The SSI Restoration Act of 2021 is currently proposed to congress. SSI is a type of disability payment for disabled Americans. The bill will increase the SSI payment to the poverty level (right now the maximum payment is 9528$ a year). It will allow disabled people on SSI to marry and not lose their income. It will increase the asset and income caps for SSI among other improvements.

Friends and I made a website that has all of this info plus a REALLY easy way to send an email to your state reps. If you click the link below and click send email, you can send a letter of support for the SSI Restoration Act to your state reps. It’s already written and takes only a few minutes. Seriously it is ridiculously easy. These emails have more pull to reps than resistbot so please fill out if you can!

We also have a Facebook page called “Campaign to Fix SSI” that has this information and regular updates. Here’s the link for that.

Please do this and boost! It could change the lives of millions of disabled Americans.

This got a big boost in reblogs/likes the last day or two. We are up to over 500 letters sent! Please keep boosting and if you are in the US and able to, actually do the letter campaign. We got 3 new cosponsors on the bill this week alone and will only get more if you contact your representatives.

Masks off everyone—Stray Kids’ newest mini-album ODDINARY is finally out and it’s time to embrace the maniac within. To celebrate the new release and their upcoming fourth anniversary, we caught up with the group to talk about their new album and single, MANIAC, and the challenges and fulfillment that come with accepting your most authentic self. As a little bonus, we also asked the members to design their own Tumblr blogs (just in case you needed some inspiration). Check out our full interview below!

Tell us about your new mini-album ODDINARY in three words or less, but there’s a catch—you can’t use the words odd or ordinary. 

Bang Chan: MANIACS ARE BACK!

Lee Know: Cool.

Changbin: Inner side, volcano, control.

Hyunjin: Super Power song.

HAN: Abnormal, freaky, potential are the three words that I think describe it best. We tried to describe the energy that explodes from our music in a different way this time, by slowly showing control over this energy. 

Felix: Maniac, unique, and dark.

Seungmin: Interesting, fascinating, capturing hearts.

I.N: Mania, abnormal, conceptual. 

Stray Kids’ music and concepts often encourage young people to be their most authentic selves regardless of other people’s opinions. How does ODDINARY fit into that narrative, and what do you hope your fans take away from it? 

Bang Chan: This might not apply to everyone, but I feel like many people have experienced moments where they’re told to act normal (yep, I’ve been through that). We wanted to emphasize that “standards” don’t matter and that you have the authority to let out the “oddness” that’s been sealed inside you all this time.

Changbin: ODDINARY is a compound word that combines “ordinary” and “odd,” meaning that everyone has a normal and slightly weird side. Listeners will be able to experience the everlasting honesty and truthfulness that Stray Kids’ music has always displayed, with the more crazy side that Stray Kids have. 

HAN: I hope that STAY and all listeners will be able to follow their hearts, rather than being confined by the judgment of others. I hope everyone also looks forward to the upgraded version of us. 

Seungmin: Whatever situation may come, I hope that everyone is able to live in their most honest, unique way with versatility while never forgetting who they truly are. I hope our music can become a small strength.

Bang Chan: Ooft… it’s hard to pick just one because my preferred aesthetics change depending on my mood. But if I had to pick one, it would be cyberpunk. The lights got me, and I’m a fanatic for futuristic stuff.

IMPORTANT PSA

Dear friends,

As many of you know, I live in Kyiv, which is the capital of Ukraine.

8 years ago, my country was invaded by Russia. They annexed part of our territory and have been de-facto controlling another part. Thousands of people have been killed. Around 1,5 million became internally displaced - i.e. had to flee their homes to other parts of Ukraine.

For all these 8 years, other countries have mostly led the policy of appeasement. Turning the blind eye to these actions, sometimes pressuring Ukraine to keep quiet and not disrupt their comfort.

Now they have gathered an unprecedented military force along its and Belarus's border with Ukraine. They are threatening a full scale outright invasion. In case with Russia, that usually includes deliberate strikes on civilian targets as well. They want to have their "sphere of influence" in Eastern Europe and do not tolerate our real sovereignty and democracy. It is caused by russian fascist imperialism and nothing else, no matter what "arguments" they come up with to excuse their actions.

The situation is getting increasingly more and more dire every hour.

I have receieved a few messages offering some kind of help. I ask, urge you all to spread the awareness of what is happening. Look into ways to pressure your governments into sanctioning russia/its oligarchs, officials and those close to them. THIS is what is needed the most. This is what can potentially save millions of lives.

