When they were in junior high, Rayla’s uncle, Runaan, and Callum’s stepdad, Harrow, both tragically died in a car accident. The event rocked both of their lives, but in it, Callum and Rayla found each other. Through court battles, lawsuits, and plenty of tears, Callum, Ezran, and Rayla worked together to help their families come to an understanding. Despite the grief, it almost felt like a happy ending.

But then, in the middle of their freshman year of high school, Rayla disappears.

It’s been over two years since Callum’s last seen her. Over two years since she’d run away from the home they made together. Since then, sophomore and junior year of high school left him jaded. He shouldn’t be surprised he found out she was back through the rumor mill. Why would she have told him herself? Still, being just as shocked as any other student at this school when she’d shown up the first day of senior year was… shitty. Just a few hours in and his school year was already off to a great start.

To make it even worse? They’ve been paired together for their senior project.

She’d said nothing more than a weak ‘hey’ since she awkwardly sat down at the desk next to him. When she spoke next, he almost didn’t recognize her voice. It had been so long since he’d last heard it. “So… how should we…?” He hated how much he missed it. “I don’t care. I’ll do some research tonight and throw some sources into the google doc,” he answered, refusing to look at her. He busied himself by shoving his notebook into his backpack. “What should I do?” she asked, this time her voice sounded annoyed. She was annoyed? He felt indignation rise to the surface, but he stuffed it down. He didn’t want to give her the pleasure of seeing him angry. “I dunno, figure it out. You can…” he shrugged, swinging his backpack over his shoulder as he stood up. “Just take whatever else is left.”

Okay so. I’ve been trying to improve my writing… and the personal stuff I’ve been working on for the past year is fun but I need a break. That break has turned into a minor hyper-fixation of this concept.

To be honest, I won’t post anything unless I finish it. But I might do a small 3-5 chapter thing for this… probably 3-5k words each? Idk… stay tuned.

Hi! I JUST discovered and got into your AJTTP fic and I absolutely DEVOURED every chapter, I'm in love!

I noticed that it hasn't been updated in a while, and while I know some fic authors hate to have this asked, I was wondering if you'd ever see yourself going back to it someday?

Thanks, I’m so glad you’ve liked it ♥️ It’s been a really fun story to work on!! And hearing things like this help me stay motivated—not a bother at all.

I’ll definitely update it someday again, and I’m at a really exciting point so it’s not for lack of wanting. Just been busy with living!

I will say, season 5 really inspired me, though. I just finished watching it through and I enjoyed the new season :)

LISTEN VERSE 2 OF “FOOLISH ONE” BY TAYLOR SWIFT????? S5 RAYLLUM??

You know how to keep me waitin' I know how to act like I'm fine Don't know what to call this situation But I know I can't call you mine And it's delicate, but I will do my best to seem bulletproof 'Cause when my head is on your shoulder It starts thinkin' you'll come around And maybe, someday, when we're older This is something we'll laugh about

Huh, I actually once thought about a Pilot Rayllum AU though I've always imagined Callum being the pilot since his heads is always in the clouds and a nod to him doing sky magic

You know I thought about that too… but I think what makes Callum’s character Callum is that he forged his own connection. And to draw a more direct line between the wind rising’s main character Jiro, who couldn’t ever fly bc he had poor eyesight, he made his own connection to aircrafts by designing them.

Similarly, I’d like to think Callum “forges” his own connection to aircrafts by designing them as well. Plus he likes to draw, and is naturally curious. Whereas Rayla’s instinct might make her a better pilot by nature.
