people actually get so used to benevolent weirdness in their towns like. if you started wearing a dracula cape everywhere in my town, everyone would just come to accept it.

this post is so blessed bc all of the notes are just people talking about the benevolent weirdos in their towns and I hope they’re all having a good day out there, inspiring people to go out and wear their dracula capes or w/e
so today a public health official guy came into my class to give a lecture on disaster awareness and he was talking about house fires and mentioned that the reason people most likely die during a house fire is because they refuse to leave their pet inside or they go back to get their pet. and right when he said this my friend immediately turned his head and looked at me and in that moment I had the most complete and genuine acceptance take over my body. I would 100% in front of my family and Jesus himself walk straight back into some raging inferno that was once my house to go get my fat cat. I nodded back
the best part of this post is reading all the tags from animal people who would also go back to save their pets. like no hesitation. walk backwards from heaven straight back into hell. someone even said they would go back for their fish. amazing

If you feel conflicted and uncomfortable celebrating Canada day today, that is good. It means that you understand that reconciliation is more than just apologizing and moving on. That there is work that comes after the apology. Part of that work is confronting our true history, of sitting in a space of learning and understanding that is uncomfortable. Until there is an understanding of that history and the reverberations still felt today in our indigenous communities, meaningful reconciliation can’t take place. If you’re mad about people “spoiling the party” today, please take some time out to do some reading, there are many great articles circling on social media that can provide a start. The last 150 years (and more) have been shameful. Take some time to reflect on what the next 150 should look like and then begin the work to make it happen. Canada is a pretty great place to live, let’s make sure that’s the reality for everyone, not just those of us that benefit from colonialism. #Canada150+ #decolonialism #Ibenefitfromcolonialism
