Something I haven’t seen people mention about Nope yet is Em and OJ’s use of the “Oprah shot”. Obviously Oprah is a famous TV star but also, she was the person who famously interviewed Charla Nash, the woman whose face was ripped apart by a chimp, inspiring the costume of Mary Jo at the Star Lasso. Oprah also was the first person to show Charla’s disfigured face, which she explains that reporters had been trying to secretly get photos of while she was still in the hospital recovering. Em and OJ want not only the first and high quality shot of an alien, but they don’t want to be the spectacle-raising paparazzi like the TMZ guy that shows up and the flock of reporters at the end.
