Ya love to see it

To the folks who aren't aware of the Lily Hoshikawa stuff, long story short this meme of trans icon Lily Hoshikawa was used in an actual, honest to goodness court case because SonicFox replied to transphobes with it & they saw it as a death threat from SonicFox

i am going to sound ssssooooooo mean. but. i legit do not care if it wasn’t that couple’s intention to start a wildfire. like...no kidding. i never thought it was. who would intentionally set california on fire for a gender reveal??? they still deserve to be ridiculed as much as they are. sorry

as a californian, we know when wildfire season is. we watch it every year. we know what point in the summer is most dangerous for things like bonfires or outdoor barbecues or fireworks. how self-centered do you have to be to set off explosives in the middle of a dry field, in the middle of california, in the middle of august? in the middle of a PANDEMIC? for a GENDER REVEAL! i’m fucking livid

intention vs outcome, right? they really thought they were doing a “cool” gender reveal and that would be the end of it. get a bunch of likes on instagram. get some clout off of their unborn child. whatever. sure. i buy it. very californian sentiment, admittedly. they didn’t intend to displace 3,000+ people, coat the sky in ash (in the middle of a pandemic which attacks your respiratory system), and incinerate some of the oldest trees on earth. but that kind of disregard, vapidness at the level which they conducted themselves to even think it was a good idea.....is a kind of malice. and it’s mean of me, and kind of not helping anyone, but i want them to be embarrassed about it for the rest of their lives. end of rant

also so damn many of you are absolutely fucking convinced that while musk is evil and malicious, hes a also actually a genius like look.... these do not have to go together

sometimes, often times, people in positions of vast wealth and power are complete, absolute fucking idiots

musk has decided that he likes the image of the genius scientist

but he is not responsible for the labors of his engineers

this is a man who tried to sell us all on the idea of the hyperloop, despite it being pointed out over and over and over by expert after expert after expert that it was completely and totally 100% unfeasible as a transit system because its carrying capacity is vastly too low for the size of the infrastructure commitment and its ridiculous cost

this is a man who greenlit sending a car into space without even sanitizing it first, which is standard practice for space programs around the world to avoid the potential of destroying undiscovered microorganism ecosystems on other celestial bodies

this is a man who got himself investigated by the fucking SEC because he tried to manipulate his own damn stock prices for the sake of a fucking weed joke

this is a man in his weird super long mid life crisis calling himself a fucking "meme necromancer" to try to be a cool kid

the man is a fucking idiot. buying himself the title of "chief engineer" does not magically grant him engineering ability or knowledge

buying a company with daddys blood money does not make him a competent or savvy CEO

tesla is a nightmare company for potential investors

the man is an absolute fucking idiot and its wild to see so many of you fall for his cheap aggrandizement

Things I have learned after living with and working for rich people for years:

  • Despite owning huge houses and vast yards, they do not own tools because they just hire people to maintain their homes and lawns. Or they might have a smattering of random power tools but never anything you really need like pruners or wrenches.
  • If they need yard work (or any work) done they will - and I am being deadly serious - flag down landscapers working in the neighborhood, say “go do our yard while you’re at it”, and toss them cash.
  • They don’t cook so they know zero things about food. I asked them to pick up some garlic and I had to send a picture of garlic because they didn’t know what a head of garlic looked like.
  • They don’t know how to hand-wash dishes. I had to explain how dish soap is different from hand soap and why you have to use it on greasy things.
  • They also think every home comes with a washer, dryer, dishwasher, and fridge. I have literally been asked with total sincerity “who uses laundromats? Are all those peoples’ washers and dryers broken? Are they homeless?”
  • They think everything is disposable. If they’re out and they’re trying to decide between two things, they’ll buy both and then either stuff the one they end up not wanting in the basement or throw it away. We’ve been through 3 frying pans this year because they scrape the burned eggs off with metal utensils. Why take care of things when you can toss the old one in a landfill and buy a new one for $30?
  • Rich people will go into the Apple store to get a new iPad and buy $500 of random accessories on a whim the way we do with a bag of peanut butter M&Ms. It would never occur to them not to. Like if there’s a display rack in Target with a coffee maker and its accessories on it they’ll put one of everything in their cart without even looking at any of it.
  • iPads seem to be a pretty standard gift. If you don’t have an iPad and you are welcomed into a rich family you will have an iPad within the year. Sometimes employees even get an iPad mini or something. They also take you on vacations like it’s no big deal. They even bring staff on vacations if they’re mega rich. These gifts do not always come without strings attached, though.
  • The majority of them really truly do not care about anything but tax breaks and where their next vacation will be. They don’t know anything about history or politics or the world around them and they don’t care to. They really literally do just vote for who’s going to tax them the least and they do not lose a second of sleep over it. It wouldn’t even occur to them that they should lose sleep. To many of them politics are a niche interest like classic cars or golf. A few of them are involved strictly to increase their own wealth but the vast majority don’t have beliefs of any kind. I think this is changing now with their children’s generation (and not in a good way).

