Image

“Hidin’? Aught I t’ be hidin’ master? Ain’t done somethin’ wrong, have I?” Asked the fox. He was sitting under the shade of one of the trees by the river, with a sake gourd and without his armour on. His top was worn loosely, since it was a too warm day for so early in the spring, if he did say so himself.

He was taking it easy. He’d been working hard lately and things were finally peaceful, so he’d decided to take a moment to himself to enjoy the quiet. “Should I pour ya a glass, Seimei-sama?” he offered, lifting the wine gourd. “There’s enough here for us both.”

startled did not begin to describe the emotion as he laid his hands upon her so. so rare was it that he touched her so suddenly without warning, especially so violently. the only time she could recall were those when he would force feed her. a possibility she had been somewhat prepared for. THIS, however, was new.
never before had he attempted to confront her. to force her to speak her mind.
her gaze was fixed upon his, unable to turn away from his blazing determination. his fingers digging lightly into the skin beneath her dress.
❛ atsu…shi …?
ah, she was certainly hopeless now. her heart hammering in her chest at the mere angry display.

“Please....I--” the tears started to fall silently down his cheeks, he never cried, let alone loudly.

“I can’t watch you do this to yourself again! I can’t see you suffering like this! You know...how much it hurts me to make you eat, and the only reason...I can BRING myself to DO that is because I can’t see you suffer! I can’t let you die, dammit! H-how am I supposed...to live without you now, huh?!” he demanded.

“We’ve been together...for two and a half thousand years...What the hell am I gonna do without you, Xie!? Y-you can’t just...leave me...like everyone else has!! You promised!! We swore to each other we wouldn’t have to be alone anymore! Never again, remember!?”

“So please...”

“--DON’T LEAVE ME!”

"—you're still here." to his credit, he doesn't sound nearly as disgusted as the exaggeration of his expression would imply. as a matter of fact, youko hasn't once met the other fox's gaze at all since approaching him. "ugh, i guess i can't be surprised, you've never not been persistent."

“You could at least try to not sound like I’d killed Yasunori-sama’s dog or something,” he said dryly, not looking up at him for long moments as he continued to sharpen his wakizashi. Slow, slow strokes, honing the edge once more to razor perfection after so many battles.

Image

He looked up at him after a moment. “I’m almost surprised you’re back...I thought maybe something had happened to you. Disappearing suddenly without word to Yasunori-sama seemed...odd, though, perhaps it’s simply that I would not have done the same to Seimei-goshujinsama...”

Image

“But Yasunori-sama said not to worry, you’d be back...He was sure of it. I wondered if maybe it was simple deluded hope you weren’t dead or worse. But here you are, just as he said.”

Image

His eyes turned back to the blade. “I was, despite his reassurances, worried.”

❛ in that, you are correct. ❜
her voice rang soft, as if not to break her wallowing thoughts. she glances at him, &&. oh what mistake it was to meet those earnest eyes of his. that frantic gaze, searching for any way to make her see reason. the distress was a vice upon her chest.
❛ such a disappointing wife I have become … disobeying my husband’s concern to drown in my selfish desires. ❜
she leans to her left side, laying upon the wooden porch in a curled position. what a sight she must be, her hair becoming disheveled in the autumn breeze.
❛ it is still no, atsushi. I’m not hungry … ❜
Image

“Don’t lie to me! You know I’m not just going to let you starve to death right in front of me you idiot!”

He finally snapped. He couldn’t watch her like this anymore. “What the hell is wrong with you!? Didn’t I swear that all those years ago after he died!? Snap out of it!”

He knelt down and grabbed him by the shoulders and pulled her up, giving her a hard shake as if that could snap her out of it somehow. “How am I supposed to just watch you waste away, huh?! After all these years, you think I live with myself if I--”

He grit his teeth in a snarl and took a deep breath.

“If I ever let you come to harm or get hurt, do you really think I could live with that?!”

Gilgamesh could not be prouder of his beloved for making a friend. He had always wanted to teach her how to live her life to the fullest and to not do so alone. They may have lost their war, but to see her still living her life alongside someone she cared about was the best thing he could have hoped for. And he hoped that they would grow alongside one another for many long years.

no …

she is listless again. her words as absent as the gaze which falls upon the horizon off the porch of their home. her complexion pale, the luster fading from her hair. she cannot recall the last time she has fed. from him, from anyone. blessed be her husband for allowing her flirtations to continue for the sake of her meals. assuming she were feeding …

when was the last time she had allowed herself to fall to sloth ? to feel the precipice of mortality within her flesh, starvation beating at her bones.

it was only when she was lingering, thoughts captivated by burdens that she became as such. in all their years, she had never learned yet to speak the truth of her woes unto him. a fault she is sure was her own. she who refused to speak as she gazed at the rising waters beneath the bridge, she who could not bear to speak the name of her former master. &&. again she could not speak to him.

she could not tell him what weight she now carried. only to refuse his insistence that sink her fangs into his flesh, or drank the life from his lips. no, not this time. she could not bear to do it with the thought which rested on her mind.

not when she could not even speak to him.

not when she could not even confess that she loved him.

she could recall the beginning. how their marriage had made her wept with the joy of their union. how the prospect of not being so alone, consumed her whole. how originally this had been for companionship, to watch after one another. like a contract. or perhaps a game of house to pass the time.

it was a game no more.

