this is going to sound like such a little sibling ass take but i genuinely believe that being a little bit annoying is actually a greater sign of maturity and self awareness than being universally likeable and on good terms with everyone

if some people find me annoying and can't stand me because of how i think and act then that means i'm a fully realized human being with my own personality and opinions and free will and not just a reflective surface for other people's desires, which is in fact a good thing despite what people who want you to just be a reflection of their own opinions and desires will tell you, and why being considered "cringe" or whatever doesn't bother me at all

also it's really funny when you're confident enough in yourself to know that people not liking you isn't always a sign that you're the problem. like there's something undeniably hilarious about being aware your mere existence has the power to piss someone off and ruin their day and i recommend embracing it.

What was not explored enough in ACOSF was how aware Cassian was of the mating bond and how UNAWARE Nesta was. Like that scene on the river when Nesta is all oh it’s different they’re mates and Cassian is like OH COME ON WE ARE OBVIOUSLY MATES EVERYONE KNOW IT!!! You’re just denying it because you don’t want it!!

And Nesta is just like: 👁️👄👁️

Cassian’s POV, Feyre’s POV, Rhys’ POV: Nesta is Cassian’s mate lol, Hint hint we all know we all feel, she’s his mate ayo

Nesta’s POV: why the fuck won’t this guy leave me alone what is happening here WHY DO YOU CARE?!

Like she was dealing with a few other things and actively suppressing all magic … can we give the girl a MINUTE before we start screaming at her beside the river???

I think the bridge scene in particular is so poorly done because there's no effort to accommodate Nesta or actually tell her what's going on. She's a foreigner in an unfamiliar land and everyone in the ic expects her to know what they know without ever telling her that. Did feyre tell her that cassian was her mate prior to sending her up to the house of wind? Seems obvious that she would given her own response to not being told about the bond but it's not brought up in. Does nesta even know how to reject the bond? She's basically walking blind the whole book and it does sour their relationship.

And cassian. Oh my man. Why didn't he tell her? It would be fairly compelling if cassian was torn about telling Nesta about the bond because he feared her immediate refusal - which is where I think sjm was going with that - but the bridge argument is the first time that cassian admits verbally or mentally that Nesta is his mate. He's known the whole time, he just never actually connects those two things in his POV. I think the whole argument would have gone better if he was constantly thinking about it. If his inner monolog is just "Nesta is my mate ". He's so obvious about it that of course she knows, feyre obviously told her, he's been up front about it, she just doesn't want it. The point between his internal thoughts and reality is so blurred that the bridge is the first time he admits it out loud- but surely he's said it before? - and is the first time he realizes that Nesta doesn't know.

And then has to re-evaluate several previous interactions they've had once he realized Nesta wasn't coming from a place of knowledge

But uh... that would require a level of plot clarity sjm doesn't have

I think this happens partly because SJM was trying to recreate the ACOMAF omg they're mates that happened for feysand, but like, by this point everyone going into ACOSF is AWARE, too. It was absolutely not a secret, so it didn't need to be kept from Cassian's thoughts- it was not a big reveal at all. Everyone knew at the end of ACOMAF, or at least before ACOWAR ended.

SJM's continued issue is intentionally keeping things out of her characters thoughts in order to create "gotcha" moments for her readers that blindside them because there were no clues. Cassian is frustrated because Nesta doesn't know, but even readers don't really know how frustrated he claims to be because SJM does none of that emotional work that would make sympathizing with Cassian....easy?

It is, in my opinion, one of her biggest shortcomings as a writer.

Creator Highlight #7 - @whatishowedyouinthedark

Welcome back to Feysand Creator Highlights!! We want to take a moment to recognize the amazing individuals in our fandom who kindly use up so much of their freetime and creative energy to share their work with us!

Today we'd like to highlight @whatishowedyouinthedark, better known as the queen of dark feysand. If you've spent any amount of time reading Feysand smut, chances are you've encountered one of her wickedly delightful fics—and potentially came away from it having learned something new about yourself!

But did you know that the author behind the notorious dark!Rhys is also incredibly kind? If you've ever had the pleasure of interacting with SVDG, you'll know that she's always ready to lend an encouraging word, especially if it means depravity will ensue! If you find yourself wondering if you've taken a premise too far, you can always ask yourself: What would SVDG do?

That question can be answered by reading some of the works on her masterlist HERE, or by checking out some of our favorites (and please check the warnings!):

  • The King Under The Mountain: Feyre is captured by the King Under the Mountain, who has no plans of ever letting her go.
  • Good Luck Charm: Feyre finds out Tamlin is cheating on her, and decides the president of his fraternity, who they both hate, is the perfect way to get revenge. Unfortunately, she's not exactly prepared for what she's signed up for.
  • What I've Shown You In The Dark: The one where Rhysand reminds Feyre who she belongs to.
