Hey there! You can call me T and that lovely evil creature in my hand is my cat Maisie!

Over the past year we’ve run into several financial mishaps. I was forced to take a lot of time off work due to catching COVID-19 and planning for the death of a family member. Plus I lost my health insurance this year. I have both epilepsy and PCOS, and I can no longer afford to treat either of my conditions, or get any veterinary care for Maisie in the meantime. On top of it all, I’m about $2000 short on rent, I’ve been paying it in fragments but I always behind again when the month changes. I know that’s a lot to ask, but literally anything would help!

This backlash against metoo, and third wave feminism is fucking killing people.

I'm trying to cover an over $400 overdraft before even more fees hit. I lost 3 days work with the flu. I'm still paying 2 car notes bc the dmv, my car financer and geico are STILL tryna settle my wreck from September. I still need to pay my $282 car insurance or it will be canceled on the 29th. and one of our cats still needs to go to the vet. This is overwhelming and terrifying. I am still having appointmentss on top of all this, i have one Monday where i have to pay for parking. Please yall.

What's going on in the congo rn is one of many many reasons that the right to repair is a VITAL tenant in leftism imo

At this point smartphones, laptops, and other similar devices are necessary for daily life in the US. Like if I did not have a phone and a laptop, I couldn't hold down a job, it would be extremely difficult to access public transportation, my education depended upon my ability to access the internet, etc. Tech companies know that their products are indispensable. So do they make products that last? No of course not, they need you buying a new device every two years. That just makes sense under capitalism. But ofc this system spreads far beyond our borders; this system of planned obsolescence is supported by the plunder of the global south for lithium (like in Bolivia) and cobalt (like in Congo).

The imperialist extraction of resources could be challenged if, say, we could repair a device rather than needing to purchase a new one. Companies like apple know this, and have gone out of their way to make such things impossible just to continue making shit products for too much money. It sucks!
