Hey! Name's Nate! I'm always game for magic lore, or fanwalker stuff too. Finn is a pretty cool character, just sayin.

After the Phyrexian invasion collapsed what happened to the planes which fell completely to Phyrexia? Tezzeret mentioned that Mirrankkar, Cabralin and others fell to Phyrexia quickly and others were nearly there, did they recover to normal? Are they dead planes or are there perhaps Phyrexians there struggling to survive like on New Capena?

Avatar

That's not the kind of thing you're going to get answered any time soon, unfortunately.

Avatar

I'd imagine the answer is not "everything went back to normal" at least. It's probably not a happy tale.

As someone excitedly following the MKM story every day, I really didn’t appreciate having to bail on the preview stream to avoid finding out whodunnit before it was revealed in today’s chapter. Could you pass along the note to please, please not pit folks’ story interest against their card preview interest like that? I know it got a lot of story fans upset.

Thank you.

Avatar

Would you have preferred the story being posted before the stream?

Avatar

Honestly, yes. With it being a murder mystery especially, I was eagerly excited to read today's story before the stream. But when it didn't come out, and I read that the murderer was going to be revealed during the stream, I panicked and didn't watch it.

This story has been amazing! High fives to everyone involved in it coming to life. But I can't help but feel like having the murderer revealed this way was a disservice to the story.

Hi Jay,

The recent story seems to heavily imply that the Ravnican population as a whole are pissed off with *all* planeswalkers for not coming to their aid during the Phyrexian Invasion. Are they all being entitled ass-hats (what with the number of planeswalkers << numberof planes being invaded), or am I missing something here?

Avatar

Imagine you are an average Ravnican.

Imagine if the most important position in your government was taken by a being from outside of your world, and they disappeared for long stretches off-world. You've never heard of a planeswalker before.

Imagine if within the span of a few months, half your other heads of state were replaced by planeswalkers just like him, most of which because of assassinations... carried out by these same planeswalkers. Most at the behest of ANOTHER planeswalker, a massive evil dragon who launches an invasion with off-world murder zombies and wreaks havoc on your world. You finally know the name planeswalker, and associate it with the worst tragedy to happen on your plane in millennia.

All to get at these planeswalkers. And at the cost of thousands of lives - YOUR lives, YOUR people, the ones that the dragon AREN'T after, they win. Every single one of those planeswalkers owes their lives to the citizens of Ravnica. Every. Single. One. Dozens of planeswalkers, deep in Ravnica's debt.

Two years later, one of those planeswalkers, a supposed local, launches yet another invasion. Worse than the last. And where were these planeswalkers YOU saved in THEIR hour of need, now that YOU need them?

Not a single one of the dozens whose lives were bought with the blood, sweat, and tears of average Ravnicans could be bothered to show up. Even the Orzhov Guildmaster couldn't even be bothered to show up. The only one that did was the Izzet Guildmaster.

Azor's beard. These ungrateful assholes. Planeswalkers suck. We hate them.

Which Theros gods got phyrexianized and which didn't? And is there any hope for the phyrexian ones to heal or are they too far gone?

Avatar

We know the mono-colored gods are either confirmed or heavily implied, and likely many of the others. Cymede likely means Keranos, for instance.

As for the metaphysics of what comes next, we don't know yet.

Avatar

Unless I missed something, the only two who we know are safe are Athreos and Ephara, and Athreos wasn't on a card so that "safe" is a probably, not a 100%.

Where’s Athreos mentioned?

And Jay’s comment on Cymede and Keranos seems to imply enough of Keranos’s followers were compleated to affect him too, but I’m not sure why that would necessarily be the case. Couldn’t Cymede just be a one-off?

Athreos was mentioned in the Team-up article:

https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/the-legendary-team-ups-of-march-of-the-machine

Specifically, look at the Kroxa and Kunoros section.

If New Phyrexia was shunted into the metaphysical location of Zhalfir, if the Zhalfirin Void on Dominaria became unphased (somehow), would New Phyrexia overlay into Dominaria (in a similar manner to the Rathi Overlay)?

Avatar

It's possible, but extremely unlikely. It took an event of cosmic importance, and the Invasion Tree, to pluck Zhalfir out of the metaphysical pocket it was occupying.

It's also not clear what would even remain of it, the physical world was crumbling, and it's not clear if Norn's 'kill switch' was tied to her or the plane itself.

Avatar

At least back in the old days of magic, artificial planes like New Phyrexia needed either one of the god-like walkers managing it, or an equal amount of mana from all 5 sources, or else thwy would slowly collapse. That's why Karn built it like he did with the five suns. So, hypothetically, with the five suns gone and no god-like walkers anymore, who knows? Maybe New Phyrexia will simply collapse in that metaphysical time out zone.

(Probably not if we're honest, they were put in time out instead of blown up for a reason)

Are we going to see one legendary creature with multiple versions in a set like urza and mishra in dominaria united going forward? I like that because sometimes i want to pkay as a certain character but dont like the design so I like that I can pick between several different mechanical cards. Hiw about for lord of the rings? I want like 5 frodos and many gandalfs. This helps because sometimes people like the character but dislike the card.

