I've just noticed the only portraits where Caleb's face is scratched out are the ones where Philip looks happy, what if it's a subconscious thing where the happy times hurt him too much to remember and he tried to make himself forget them because if he only remembers the stuff that happened after, it's easier for him to go through with his plan ok my heart is broken now that's enough portrait redraws for the day :'))))))

rewatching s1 (which is wild in comparison to s2), i forgot how messed up they present the isles honestly

weather that turns you inside out, creatures that casually eat each other on the street, people who are just genuinely chill with child murder, the fact eda mentions they might of used to eat babies at one point, walls that breath and blink, lots of body horror….
