WIP INTRO: The Darkened Skies

A hundred years ago the two children of a dying king made a pact to split the land in two and stick to their own borders. Today their descendents are at war.

Senara Trevaskis, an elven ranger who once kept the borders of the Caideffn Forest, is disgraced. She failed in her duties to protect the Duke of Ins Gafain and has been thrown to the bottom of society, forced into a war she has no desire to fight she can see only one way to regain her social standing, bring the new Duchess the rival Prince’s head.

But as she soon learns, that might be more difficult than anticipated, and there might be things about him, and the war, that she was unaware of. Senara needs to act quickly and, as the sky begins to darken, time is running out.

about
  • The darkened skies is a m/f New Adult Fantasy romance, and whilst there is plot the romance is definitely the focus!
  • There are lgbt+ characters, Senara is bisexual (like me!) as well as other side characters
  • enemies to lovers
  • Is told in first person all from Senara’s perspective

writing should be fun.

make oc playlists. spend hours on moodboards that have no purpose. write self-indulgent fluff that’s never going to be published. scribble three lines of poetry in the back of your history notebook. draw fanart of your own characters. write stupid dialogue that your publishers might hate. start new wips that you might never finish but write those three chapters that make you happy because if you don’t write them, who else will?

writing shouldn’t always be about “will publishers like this” or “i have to reach this word count” or “how do i get the most likes”.

have fun with your writing.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but it is completely normal for your tastes to change and mature with you.  it can be sad to realize that the shows and hobbies that used to fill you with joy no longer excite you in the same way, but it doesn’t mean those feelings are gone forever.  There will be new things that make you just as happy, you just have to open yourself up for it.  Life is impermanent but that doesn’t mean it isn’t real.

Ok just cause I’m still salty and this needs to be said: just because your story is a bit predictable doesn’t mean it’s bad. sometimes that just means that your story makes sense. if nothing in your story is predictable then you have crossed the line from “keeping viewers on their toes” to “nonsensical nightmare that doesn’t deliver on any front”
