Show Alicent is a cry baby who at the start is a victim but slowly turns into a victimizer. For example damanding to see her step daughter's child seconds after the birth. No I won't accept the ' she asked to see the baby not the mother' bs, what mother would allow their enemy near their vulnerable newborn? Answer none.
Book Alicent although ambitious lacked hurrem's intelligence in knowing the consequences for her actions, Hurrem knew what could go wrong but Alicent either thought nothing could go wrong or she was plain stupid.
Hurrem is kind compassionate and raised her children decently, Alicent in both versions did not.
I can see her similar to show mahidevran but even show mahidevran had enough intelligence to raise her prince to be decent and not pure psycho. Mustafa had his faults but he wasn't as terrible as aemond and Aegon.
Historical mahidevran would slap her show counterpart if she ever met her. Irl mahidevran was intelligent and over all not as the show portrayed her.
Alicent wouldn't stand a chance against both these women lmao, they'd kill her 😭
This is not my area of expertise since I haven’t watched Hotd, but I will publish your ask in case anyone wants to agree with you.
I have seen HOTD Season 1 and am currently reading Fire and Blood (although I am nowhere near close to the Dance of the Dragons yet). However, I have to say that anon your hatred of Alicent is blinding you.
First of all she doesn't really go from being 'victim to victimiser' over the course of season 1. That would require her to have far more agency than she does within the show.
As for the scene where Alicent asks to see Rhaenyra's newborn son. What do you think Alicent was going to do to the baby? Kill him? Of course not. Besides she did genuinely look surprised and concerned to see Rhaenyra bringing him. Bear in mind that this is the same woman who fiercely defends Rhaenyra during the Green Council. Which is a *decision* on the writers' part but it goes to show that Alicent isn't the cartoon villain who you want her to be. As for Aegon and Aemond, I think your accusation against Alicent is unfair. First of all, she was a teenager forced into a marriage and then pregnancies that she likely didn't want and were the result of rape. Second of all, these are two children who see the favouritism towards their oldest sister by their father and the pain their mother goes through at his hands and are of course affected by it. Especially in Aemond's case. After all, his eye was cut out and his father's only concern was for Rhaenyra and it was Alicent who was the only one to defend him when he was maimed. Something like that is obviously going to have a huge impact on him. As for Aegon, there's a lot to unpack there but I don't think it can be blamed on Alicent. You seem to be relying on 'the seed is bad' idea.
I would argue that the main difference between Alicent and Hürrem is that the latter is afforded more agency by the show she's in. But both Alicent and Hürrem have an empathetic side. We see Alicent comfort Rhaenyra in the sept in the wake of Aemma's death. And her response to Dyana can be explained as both manipulating her into silence and her own kind of empathy for a fellow rape survivor. Both of them are the 'wicked stepmother' who gets villified in contrast to a rightful heir character. Both of them would put their own lives on the line for their kids. Both see in the succession a real threat towards their kids (Mustafa wouldn't hurt his brothers but his allies would, Rhaenyra may not want to hurt her half siblings but Daemon would have no qualms).
These are two messy morally grey women in comparable circumstances and your blind hatred for the one, anon, won't change that fact.

I ship Cole with Prue. They are both strong, bossy, opinionated and sarcastic. They both stand up for themselves and are very comfortable in their own skin. Even though they have their own fears and insecurities both feign total confidence. They are introverted, with a tendency to play lone wolf and both could be rather aggressive and ruthless in their own ways.
At the same time, they are very different. Prue follows the rules, Cole bends them. But Prue repeatedly fell in love with the bad guys over the course of the series. Cole is complicated and someone who can help Prue consider her life choices from another perspective. Prue is smart and mature enough to handle a relationship with Cole.
Phoebe acted a bit childishly when he was around. She took away from Cole the characteristic that made him so easy to love, his demonic half. No one wanted Cole to be evil but Phoebe pushed so hard for him to be good. She loved an idea of a beatiful lovestory rather than Cole himself and she didn't accept him as he was. Cole did lose a lot of himself in an effort to keep her love. His mind was clouded and he didn't realize they didn't fit together.
This wouldn't happen with Prue. He would have a tough time gaining her trust disguised as Cole Turner. Sarcastic remarks would heat up things between them. She certainly wouldn't put up with his evil deeds but Cole might want to change, not to meet somebody's expectations but because he wants it himself. Prue would treat him as an adult and hold him accountable for what he did. Unlike Phoebe who tried to justify him and was like "how dare you not fit into my idea of a perfect lover". Their relationship would be truly mature, passionate and angsty unlike dull and boring Phoebe x Cole.
It would also be interesting to see what Cole x Paige would look like.
