As my sewing machine is not nearly awesome enough to handle any sort of nice applique like the kind you might usually find on a plush or complicated garment like this. So I improvised and did a lot more work.

Each piece was cut out with extra to allow me to fold over the edges and pin them down to then sew close to the edge when applying it to the main parts of the panel.

This is pretty easy for the most part but anywhere there are sharp curves it gets a lot more tricky. Hopefully the pictures explain at least a bit of how I managed those curves. Sewing bits of material onto the problem areas allowed me to turn them “inside out” and gave me the nice crisp lines in the tight areas I wanted.

Avatar

Time to add some color, the crazy slow and painful way. I decided to sew the different colors onto the green rather then painting them or something else far easier. The “feather lines” are also sewn, contemplating going back with a bit of dye to make them pop later but I have not decided if its worth the risk.

Despite the mass amounts of pinning and sewing the end result was so worth it.

Avatar

After some intense pattern finalizing it was time to start making all the bits. After sewing out the base parts of all 5 panels the cloak would be constructed from I decided to put a gradient on the green parts.

In the end it didn’t turn out as dark or noticeable as I would have liked but its there none the less. It was a fun experiment regardless.

Avatar

The cloak is a rather insane and complicated design and material is expensive so the second step was prototyping. A grabbed a few bed sheets from the thrift store and took over my office's kitchen on a weekend to have enough room to pattern out something so ridiculous and large.

The basic design totally worked out to my relief and my first test was close enough to perfect that I could use it as a template and just fix it a bit and head straight to the next step.

Last year a bought a raptor mask blank from Forgess and have been slowly picking at making a costume for it. I got monstrously sidetracked from the actual mask as soon as myself and RamblingHeartWood started brainstorming and working on a design together. When I say together mostly I mean she made up some amazing designs and I yay’d or nay’d certain bits and scribbled on her drawings like a child til we came up with something we both loved.

The concept sketches are all RamblingHeartWood, the vectorized versions that played with colors are my obsessive tracing works of art.

So here is the initial concept for the cloak for the most kick ass raptor druid ever.

I joined the Christmas Doll Exchange run each year by Eviecats. I was very sad I did not have the time last year and jumped on it this time.

I got Avanii as my partner who made me this amazingly gorgeous dragon.

I had quite the learning curve on this doll as it was my first time working with fur and my first time making any sort of mustelid. The doll was quite a bit late to its owner as I scrapped the first one and started again from scratch after making a ton of mistakes. Regardless in the end I produced something I could be proud of.

Anonymous asked:

why do you hate bhb?

HWHO’S READY FOR ANOTHER NOVEL OF A POST? I KNOW I AM! (i’m supposed to be doing laundry rip, it can wait another day)

BHB reptiles is a reptile distributing and breeding company owned and operated by Brian Barczyk. It is most popular from its show “SnakeBytes”. In this show, he shows of his collection of upwards of 80,000 snakes and other reptiles. Throughout the show, you can see how he keeps his animals; most, if not all, are in improper conditions and in result to this, many are sick or mite infested. Though I’m honestly just going to list off all the reasons that I hate him and BHB because I haven’t slept in 2ish days and…. I’m not great at writing like this.

#1: He is horribly neglectful to his animals.

You can’t tell me that an alligator is happy living in a kiddie pool

Or that a GIANT snake such as a reticulated, african rock, or burmese is happy living in a tub so small that it takes up HALF of it.

And it’s not just giant animals that are in terrible tubs, most of his ball pythons and colubrids are in horribly small enclosures as well.

He is also guilty of buying animals without ANY research beforehand and those animals dying. Prime example is when he first tried getting into the leopard gecko business: https://youtu.be/uSJmHzq8Q8c

just listen about how he talks about them “this is my baby” to “gonna be pumpin out leopard geckos” like? No these are another form of free money to you…. even his WIFE knows that he kills animals.

