Jayce and Viktor gift art ~ that ending was phenomenal and I'm still thinking about it.

(Arcane Headcanon) Ever since S1 of Arcane, I thought we'd learn that Singed was the one who helped Viktor get into the Academy by passing along a personal recommendation on his behalf to Heimerdinger to help Viktor after he fled Singed's lab.

Since S2 is out now this falls firmly into the "headcanon" category rather than meta, but I'd like to think it's a plausible headcanon and perhaps explore what its implications could have been?

#this also makes the alleged backstory about Viktor's parents buying him the uniform#to smuggle him into the Academy actually make sense#if it was Singed who gave Viktor's parents the idea#(like i doubt that they have never met#a kid “officially” working in an illegal chem lab would be a pretty much normal situation in Zaun#but a kid secretly visiting a creepy man in a cave would still likely not)#Singed could send the recommendation letter straight to the Dean of the Academy#and say to Viktor's parents something like#“just find the kid a proper uniform and get him there no one checks anyway”#and of course it worked#but only because Heimerdinger knew about Viktor all along#and Viktor had no idea#also the parallel with Mel works so well - @allgidity

Precisely! And it plugs two sort-of plot holes with this bit of semi-canon for this "Viktor's parents stole a uniform to get him into the Academy" idea:

1 ) The notion that Viktor was able to 'sneak in' to the Academy using just a uniform. Piltover seems a pretty lawful society that is absolutely crawling with Enforcers, especially in the Academy area. It feels a bit self-contradictory that a society that relies so much on enforcing the rules and shows so much bigotry towards the undercity would somehow fail to take attendance and not notice there's a kid who doesn't belong here, especially since unfortunately Viktor's disability would make him stand out.

2 ) Viktor saying, "No one has ever believed in me." It's hard to square that with Amanda Overton's bit of semi-canon with the whole "parents stealing the uniform for Viktor" because... doesn't that indicate a fair amount of belief in him and his abilities if they would take that risk on his behalf to send him to the Academy? But if, overall, they were more skeptical and it was framed as sort of, "Just get the kid out of here, he'll sink or swim," because it was Singed's idea (unbeknownst to Viktor) then young Viktor might have felt more "pushed out" rather than "believed in" by his family sending him off to the Academy, and it allows them to still be rather skeptical themselves of Viktor rather than believing in im, since now they're not initiators of the idea.

Also I really like the notion that Viktor's parents knew about Singed to some extent. Like, that feels 100% like a thing that would go over a kid's head but that would actually happen behind the scenes to facilitate that whole weird setup. I do personally see Viktor's parents as exhausted and overworked Depression-era type parents who don't necessarily notice or care if their kid is off in a creepy cave so long as he's not underfoot, but since it is Zaun, the notion that they'd be ok with this specifically because he's working in a chem factory makes sense.And Singed making sure to tell Viktor's parents that he's working in a chem lab with him feels...correct to me, kinda like something Singed ie Corin Reveck would do, just by virtue of being the adult in the room (he may be a mad scientist but he's also a dad, arguably the dad-est dad to ever dad since his whole reason for existence is saving his child, so I do genuinely think there's still a part of him that would observe niceties like this for a gifted mind like Viktor, even if child Viktor has no idea the adults had this conversation).

Hope I managed to keep the rhythm of the scene though!
