For anyone who hasn't seen them before, Hidden Search Operators are handy tricks you can use when you're either searching or filtering AO3.

summary: string is a generic way of explaining that you can search AO3 for a specific word that appears in a summary. You can do this from the search bar in the header, from the Any Field box at the top of the Advanced Search form, or from the Search Within Results box at the bottom of the filter menu.

Examples:

  • summary: Bruce
  • summary: "Bruce Banner"
  • summary: Bruce OR summary: Banner OR summary: Hulk

You need to put quotation marks around your search term if it is more than one word. The quotes make sure that the site searches for those two words together.

The other two operators listed work best in the Search Within Results box.

expected_number_of_chapters: 1 will return results where every fic has only 1 chapter currently posted.

You can use expected_number_of_chapters: -1 if you want results where every fic has more than 1 chapter currently posted.

otp:true will return results where there is only 1 relationship tag on the fic. If you want results where there are 2+ relationship tags (and no fics with only 1 relationship tag) then you can use otp:false

Thinking about power level in hazbin hotel and helluva boss

So, Alastor is powerful enough to terrorize regular sinners and even some overlords. He managed to hold Adam up for a hot second, which was a surprise for him. So maybe we can safely assume he's the most (or at least close to) powerful sinner that's been portrayed in cannon. Idk maybe zestiel could give him a run for his money.

Meanwhile, Charlie did manage to give Adam trouble, just like Alastor. She lost, ofc, BUT I'd like to address a few things: 1. For her kind, she's very young (when compared to Lucifer, Lilith and Adam). 2. As far as we know, she had no battle training and, given she's shown to be very much against violence, I don't think she ever learned how to fight. 3. During her fight with Adam, she was distracted, since Vaggie and Lute were fighting as well. Most of the hits she took happened while she tried to go help Vaggie. My point being: Charlie is probably more powerful than we know.

Adam is powerful enough to kill most sinners without blinking, including Sir Pentious. BUT he did have to make an effort to fight Alastor (who's a mortal soul) and Charlie. I'd like to see him go up against one of the deadly sins or even Ars Goetia tho. Would Bel or Stolas wipe the floor with him? Maybe.

As for Lucifer, he's obviously the most powerful being we have seen fight in S1. Alastor and Charlie had trouble fighting Adam? Luci didn't even notice. There was Adam, trying his best to hit Luci, and then there was Luci just laughing and remembering he got BOTH OF ADAM'S WIVES LOL. The only moments when he seems to take the fight seriously was when Charlie was threatened. Even when he was distracted, Adam didn't even scratch him. So yeah, Lucifer was a bit overkill.

I kinda want him to fight Sera. Lol.

So I finally watched Hazbin Hotel

I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS

  • Can we have a second season like YESTERDAY?
  • I'm a theater kid so OF COURSE I'm stanning all the songs. We need more unapologetically musical series.
  • More than anything is my FAVE I mean THE FEELS? Ffs. I'm literally crying.
  • Lucifer being a socially awkward cinnamon roll and also wholesome dad and also overpowered bamf!? THIS IS CINEMA.
  • Charlie is such a lovely character. Also she's my baby and I've known her for 24 hours but if anything happened to her I'd kill everyone and then myself.
  • Lucifer and Alastor's rivalry over Charlie? I mean I cackle every time I replay Hell's Greatest Dad. Perfect. Flawless.
  • Emily, Vaggie, and Lucifer are apparently the only angels who behave like angels and they're getting shit for it.
  • I wish we'd seen more of Emily this first season, hopefully she'll be more present in s2
  • The fact that Adam believed he could 1v THE LITERAL DEVIL HIMSELF sums up basic white guy self-esteem. Also Lucifer stole both of his wives? WILD.
  • I'm all for Vaggie sparing Lute so she'd have to live with it. That said, I'd also be all for Vaggie cutting the asshole's fucking head. So, yeah.
  • Vaggie and Charlie are sooooo good??? My babies omggggg
  • Also Lucifer 'oh you like women? So do I we have so much in common' I CAN'T
  • I'd say Lucifer is the og ally but tbh I'm not convinced he's not one of them queers as well. Who are we kidding? He probably nailed Adam as well. He did it. He conquered Eden. With his dick. That's my headcannon. Idc.
  • Alastor's effing creepy. I stan.
  • What's the deal with lilith?????
  • Angel Dust's episode broke my heart.

I'm kind of at a point where the "queer spaces" i feel safest in are the ones that have a pet cishet dude or two hanging around

When a space cares a lot about making sure its members are queer enough to participate, you get a space that aggressively polices the queerness of its members. There's no way around that, it's pretty much tautologically true. Only by paradoxically not actually caring if you're queer or not can a group really accept the full range of what queerness can look like.

Also, a space that has room for a cis straight guy who means well and wants the best for his friends has two crucial things going for it.

1) it has space for people who are learning and might fuck up a bit while they figure things out, and that learning process is probably not so godawful and unpleasant that a guy with other prospects would have to be a fool not to go find some nicer friends. This is nice because it is very difficult to personally embody the entire alphabet at once, and learning how to be good allies to one another is a crucial part of queer solidarity. It's nice for that process not to be painful.