Avatar

A fine question. How many of the same character should appear in a set?

Avatar

I like the idea as an rare thing, but only if it makes sense. In BRO it was due to time travel, so in the future it would probably have to be due to the character changing dramatically.

If Jin-Gitaxias altered the glistening oil so it now retains Planeswalker souls, could that apply to all newly-created Phyrexians? I've noticed some of them, especially Ixhel, acting very strangely for Phyrexians.

Avatar

That's an interesting thought!

Jay idk if you can answer this yet, but some of us are confused on Kaya's thought process stopping Iron Jace from using the Silex. They did so much to get it and make it down there. Kaito wants the wanderer and kamigawa to be ok, but I don't get HER drastic change from trying to save the multiverse did she see danger to multiple planes and would risk fighting the armies after all their work?

Avatar

It's less a sudden change and more "hold on, we need to talk about this". It's a magical nuke that just went from 'we blow up new phyrexia' to 'hold on, we could blow up a LOT of planes, and potentially cause worse damage than we're trying to fix, let's take a moment'. They were ALREADY surprised by how different New Phyrexia is than they were hoping, and I don't think it's unreasonable to say "hold on a second". Jace, however, didn't have any more time and forced the issue.

For perspective, when the Sylex was detonated on Dominaria, not only did it usher in a 3,000 year Ice Age (which would have consumed the plane if the Worldspell hadn't been cast), but it also ruptured the fabric of the Blind Eternities, creating the Shard of Twelve Worlds, a barrier that made it impossible for planeswalkers to enter or leave a group of twelve planes.

Welcome back to the final part of my Pokemon Legends Arceus nuzlocke. Its time for the end folks, so lets get right into it.

Part 7: An End.

It's time to end this and fight Volo. Honestly, I have nothing interesting to report about getting all the plates. Instead, I got them, hung out with my team one last time, and went up to meet him on the Mountain's peak.

It's all down to this. I defeat Volo and then Giratina, twice, or I die. 8 pokemon vs my 6, and each time I take 1 of his  down, the replacement will likely get off an attack or two before I can react, which could kill whomever is out at the time. This isn't going to be easy. But everyone on the team is ready to make the ultimate sacrifice if it comes to it.

Volo begins the first with his Spiritomb, and I Chaucer. Chaucer gets off a Play Rough, taking down the Spiritomb, but not before it lands a Hypnosis, making Chaucer drowsy. Next up is Lucario. Chaucer goes to use a fire move… but he's too tired, and Lucario gets a free attack. Lucario lands a Close Combat, killing Chaucer. Wasn't expecting death quite so soon, but I'll grieve later. Underdog comes out and buries the Lucario. Togekiss comes out, and in one hit knocks Underdog to half health. Not good. I look at my options, and realize a switch will do more damage than good. Wiping away the tears, I order Underdog to do as much damage as possible with a Poison Jab, and while he does enough to get it below half health, it also finishes Underdog off. Dinah finishes off the Togekiss, and Volo sends out Arcanine. I swap to Azure, who oneshots it, then Roserade arrives, and immediately Strong styles a grass move, killing Azure.

Chaucer and Underdog? That hurt. My starter falling? Devastating. But I'm not giving up, and Dinah returns, taking out both Roserade and Garchomp. Volo is down. Two rounds with Giratina left, and I've got Adapt, a wounded Dinah, and LadyRidge, who will die to Giratina. Adapt needs to soak Giratina's attacks long enough to kill it twice, because the other two won't be able to stop it.

Giratina arrives, and Adapt, tiny beside this behemoth, roars right back at it. She's tough, but the Aura Sphere's hurt. It's a slow burn, but Adapt is able to finish the first phase. So far, I have never used healing items, but I never said I couldn't. I'm using the few I have to keep Adapt standing. Giratina in its second form has lower defenses, but higher attack. I'm not able to keep her health up, and she falls, but not before getting Giratina almost to red. LadyRidge is at full health, but at best can do not-effective damage and has a type disadvantage. Dinah is hurt, but her ghost moves could kill Giratina as long as she goes first. I gotta risk Dinah for the kill.

Dinah goes, but doesn't kill the Giratina. My heart skips a beat as Giratina goes, but by some miracle Dinah survives on 20 health. I've got a second chance. Dinah attacks …

… and Giratina falls. Giratina flees, Volo is finished, and I sit there exhausted, stressed, but victorious. 2 months, 16 deaths, and 3 survivors, if you count Mom, which I do. I've beat the nuzlocke.

Pokemon Legends Arceus completed.
Surviving Teammates:
LadyRidge, Dinah, Mom Shipton
Teammates lost:
Diorite, Nutmeg, Cordyceps, Lily, Gari, Timelord, Lilith, Kodiak, Justice, Cranky, Goop, Batgirl, Chaucer, Underdog, Azure, Adapt

And that's that folks. It's been nice writing again, haven't done it on here since my Finn short stories. If you liked these, please let me know, I'd really appreciate.