I adopted Ares seven years ago. He’s a former stray cat rescued at the age of 2 y.o. (approximately) in 2014. When I found him, he was in a very bad condition, full of scratches, back covered in scabies. Back then I was a broke undergrad student, but I didn’t hesitate to rescue him. We went through some major issues to improve his health, but we made it in the end. He’s diabetic, but the disease is controlled. He’s being my best friend since then.

After a few years and many other cats joining our family, Ares started to have some gastrointestinal issues around September/October 2021. I had a new litter of cats to take care of and we also had to change the brand of our cat’s dry food at the same time. Major changes for an elderly cat. His poop started to change its consistency, which I attributed to the stress of having new feline siblings + new food. I took him to the vet in late October and after a blood test, the diagnosis was stress. They prescribed rest and probiotics. It worked, but not for long.

Ares had to pay other visits to the vet in November. More blood tests, stool tests. More probiotics, antibiotics, and vermifuges. Until then, all the results pointed to food allergy. In late December, he had an outbreak of severe diarrhea, and then a veterinarian asked for a FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) test. Ares was tested in 2016 for a bus trip, and the results came out negative for both diseases, but this time he tested positive for FIV, which is the feline equivalent to HIV. Since adoption, Ares (and his siblings) have been indoor cats. We don’t know what happened, the vet’s hypothesis is that the 2016 result was a false negative one.

Having 9 years of age and FIV makes him a very fragile cat. A few days ago, he was submitted to an ultrasound procedure and the results came out inconclusive: he either has a 1) feline low-grade alimentary lymphoma (LGAL) or 2) feline inflammatory bowel disease (IDB). Both diseases are radically different, which means the respective treatments are very specific. We need to know what he has ASAP to give him the better vet care available, and as the vet suspects of a lymphoma, time is against us.

So, the last resource to discover what exactly he has is by submitting him to a biopsy. We need a sample of his intestine cells to tell if he has cancer or if his intestines are undergoing an allergic reaction. The whole procedure costs around 1.405,00 (one thousand four hundred and five) brazilian reais (approximately 246 US dollars or 218 euros) and represents my income of nearly one month and a half (brazilian currency doesn’t value this much, as you can see). It also represents almost the sum of the past 3 months of veterinary care, including medication, vet appointments, special cat food. I have already compromised my income until March, and my working contract ends in April. I’m looking for new jobs, but the Brazilian economy is currently not very promising, and even the freelance stuff I find is not enough to get all this money in this short period of time.

This price includes: Preoperative vet appointment, laparotomy, anesthesia by inhalation, biopsy (the analysis of the intestinal tissue sample), blood tests. He might need two days of hospitalization, but this price doesn’t include it. The vet clinic is the safest one I’ve found in my area, which is important considering his age, the fact he’s slightly anemic and immunosuppressed due to feline aids. I already have 50% of this sum due to donations.

I’m normally too proud to ask for help to take care of any of my cats, because they’re my responsibility alone, but this time the sum of money I need to spend is just too much all at once. It would’ve been already too much in normal circumstances, but on the verge of unemployment, it’s just too much for me to handle all alone. Regardless of his diagnosis, I’ll find a way to guarantee he’ll have the appropriate treatment, but for the biopsy I don’t have the time in my favor. I don’t have the time to think about ways to get this money and go job hunting, it’s just too much money for just one exam and a procedure that has to be done ASAP.

Please help a transmasc nonbinary guy struggling financially

I’ve been trying not to have to do this but I’m about to be $300 negative in my bank account and am currently unemployed. I’m trying to get myself to a place where I can be able to afford my testosterone that I’ll need to fill in 2 weeks and my other meds that I’m gonna need to fill this week.

I live with my parents at 31 for a variety of reasons and while they do let me live here, they’re not financially able to help with this and even if they were, they don’t know my money situation because if I told them it would not go well for me. They are emotionally abusive and controlling even at my age and constantly belittle and start fights with me.

I’m working toward being able to move out ASAP once I get a new job but as of right now all I’m thinking about is not having a hugely negative balance and being unable to buy meds and get my t levels checked this month. On top of that if my mom asks for money she’ll find out I’m way past broke due to my college loans not being deferred like the company was supposed to. She already made me write a check to them when she saw the bill instead of trying to resolve it without doing that. If she finds out my situation because she doesn’t accept boundaries, things will blow up. And because this is my only option for living somewhere right now I have a lot less control than I wish I had.