I’m sure there’s more in this category that I’m forgetting, but… you get the point.

#2: He’s a scammer.

He may not sell his animals for the most money, but the animals he sells aren’t even worth THAT. There are countless reports of his animals showing up with RI’s, mites, and even incorrect gene listing. And when they contact him about this? He disappears or calls them “haters”. A prime example of this is this post: http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=211323

I’m not incredibly clear on the whole scaleless ball python scandal, and probably someone could fill this in better, but from what I’ve gathered, he killed one of the scaleless ones and refuses to answer any questions about it.

He is also guilty for flipping animals. Most of his short tails he orders in then IMMEDIATELY offers them to sell for “discount” prices. I wouldn’t be surprised if these animals died from shock the second they got put in yet another box.

#3: He has the audacity to call himself the “face of the reptile trade”

As someone who has kept reptiles for over a decade and has spent a TON of hours volunteering to help people get over their fear of snakes, Brian’s “edutainment” is the worst thing I have ever seen. If you are trying to show people that snakes are not something to fear, DON’T HAVE THE MAJORITY OF YOUR VIDEOS BE VIDEOS OF YOU GETTING BITTEN BY SNAKES! This confirms people’s fears! He says that he wants to protect the reptile hobby, but by doing this he is ENDANGERING it. He’s trying to be the next Steven Irwin and is failing at it horribly……….

There’s probably more that I’ve missed. @i-m-snek has a great tag of all the failings of BHB, i believe its #bhb critical; definitely give it a look.

Ugh just…. I used to be a fan of snakebytes until i realized how terrible it is. They are essentially a puppy mill for reptiles. 0/10 would not recommend EVER.

I also have good word from a person who used to work with Brian Barczyk that his Burmese python, Sunshine, who “recently” died, was a replacement for the original Sunshine who died of the exact same cause: untreated infections. Many people reached the same conclusion on their own due to a number of things not adding up and there being a couple of visual differences between Sunshine 1 and Sunshine 2.

Additionally, Brian is seen on Facebook regularly giving terrible advice. Most recently I saw someone ask him a question under one of his posts; the asker said that their snake was wheezing open-mouthed and had bubbles and they asked what to do. Brian recommended waiting a WEEK to “see if the symptoms clear up” before seeking veterinary help.

I, along with many others, jumped in to say that a week was too long and the snake would likely die by then.

Not sure if you’ve noticed recently but another of his retics has a huge hole in her face from rubbing. @fimbry and i went back through videos and watched it get worse while he keeps messing with her. And Sunshine the third who he just bought at a petshop and takes straight into the room filled with animals he sells without quarantine on any level. No wonder he has RIs and mites going out on all the animals. I wouldn’t even go near this dude, afraid I might bring some insane snake disease home from looking at him.

On the retic, Brian said she had hurt her face when she escaped her tub and got loose. Well.. This screenshot is from the video where they captured her during her escape.

Do you see a mark? I don’t. Her face looks fine.

In following videos, she looked like this. It’s an obvious infected nose rub, which he denied by saying it is just an injury from when she was out. But that’s clearly a lie from the above screenshot where her nose looks fine…

The scary part is I saw her appear in this condition in multiple videos but never heard him talk about treatment or what he was doing to prevent this from happening again or worsening. Just talked about her eggs and how excited he was for more retics…. So much for education. Her face looked horrid and kept getting worse for a while there.

Oh, yeah, I had seen that one too. That poor snake is going to get a blood infection soon enough and she’ll be another on his list of dead animals that he claims to have sold to avoid telling people the truth.

This is horrifying.

He’s done!

Finally here are some pictures!

Also I changed my name. Foam Addict never sat well with me. Sure it was an apt description but it always left me feeling like it was describing a person with an affinity for some manner of party whose main event was copious amounts of soap suds flooding the dance floor... or something.

I thought long and hard about the change and I think  Foam Woods better describes what it is I do; foam critters from a fantasy forest of imagination.

