Another long, trying day at his stepfather's company, but Kurama was finally making the trek back to his apartment. There wasn't anything to complain about, naturally; there was just something special about the cool breezes this time of year at dusk that attracted him. Then again, maybe it would attract most that found themselves behind a desk for most of the day, Kurama mused with a small smile.
It faded quickly as something grotesquely unattractive invaded his senses. Blood was something Kurama could handle, and the police sirens didn't phase him. Accidents happened all the time in the city and, quite frankly, it wasn't really any business of his.
The smell of a demon, however...
Lips thinned and pulled downward. A foul one at that; it was certainly another story. Kurama made haste to follow the scent before it cleared in the breezes. Since demons were able to come and go freely, running into one hadn't been all that uncommon. Things had been peaceful, really.
Still, some habits died hard.
And he couldn't have trouble on this side of town. Not when his mother resided there.
He rounded one last corner, screeching to a halt. It appeared someone else had found the creature first, and apparently not for the first time—given their interaction. Green eyes narrowed, assessing the battle before him rather than barging in.
This time, Kurama's habits would cost.
Before he could call out to warn her, the demon struck the stranger through her abdomen. Hardly moments after the slick sounds of pushing through flesh, and Kurama lunged forward producing a single red rose.
“Rose whip!” He yelled, taking the element of surprise and severing the creature's arm. Hopefully, this injury would be enough to buy them some time to analyze and heal her wounds, even if only marginally. Kurama made quick work of the hand and replaced it with his over her abdomen, concentrating his spirit energy to help heal as much of the damage as he could with the demon preoccupied with a missing limb.
“Are you all right? Can you stand?” His gaze continued to flicker between her and their common enemy.
They would not be able to catch him unawares now, and who knew what this foul demon's abilities would be.