They also aren’t people lol :^)

lmao harrison ford was very open about his dislike for star wars and no one batted an eye, but now that john boyega’s contract has ended and he’s allowed to speak his mind, people are calling him “unprofessional” just because y’all don’t necessarily agree with his opinions?? y’all love to laugh about how much robert pattinson hates twilight but now when a black man jokes and talks about his own issues he had with a project he’s been a part of for years (after dealing with direct racism from fans, his character and story line getting shafted, etc) it’s suddenly an issue?? hmmmm………

conservative politics are built on the idea that people have to ‘earn’ the right not to suffer

….yeah? why y'all grown-ass adults don’t wanna work for your keep? children, sure, give them all what they need if their parents are struggling to support themselves AND a kid, but buddyYou don’t get to use the kaching cheat irl

Awesome that is not what this post says at all

Anybody at all: hey maybe life shouldn’t be built on a presupposition of suffering

Some joyless bastard, inevitably: oh, so you want to leech off society huh?1! Shall I invade your SAFE SPACE you immature sNOWfLaKE? Maybe if you weren’t granted handouts you wouldn’t need pArtiCipAtiON mEdaLs. Life is all about pain and by god I will be its conduit

“Life is about pain and by god I will be its conduit” is a raw ass quote if I saw one

sorry if this makes the post less punchy or whatever but I wanna add that while this is true, conservative politics are also built on the idea that one actually can’t earn the right to not suffer. Conservative politics are deeply hierarchical and against mobility even through hard work. For society to be ‘right’, everyone stays in their preordained place… but there is hope you’re really a lion born among lambs and could one day ‘rise to your true place.’ Which won’t happen but is a needed belief because otherwise the despair that “some people are just born to suffer” will overwhelm society.

like if you go to the history of conservative politics you see monarchism apology and stuff, switching the structure of hierarchies from being ordained by god and king, to being ordained by the market and economics. So when conservatives say “you better work for your keep” what they really mean is like, they have already decided what your keep will be.

So when you say “life is all about pain and by god I will be its conduit” you’re right. Prescribing the ‘right’ amount of pain for different people to keep them in their place is what it’s all about. You can ‘earn’ the reward for staying in your place, but that reward is only the “right not to suffer”– where you are on the hierarchy will still determine if that right is violated.

“less punchy” no reading this made me experience raw and utter terror actually

It’s easy to fall into the trap of pinning the flaws of capitalism on the abstract notion of civilization, when capitalism loves to taut itself as the only viable method through which civilization can exist.

However I still think you are falling into the trap of internalizing capitalist propaganda/ultimatums if you end up defining civilization and capitalism as one and the same for all pragmatic purposes.

Like ancient civilizations were still civilization. From Mesopotamia to Japan, from the Sahara to the Cape, and all tribal peoples of the Americas - they both are and were all civilizations.

To define civilization as the abstract “Western Civilization” (Like a fascist might) or to otherwise imply that White-Christian-Capitalism is the only True Civilization (Again, like a fascist) is to cede way too much ground to far right framing in my opinion.
