Hey guys while I’m reminiscing on old memes, the “Half A Press” video is legitimately one of the most fascinating videos I’ve ever seen and people looking at it like it’s “just a meme” are cowards

What makes it even better is before he says that he says “now what do we need all this speed for? After all, we build up speed for 12 hours”

It’s just absolutely beautiful because he deconstruct the game down to its core, making use of mechanics used to create a functional game and instead using them in new and frankly incredibly creative ways. It’s amazing, and if you missed out on the “Half A Press” meme, please watch the original video.

that… is ridiculous.

pannenkoek’s body of work is legitimately some of the most relaxing things on youtube for me

blink cycles are not the sort of thing you normally think about

nor a fish swimming towards infinity until the floating point logic of the game breaks down

but the minutiae is laid bare and it’s fascinating

it’s ultimately amazing that super mario 64 can be beaten any% without pressing the A button once, at least if you are playing on the Wii Virtual Console version, thanks to a discovery made this year that gets past the last A press that was on the any% route

According to the laws of physics, a planet in the shape of a doughnut (toroid) could exist Physicists say that such a planet would have very short nights and days, and arid outer equator, twilight polar regions, moons in strange orbits and regions with different gravity and seasons.

Actually, I’m reblogging this again. Because I just wanted to say this is a brilliant thing to potentially add to a story at some point and I want to tag this so I can find it later.

Anonymous asked:

Why is there a need to micromanage winter? During your first 'Winter Wrap Up' and 'Running of leaves' ponies needed to run to make the leaf leave the tree animals needed to be awakened, ponies need to make the nests, and the ice cut to be melted... Can't nature do it by itself? The animals awaken by themselves, birds do their nest and ice melt when the temperature increase? Not to say something called gravity help the leaves fall from the tree.

There are certainly places which are left to let nature take its course, like the Everfree Forest. Generally that’s considered scary, as it is an element one cannot control. I personally wouldn’t consider it scary, but waiting around for things to happen on their own hardly seems efficient. You may not even get the results you want in the end.

We live in a society, and part of that means managing our environment. The very basics of our way of life, such as agriculture, rely on this. You could argue there’s not a need to do any of it, and live on the plains grazing for food, but I don’t imagine many would prefer such a way of life, nor would everypony be able to survive it.

It does seem quite arbitrary to draw the line at managing the seasons, but being perfectly fine with managing the land itself, especially since the two are connected.
