“He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy.”

But in Hyakkimaru's case he is his 'mama', he knows the difference between a father and a mother, you see, for all his life he was there, taking care of him, teaching him how to live and adapt, making everything he could to make this boy's life a good one.

He was the only one who sees him for who he is, just a baby left to die, a baby who needed love and family, not a monster, not a demon, just a baby, he loved him unconditionally and Hyakkimaru never needed to hear or see or sense it, cause his love was the only thing he can feel and he always felt it and he loved how it makes him feel, and that's how he knew what love means

And then he met dororo and listened to him talking about his mama and it was familiar to him, the feelings, the memories, he had those, so that what a mama means, the only person who would love you without reason, without limit, a mama just loves, by words, by acts, by the simplest stuff like cooling down your food cause you might hurt yourself, washing your face because you can't or tired to do it and going through hell to keep you safe and always worrying about you leaving but doesn't stop you either, cause a mama will help you always

So yeah he is his mama and no one can take this from him

Hi! I'm thinking about watch FullMetal Alchemist, and I was wondering what the difference was between FMA and FMAB. Is FMAB a sequel?

Oh God I've no clue when you asked this, I'm so sorry if it's been ages, I haven't been sure how to check questions.

Excellent question though!

Fma is the 2003 Era anime, created when the Manga was not yet completed. It differs from FMAB in that it focuses more on introductory characters and plot points, and is 60% filler.

While it is filler in a sense, the plot they made up for FMA is incredibly compelling and interesting, focusing more on the realistic flaws in characters and politics, aka building up the country of Amestris incredibly throughly. The concept of homunculi is also very different, as well as the main villian.

That being said, it does contain, in the first quarter, Manga material that develop the main brother's bond, which is very fun to watch if you enjoy character interaction. It's this aspect, as well as the serious tone it takes, that makes FMA my favorite anime of all time.

The sequel movie to this version is Conqueror of Shamballa!

Not to compare diamonds to diamonds though, FMAB is also incredible. It's not actually a sequel, but a more accurate remake! While it definately rushes over the beginning (watching fma first should help fill the gaps), it separates from FMA with entire Manga related plots and new wonderful characters.

It builds a whole world with many countries and new friends, as well as new homunculi concepts and villians. This one is so much fun to watch, and does a good job at sharing a compelling, accurate, and exciting world!

This show has the movie sacred star of milos taking place near the start, for reference!

To summarize, both renditions are amazing for their own reasons, both are tied as my favorite show, since it's easier to just say fullmetal when people ask, lol. Fma is serious and diverges from the Manga, and my favorite of the two by a small margin. Brotherhood is more funny and canonically accurate, and introduces some beloved characters. They're different shows after around episode 20 or so, but both have their perks.

My suggestion for starting out? Watch 2003 first for the elric backstory and epic art style, then brotherhood for the real journey and end! 2003 fma made me fall in love with the characters enough to fall in love with brotherhood too.

I hope this even remotely helps! Any fullmetal is a good bet, trust me you'll like at least one of them!

fma 2003 ran so fmab could also run. we would not even have fmab if 03 wasnt so successful and beloved. fmab’s budget came from 03′s success. 03 even had its 14ish-episode epilogue miniseries cut into one movie so that they could get started on fmab. i have no patience for people who act like 03 is bad. i dont even have patience for the mindset of “03 walked so fmab could run.” no. fma 03 ran. it ran very differently from fmab, so that we wouldn’t have two of the same thing twice, and everyone is going to have a preference to one’s approach/style/story over the other. but 03 ran. it ran hard.
