I enjoy adventure and testing my limits. This is my place to ramble about endurance training and all that goes with it. Somehow along the way I became "experienced"...almost 18 years and 150+ events later. How in the world did that happen?

In addition to my hip resets and stretching almost 90 minutes a day, I started practicing guided meditation. I'm on my second time through a "sports rehab" course. While it isn't always easy, I'd say 10/10, it is really helping me out.

Had PT again this morning. Hoping to get back in the pool tomorrow.

I feel like I made an accurate portrayal of my life right now. On the days I feel pretty good, it's hard knowing what I can/should do. It seems like it doesn't take much for the muscles to get fatigued and send me back into the "electrified knife stabbing me in the butt with every step I take" mode. That is not a fun place to be.

Yesterday, I swam 800 yards. All with a pull buoy. And no pushing off the wall, so I would stand up and turn around at the end of each length. But it felt so good to be back in the pool. And I felt good this morning, which is a good sign. Hoping to swim again tomorrow.

It's been three weeks since my last run and 9 days since my last bike ride. Not that I'm counting 😏...I sure miss moving outside!

How should one take a photo when the horizon line and the line in the forefront don't match? Lake horizon is fairly straight, but the grass is on a slope. Makes it look all goofy.

Stopped at the park after PT today. Still in quite a bit of pain when I walk. Best described as an electrified knife stabbing me in the butt with every step. Zzzzap! 😏

Got on the bike again yesterday. Tried to stay on flatter roads, and rode to Potter where Adam picked me up on his way home from work.

Walking still hurts, so no running 😕

It was thundering for hours this morning. Kona wasn't happy, and jumped up on the table while I was trying to do my therapy stretches. And more storms coming tonight 😕

I felt good enough to get outside on my bike this afternoon. First outdoor ride since Sunday. It felt good, but it feels like I can't generate much power (could I ever? Haha), so I feel like I am just easy spinning...but I will take being able to ride in some fresh air!

Biking seems to feel good right now, so I'm just going to roll with it. PT eval today. Therapy starts on Wednesday. Hoping to get back to normal and back on the trails and back to sleeping through the night sooner rather than later. Definitely not off to a great start on my "40" bucket list!

A whopping two bike rides this week. PT eval on Monday to hopefully get started being back to normal 🤞😬😫

Still in my boat, paddling, but seemingly going nowhere 🥴

My back is still spasming at night, and it leaves an effect for the beginning part of my morning. So almost all of my runs and rides have been in the middle of the day (aka HEAT). Still no swimming.

I tried a bunch of new things last week, including a massage and anti-inflammatory juice. I actually slept through the night two nights in a row. But now it feels like I'm back where I started. I'm guessing that tomorrow I'll take some steps in a different direction to try and get to the bottom of this.

Sidenote: I actually enjoy this juice, even though I thought it would be super disgusting!

I've been taking a few more rest days than normal for me, but I've still been getting some rides and runs in. It has been in the upper 80s and low to mid 90s for a few days. Way warmer than I am used to. And both rides over the weekend had a 30mph wind. So it's been a bit of a sufferfest here, with trips to the chiro in-between. Hoping for some relief soon! 🤞

Early morning miles.

School is out for the summer!! That was the longest feeling school year since 2004. I think it will take awhile to decompress.

This week was crazy. So glad it is over!

Slowly got back into some rhythm last week. That sinus infection really knocked me on my butt. That + warmer temperatures made running seem ridiculously difficult for awhile.

Still no swimming, because my back and shoulder have been kind of jacked up for awhile. Hoping that I will start to get some things figured out with a trip to the chiro tomorrow.

Got in a mountain bike ride and a road ride today. Really enjoyed the reforestation camp again. I'd go there all the time if I lived closer.

3.5 days of school left. This has been the longest feeling school year since year #1 (which was 17 years ago! 😬). It will be a busy week, but I'm sure looking forward to a break!

As luck would have it, I woke up the morning before my first event since July with a massive head cold. Didn't feel much better and broke one of my race day rules- I took a Sudafed before the race. I felt pretty cruddy during the event but still stayed on my feet for almost all six hours, even if most was walking. By my Garmin it was 18.6 miles. By race mileage, it was closer to 20.

It was neat to see so many people enjoying the trails for their first experience!

I felt worse on Sunday than Saturday. And worse Monday than Sunday. So I went to the walk-in yesterday and have a sinus infection. It's really knocked me on my butt!

I haven't done much but sit around for three days. Hope to be back at it soon!

3 more trail miles tonight. Next up: an untrained six hour event.

4.3 miles with Kona tonight. We were both pretty happy to be out there! It hasn't been easy, but it is so nice having single-track just a few minutes away!

More miles at sinawa... but not as much as next weekend. I have a 6 hour event there on Saturday. First endurance event there in recent history. It's going to be interesting. I'll end up doing quite a bit of hiking, as the terrain is challenging!

I just finished a book called "I Shall Live". About a man's survival of the Holocaust. It was one of the most interesting/fascinating/gut-wrenching books I've read in quite some time.

Did some trail work this morning. I made 3 or 4 bypasses around some of the big waterholes. I'm not sure yet if it will be a waste of time, kind of wonder what will happen once the leaves fall. Or if people (besides me) will even use it. It sure will be nice to not bushwhack around some of those areas though.

22 miles on the bike tonight. My feet were frozen!

It rained a few days ago, and my perfect trails are holding on to a lot of water. That is a bummer.

Spin this morning and a run tonight.
