this was supposed to be a personal rant blog but I discovered that other people are just as annoyed by the voltron fandom and now we're a cult

imagine what vld could have been if the writers had cared more about the story they were telling than their petty kindergarden-level pissing contest with a bunch of higher-ups at dreamworks

Avatar

im so tired of vld fans coming up with 179492 ways to turn the most carefree character in the show into a poor traumatised baby, while treating every other character's trauma like it's a silly joke or pretending character XY's mental illness is practically nonexistent

no but how much audacity and sheer entitlement do you have to have to tell people they need to stop posting their darkfic and porn fic and any other fic you don’t like to ao3 so you can have a safe space when ao3 was literally created as a safe space for writers to post their content without fear of it being randomly wiped out by pro-censorship assholes with an agenda like what has happened to plenty of other fic archives before?

“but a lot of us see ao3 as a safe space to get away from that kind of nasty content” - lol you can see the middle of a busy interstate as a safe space all you want too but that doesn’t mean that you get to walk into the road and scream at all the cars going by that they’re the ones infringing on your safe space either

ao3 is not, has never been, and will never be a site meant for nothing but children’s stories. you can “see it” like that as much as you want but there’s a difference between fiction and reality and that view of what ao3 is like is as fictional as the stories posted on it.

AO3 is a space for all kinds of content–that’s why there’s a rating system. That’s why there are tags. Use the tools you’re given, rather than whining that it doesn’t serve up the content you want tout suite.

People that try so hard to police other people’s work aren’t poor delicate flowers that just want a safe space, they are control freaks testing how many power do they have among others’ lives. So it’s useless to try and explain how AO3 tag system works, they don’t want to learn, they don’t have a real issue, because if they did they would actually LOOK at the tags. They just want to feel important and impose themselves on others.

none of you have any right to be mad at the writers for reducing acxa to keith’s love interest when you’ve all been reducing her to keith’s sister for over a year and a half

I really want to bring back LJ-era disclaimers so some people can get used to the statement “I do not own these characters”

Anonymous asked:

ahh sorry if this brings up shiiiit but what did shamus kelly do wrong?

he’s this really annoying journalist who has a really bad habit of capitalizing on the rabid, misplaced excitement of fans in order to get views and hits.

so like there was this silly joke in this interview with jeremy shada where shamus asked him “do lance’s milkshakes bring all the boys and ladies to the yard?” and jeremy, as a joke, was like yeah totally. but of course, in order to create hype for himself and get clicks on his article, goes and teases that portion of the interview out of context before it was released because he knew that it would get all the klance/bi!lance stans rabid. and it did. in a rather annoying way.

then of course he follows that up with his #LanceIsBi article. i’m not going to go into it, but essentially he was talking about the popularity of Bi!Lance in the context of needing more healthy bisexual representation in media while ignoring that most depictions of BiLance tend to be extremely biphobic and solely meant for the sake of building up a pairing and not representing a demographic. if you want to read a more in depth rebuttal of that article i wrote up a little something right around when it came out.

(he actually reached out to me after i wrote that article and tried to explain his viewpoint and why he wrote it the way he did but if you ask me i wasn’t particularly moved and my opinion on him and that article he wrote still stands).

but yeah, tl;dr: he’s kind of annoying and self-centered and i wouldn’t put any stock or importance into anything that man says.

hot take: people in discourse don’t have “bad reading comprehension”, what they have is a bad habit of purposefully misinterpreting the words of anyone who doesn’t agree with them to hell and back in order to con their way into “winning” arguments by making the people they’re debating look as irrational or monstrous as possible and making themselves and their own arguments look better by comparison.

there’s a major difference between someone who reads text and genuinely does not understand what is being said and someone who reads text with no intention of even trying to understand what is being said because it doesn’t subscribe to their already held world views, who then goes on to reduce the text to the worst possible interpretation of it they can imagine (no matter how much they have to reach to get there) and attack that interpretation rather than what’s actually being said.

Why is the 'all female warriors' trope so popular... I mean, I get it, but I also don't. It's meant to be empowering, I guess? Seeing women in leadership positions is pretty rare, but an army that consists of men and women and has a female leader who plays an important role in the story? Practically nonexistent.

Take Antiope, Okoye and Valkyrie for example: They're complex female characters with their own stories - that's great, we really do need more of those - and could kick any guy's ass in a fight without a doubt, yeah. But that's not my point. I want to see women leading armies because they're the most qualified to do the job, not because 'there are no men'.

Maybe I'm just being unnecessarily bitter. But I think it's something worth pointing out.

hey let’s get this straight. if you say you hate she1th because you think two asian men being together is too much like “yaoi” you are a flagrant fucking racist (and a fetishistic homophobic piece of shit!) and i don’t care that you’re 1/5 chinese bawwww or that you’ve “experienced oppression because of your white name uwu” and i sincerely fucking hope one day you learn to look at relationships outside of whatever the fuck you learned on this site because 18 is far too old to be acting a damn fool like this

sheith content is “yaoi-esque” because it’s about two asian characters? or is it because the asian side of the fandom prefers it to klance?  i guess asian men can’t date each other anymore because it’s too fetishistic sorry guys.

and sexualized? is that a joke? almost every piece of sheith art is them being ridiculously fluffy together.  just say you’re racist and trolling for anti followers because tumblr is your only source of social fulfillment and you have no other talent to help you get attention and go.