Remember punching all those ogres on level? YEAH. We do too. On a pvp server no less (PS. if you’re that nelf rogue who nailed me twice before I called in the guild to trounce you, I hope you learned your lesson about picking on poor hapless trolls). Despite the fact we no longer have time to play we both loved the talbuk design, and had been looking for an excuse to make one for years. Our excuse? We had some time over the holidays! So as a thank-you to all our followers, customers, and supporters we’re giving this majestic beast away… no ogre-punching required.

The Specs: This guy stands roughly 13.5” tall, and is about 15.5” long from snout to tail tip. He’s completely hand made, from pattern to sculpts, hand painted & dyed to match our favorite of the talbuks (although he’s unarmored this time). He’s made using a series of ball and socket joints that give him a realistic range of movement, while being nice and sturdy so he won’t break down with re-positioning the way wire does. He can look majestic from a variety of different positions, from standing to trotting to lying down or sitting. He is an original, hand sculpted so he will not withstand being dropped and clunked around too much, fair warning! He’s meant to be enjoyed with care. No casts are being made, and there will not be another one… nor will we be offering them for sale at any point.

Earning Rep (ie. Entering): How do I enter?

You can enter up to three times: like, reblog, or fill out this simple google form with your email.

No give-away blogs please (we’ll be checking!). And of course, if you follow us that’d be pretty keen too.

We’ll be choosing a new home for this guy on Feb 22nd at 12pm, via random number generator. Once we have chosen a winner, we’ll contact you, get your info. and pop him in the post, at our expense. This give-away is open to anyone, worldwide.

Wait, Who the Hell Are You Again? Us? We’re a pair of artists who go by Worms and Bones respectively and specialize in the weird & wonderful… but mostly in art-doll & sculpture format. You can follow us here, or find us on facebook, DA or just keep an eye on our webpage, where you can find our shop.

We make everything from the cute to the creepy, and most points in between, and we’re sorta big on durability, since at least one of us is something of a klutz (Bones tripped over a painted line once. I wish I was kidding.). And you can always get in touch with us via email – wormsandbones@gmail.com

Disclaimers: Talbuks and their design are of course property of blizzard entertainment; we just freakin’ love ‘em so much we wanted to make one. This give-away is in no way affiliated with them, or tumblr.

Thanks again to all our followers, customers, supporters & well wishers!

Halloween

All the wedding preparations coupled with getting a toothed pulled just before Halloween left me with way less time than I would have liked to get my freak on.

However I did manage to weave myself a very nice yarn web across the front of my house and make a silly little quick spider to live on it.

The jacket is just the beginning of an unfinished costume that I will finish at some point. Figured it was cool enough to deserve a picture anyway.

The best part of Halloween however is that Mevile gets to come out of my basement art room and happily stare at all the trick-r-treaters to his delight. He was a hit with everyone and even managed to scare a few of the little kiddies. He’s almost done (Just a few little embellishments to add) and I should have proper pictures of him up in all his finished glory soon!

I Got Myself Hitched!

I fell off the internet for a while there for the best reason ever! I got married! Most of my art time and effort for a good many months was put into making all the bits and bobs for the wedding including favors, candle holders, wooden round guest “book”, flower wrap (which is a bit hard to see), place cards, wine labels, and a wedding arch.

As you can see the theme was birch and yes all the bark you see is actual bark harvested by yours truly (You can take the top most layer without harming the tree easily while the sap is running). We have a ton of birch trees in my parent’s and friend’s yards that we were able to make use of for some amazing and cost efficient wedding decorations.

It was a wonderful day filled with family and friends and I couldn’t be happier with how everything came out.

Special thanks and all the love to my friend Jen who made the gorgeous cake, to my parents for constructing the arch, and to my maid of honor (RamblingHeartWood) for being generally amazing and saving my sanity while decorating the arch.