2) it has space for people who aren't yet willing to or comfortable with presenting an externally queer label to continue to exist and soak up the queer vibes and information, which means it's welcoming to actual questioning people rather than the theory of questioning people. Probably it therefore has more interest in actually doing things rather than hierarchy politics.

3) it's probably not a radfem tar pit interested in weaponising you against people they've decided to hate in a social smear war that benefits nobody and nothing but their need for a power trip

Modern au - Vesemir royally screws up by driving Aiden away.

“Aiden.”

“I’m sorry Lambert. Please believe me I am so fucking sorry, but I can’t keep on like this and I’m not going to be the boyfriend who makes you choose between me or your family.”

“So your making the choice for me. Real fucking nice.”

Aiden gave him a sad, teary smile as he threw his duffel bag into the trunk of his beat up, third hand car, “Your family’s everything to you, Pup. Look me in the eye and tell me you wouldn’t regret cutting ties with any of them.”

“You’re family too!”

“It’s been made pretty clear time and again that I’m not and never will be as far as certain people are concerned. I love you Lambert, but there’s only so many times I can take being made to feel like some lowlife criminal every time I interact with your dad.”

Lambert felt his tongue stick to the roof of his mouth when he realised that he couldn’t even argue that. As he had when he and Lambert had first started dating, Aiden had been upfront about the shit he’d been involved with when he was younger and new to trying to fend for himself after ageing out of the system when the conversation at their first meeting had turned towards questions about his family and childhood. Ever since, Vesemir had taken every opportunity to weaponise it against the younger man - despite the fact that Aiden’s life could very well have been that of any of his own sons had fate played out differently. Lambert, Geralt and Eskel had been some of the lucky ones in the Care Kid Lottery. Aiden, not so much.

Every time, Lambert had asked him to give Vesemir another chance, promising it would be different this time (it had taken him awhile to warm up to Jaskier too, and he was a god damn ray of sunshine) and every time, Vesemir had made him a liar.

Aiden moved his arms awkwardly, looking like he was trying to decide if going in for a hug would be a wise idea until a couple of tears finally fell. He wiped them away hastily as he stepped back, opening the driver’s side door, “Goodbye, Lambert. I wish you every happiness.”

Lambert could only stand and stare as his every happiness drove away down the dirt track.

He heard the front door creak open followed by multiple pairs of footsteps, because of course they couldn’t even let him get his heart stomped on in private – they’d probably all had their noses pressed to the kitchen window. Jaskier was stood shoulder to shoulder with Geralt, looking like he was making a huge effort not to start crying himself while his brother was grim faced. Eskel strode towards him, giving him the same heartbroken look as he had when Lambert was newly seven and had casually informed them he’d never gotten birthday presents before.

“Shit, Lambert.”

He went to pull him into a hug which Lambert immediately ducked away from, “Don’t Esk. Just...fucking don’t .” He pleaded, voice breaking as he stomped back towards the house, jabbing a finger at Vesemir with a snarl as he did so. The old man had yet to react to anything that had just transpired, despite being the cause.

“I am never going to forgive you for this.”

My thoughts on Smallville 1x08 “Jitters.”

Confession: I watched this episode the other night.  I’m watching it again because I enjoyed it so much. Okay, now that I’ve said that onto the episode.

I drag on the Smallville writers (for context I’ve been ranting about the show on several discord servers I’m on) but I want to compliment here in these opening scenes. The writers are showing the Kents are poor instead of simply telling it or simply having Lex offer a loan one episode and then never showing the Kents financial issues again. We actually get to see how oh, Kents don’t have money to spare. We see this in how Johnthan fixes the truck himself instead of going to an auto mechanic. We see this in how Martha is going to handle a plumbing issue herself instead of calling a plumber.

A small detail I like that makes this house feel lived in is how there's several cabinet doors left open that we can see behind Clark when he’s opening the fridge. I have a habit of opening cabinets, grabbing what I need, and completely forgetting to close them until a minute or more has passed. And then it’s ‘oh shit, I’ve got to close that.’

Also is it just an universal farmer thing for farmers to own a truck with a toolbox on the back? Because my great grandfather was a farmer and he had a truck with a toolbox in the back just like how Johnthan does.

Jonathan: “I’m definitely raising your allowance.”

Some thoughts here. 1.) Clark probably isn’t going to get that allowance raise after the party. 2.) We know Clark does the work of several farm hands - even though he’s juggling school - because this is mentioned in the episode the Kents needed a loan so my question is where does that saved money go? Is it given to Clark’s allowance? Is money the Kents keep to pay for stuff they need? Is it set aside for Clark’s college fund or for his first car? Looking back knowing what I do now…. Jonathan probably should have let Clark keep that truck. The Kents can’t afford a new car for their son and even if they go with an older car they’re still going to have to pay for repairs unless the used car is still in dealership warranty. But Jonathan was too prejudiced to accept it because of who Lex’s father was. I could understand vetoing the truck if Lionel was the one who gave it but it was Lex. I just **shrugs** I’ve got thoughts on Jonathan - I like him but he frustrates me - and I don’t know how to convey them so moving on.
