Not to undermine the message, because yes, especially locally, votes count - but the only reason they were able to avoid the veto-override was that a couple more Republicans changed their votes from when they originally passed the legislation.

So, actually this is more "vote and" adding to the message rather than undermining, because at least one of those Repubs said her changed vote was due to people in her district contacting her and urging her not to support the override. So vote AND contact your reps.

the thing is the king charles portrait is genuinely incredible and exactly how I would execute a portrait of a member of the british royal family but also I literally cannot fathom why the british royal family would have it made

like yeah if I were going to make a portrait of king charles I would absolutely have just his smugly smirking face leering out of a mass of red that could only be read as blood and gore, and have his military uniform fading ambiguously into the same background to lay bare the brutality of imperialism concealed by the pomp and ceremony of the british state, and make the entire thing sort of look like it was decaying to indicate the rot of the empire. like I really struggle to imagine a better visual metaphor for the nightmarish history of a dying empire than the king's spiffy military uniform and saber and sash and rows of epaulets being literally made out of a rotting field of blood and gore. but like why did he have it commissioned... why did he have it MADE and then say Looks great I'm putting it on the wall... HE EVEN LOOKS LIKE HE'S IN HELL

My grandfather and my godfather (a beloved neighbor and dear family friend) had a long standing bet- for one dollar- about who would die first. Both of them being slightly pessimistic (in the funny way), they both insisted that they themselves would be the first to die. Any time my grandfather had a health scare, he’d gleefully call up my godfather to boast that he’d be passing “any day now” and he was sure to win the bet. It was a big family joke and they were always amiably sparring and comparing notes about who was in worse shape, medically speaking.

When my grandfather was in hospice care dying of liver cancer, my godfather was quite ill also. It took him great effort to make the journey to see his dying friend. As he came into the room, supported by a family member, he shuffled to my grandpa’s bedside and silently handed him a dollar bill. He was ceding his loss of the bet, as they both knew who was going first. My grandpa had been in quite bad shape for a while and was no longer able to speak but let me tell you he snatched that dollar with unexpected strength and literally laughed aloud. He knew exactly what the gesture meant and he couldn’t help but find the humor within the grief. It was the last time any of us heard my grandpa laugh, as he passed shortly after.

When I talk about my appreciation for “dark humor” I’m not so much thinking about edgy jokes, but rather the human instinct to somehow, impossibly, both find and appreciate the absurdity that is so often folded into the profound grief of life and death. When I tell this story I think it kind of perturbs people sometimes, but it’s honestly one of my favorite memories about two men I really deeply admired. I could never hope for anything more than for my loved ones to remember me laughing until the very end, and taking joy in a little joke as one of my final acts.

15 years ago youtube videos were like two or three freshly graduated guys making mildly homophobic but also somewhat homoerotic comedy skits filmed in 480p on a digital camera gifted to them by god and now its all like 25 minute long videos that are like "THE DARK SIDE OF TINY TOONS"

My new favorite genre of picture is a very special thing that most animals (and humans!) do: face nuzzling as an act of greeting/comfort/intimacy. thank God that this is happening all over the world right now

Isn’t it wonderful?!

had to continue the compilation:

child (usually a girl) forced into stardom by parents -> beloved by all -> legally becomes an adult/finishes their disney or nickelodeon contract and acts out, as young adults do -> hated by all for acting "immature" -> comes out years later they were obviously facing abuse in their unwanted stardom during childhood and this was their first taste away from it -> wahh now everybody feels so bad for how they acted, again :( -> omg new child star we love her<3 ->

On Aging

I feel the slow failures, the creeaak and the pop

the hummm in my hips on a too-long walk

the wrist that weakens and droops and sways

the bungled up ankle as i hobble my way

My skin is all sagging, I lose all my charm

joint pain in my fingers that shoot up my arm

my hair is all greying, my knees sob and plea!

this is what happens... when you turn twenty-three