&&. she could not begin to tell him.

“You’re being ridiculous.”

Image

“Yasunori-sama wouldn’t want this, you know that!” he told her almost scoldingly.

Yes, they had not married for love. It was a game, another mask for them to wear, to help them blend in with the humans, to keep them safe. They were that gorgeous flawless couple that everyone envied, how in love they were, in the eyes of all other. Their act had been so perfect...

So perfect that at some point, after these hundreds of years...he fell in love with her. It stopped being an act. But how could he tell her that?! He knew she still held her former husband and her former Master in her heart above all, there was surely no place for him in it!

Lillith let her friend go and grinned, trying not to flinch too much from the tenderness of her freshly healed scars. “I tried to come in as soon as I could, teacher ragged me for leaving so soon!” short stay meaning two years and eleven months but you know. “God don’t make it sound like I was dying, I enjoyed getting away from the noble life I was stuffed into. Mum would have shrieked knowing what happened.” bless her parents souls, they left her with everything yet it was not going to get her to her end goal in life at this point. She grabbed Atsu’s stuff, clearly more obvious the mage had increase muscle mass as her arms were thicker than before she left. Lillith used to be a twig, and a ragged one at that. Living in the roughs made her strong and fit, better suited for her position and protecting herself from further harm. “But if you’re treating, I gotta get some red meat in me, they fed me the most dried piece of meat I’ve ever seen or had!” luckily her teacher gave her nicely preserved meat! Making it out to the car, Lillith tucked her hand quicking into her shirt to check on the bandages as if she was checking for her wallet. “Besides that here seems calmer than normal. I presume no one died while I was gone.” or failed. The substitute had extreme notes on how to do her class. Heading back to work is going to be weird. She might need another weak off to make sure everything healed and her body has settled back into the natural rhythms. If anything were to upset the already disrupted balance, she might be sick. “Also you gotta tell me about that one hero, he was listed alot in Ireland and lots of the folks loved him. Teacher included, I know of Goldie but that’s about it.” she was being gentle, she knew how much Gilgamesh meant to her. By this time, Lillith had her share of lost after burying her second husband, Ireland was her break from reality.
Image

“Cu Chulainn?” she asked, plopping into the back of the town car with a distinct comfortable lack of her usual grace. “Gilgamesh seemed to care a lot for that dog of Ulster. It was cute...He respected him, which is something rare. In myth he was the child of Lugh, the god Light. A brilliant and tragic hero...So terribly tragic. He was astoundingly fast. . . He could dodge even the Gate of Babylon! That’s something I will never forget.”

Image

“Ah, being behind him in those moments, those clashes! It was thrilling and terrifying. I would not ever wish another to have to know the fear of watching two Top Servants in such ferocious battle...It was as if the sheer magnitude of the power could swallow you whole, crush you, and leave you dead.”

Image

“Ah, but I’ve forgotten myself in such reminiscence!” She reached into a cooler to pull out a bottle of sauvignon blanc and poured two glasses for them. “You are in need of spoiling, are you not? And don’t worry, nothing catastrophic has happened! Sensei is still as much of a hardass as ever, and as much a slave driver, so you know the world hasn’t ended just yet!” she joked of Waver, her (rather beloved) long time professor.

The airport was dingy, cold, She was back in England alright after her short stay in Ireland. There was a long wait and she could walk back to the tower but then there’s the chance again of her being stabbed. Boy wouldn’t that be a newspaper scandal. @pinksaltfreckles

Oh, she would never tire of that feeling. No, never. Her beloved friend’s embrace was wonderful. She was the first person she had allowed to touch her after Gilgamesh died, and it had been years since her last actual human contact the first time she had felt it. She always squeezed her far too tight, her frail bones and butterfly-wing-like skin always protesting the strain, but she never would, no.

image

“Ah!” It hurts of course, yet, she does not want her to let go. “It’s not like that, Riri! I swear!” she said, snaking pale arms around the so starkly flame haired (in comparison) Magus to hug her as tightly as her frail, weak body would allow. “I knew you were getting in, so I had to come get you! In style of course! I have a town car waiting to take us back to my flat...”

image

“If rumours were to be believed, I heard you were really roughing it out there! Like a real druid or some nonsense. So of course I’ve got to make sure you’re living in the lap of luxury as long as you’re here! The finest teas and champagnes, the BEST food in London, and plushest blankets I have!”

While he would have much rather stayed behind and passed out candy from the comfort of his home, the professor found himself awkwardly standing on the street corner, donning a vampire costume whilst waiting for the lights to change. "I have a vague feeling this is Rider's idea," he mentioned, glancing down to Atsuko, "Or perhaps it was yours that we go out on Halloween?"

Avatar
Image

“It was my idea of course!” she said. She was dressed as a ghost bride, complete with make up to make her pale skin seem even more ghostly. She’d of course made the ragged wedding gown herself, complete with gausey layers of blue and grey to make it look more spectral. “But Rider vehemently agreed that we should go out!” Of course he did, if there was a party to be had, Rider wanted to be there. “Halloween is a night for magic and spooks, so mages and heroic spirits should revel thusly!!”
