Dust motes fly up into the air after you open the doors to the storage room off of the daycare. Flicking on the light that buzzes like an annoying fly circling the room, you huff a dry, stale scent and rest a fist on your hip. Spring cleaning of toys, decorations, and general surveying of items for the young children under the Daycare Attendant’s stewardship is not your favorite project, but you have never denied nor complained when given new directives by your manager.
The shelves are thickly lined with cardboard boxes all bearing a stamp of the FazCo logo and a smiling Freddy head. A few tops are open, overflowing with green and red Christmas garland, Bonnie bunny ear headbands from Easter, the coloring paints and construction paper for crafting turkey handprints, and the tops of glitter containers of red, white, and blue for July.
You figure this will take all afternoon of your shift, which is a shame. You can’t lend Sun a hand. He has gathered all the children for arts and crafts, setting them on primary-colored plastic tables and chairs so adorably small for the little ones. He’s no doubt hovering over all of them now to ensure each project entertains the children thoroughly despite the children usually taking to the crayons and coloring books with gusto.
