Chanyeol - Creep (Analysis)

Hello guys!!! It’s been so long since I’ve posted something here and I’m sure you have been waiting for too long. Because of my exams and some health issues I wasn’t able to finish this analysis soon, for what I apologize once again TT

Anyways, here I am and we gonna talk about a beautiful song, called ‘’Creep’’. We all know Chanyeol made a cover of this song and I’m sure we all love it.

So here we gonna talk about exactly that song and I’m gonna explain why, somehow, I relate it to EXO’s ‘’Heaven’’, which, as we know, was written by Chanyeol.

Let’s start!

Originally ‘’Creep’’ is a song by the English alternative rock band Radiohead, released as their debut single in 1992; it appeared on their first album, Pablo Honey (1993).

According to Yorke, who wrote the song, “Creep” tells the tale of an inebriated man who tries to get the attention of a woman to whom he is attracted by following her around. In the end, he lacks the self-confidence to face her and feels he subconsciously is her.

Now let’s go to Chanyeol, lol. If you’re an old EXO-L, you probably know that Chanyeol sung this song several times. He sings it ever since the very 2013.

Let’s do some throwback.

Here I’m gonna try to prove you all it’s obviously related to Baekhyun since I’ve tried to prove he wrote ‘’Heaven’’ for Baekhyun as well, and these two songs are related lol.

Do you guys remember the first time Chanyeol sung the ‘’Creep’’?

We all have watched ‘’The EXO ShowTime’’.

Here is where we see Chanyeol singing the ‘’Creep’’.

This is something we’ve discussed only briefly before and to be completely honest, I didn’t notice anything when I watched this episode for the first time. But did you guys notice that when they were all getting ready to sleep, and Chanyeol was playing guitar, Baekhyun was lying on the futon and was playing a game on his phone or something.

Did you guys notice the intense look Chanyeol gave to Baekhyun, while singing the ‘‘Creep’‘?

He stared mostly during  “you float like a feather” part.

To make sure, let’s zoom because why not.

The quality of the pic is not really good but even in this quality you can see Chanyeol staring at Baekhyun.

We also have Jongdae, looking at Chanyeol and smiling.

If you watch the episode, you’ll see Jongdae glanced at Baekhyun and smiled to Chanyeol. It was a really short glance, but I had to talk abou it haha. 

These are the only clear seconds of him staring at Baekhyun, while singing. Maybe he stared at Baekhyun more but we can’t see that because we have Junmyeon and Sehun covering the whole view.

Back then, when I have watched this episode and noticed these all, I wasn’t sure but as the time passed, more things proved this song is something special between Chanyeol and Baekhyun.

Chanyeol sung this song more but him, singing it during the JYP Party People, literally shattered my heart and if I had any doubts before, about this song being related to Baekhyun, those doubts completely faded away.

I’m sure everyone went crazy after watching it.

Who can ever forget Baekhyun’s reaction when Chanyeol started singing the ‘’Creep’’? YES, no one.

I don’t know about you guys but to me, this is more than obvious. Baekhyun barely could hold his smile. This is LOUD.

This is not only about Baekhyun’s reaction but about Chanyeol’s glances as well. Look at this.

This is how they looked at each other before Chanyeol even would start singing.

From Baekhyun’s face, I can conclude he already knew the song Chanyeol was preparing to sing.

Of course, I can’t ignore Kyungsoo’s and Minseok’s reaction as well. They directly looked at Baekhyun. :)

And during the song, Chanyeol lost it.

Singing ‘‘Couldn’t look you in the eye’‘ while looking at Baekhyun.

Chanyeol, I can’t with you, bruh.

I don’t want to make this cheesy but may these hearts show you the direction of Chanyeol’s eyes better.

If you watch his performance, not only these screenshots, you’ll notice that even when he finished, he qucikly glanced at Baekhyun.

Chanyeol might break his neck.

Now I want to talk a bit about the lyrics of this song.

‘’Creep’’ has very beautiful lyrics. And I want to talk about them because Chanyeol never sings the FULL song, never sings the ALL lyrics.

I’m sure that none of you thought the song is this long, if you dont’t know the original version, because Chanyeol skipped some lyrics while singing.

He skipped these parts

And which is THE MOST IMPORTANT, he skipped

She’s running out again, She’s running, She runs runs runs runs… Runs… Whatever makes you happy, Whatever you want….

The first parts of the song are gender neutral, but here we see not the whole song is.

I don’t know about you guys but I find very interesting and obvious  the fact that he keeps singing this song very often but always finishes it without singing the parts with she-s, lol. And, in my opinion, I don’t even have to explsin why he never sings those parts. :)))))

As Chanyeol knows and sings this song, I guess, since 2013, I can conclude the ‘’Creep’’ very much impressed him as he wrote the ‘’Heaven’’. 

These two songs are similar.

‘‘Hello angel, you’re like a painting…’‘ - Heaven

In both songs, the authors compare their beloved ones with an angel. Interesting, right? :)
