In The End 🧡

One thing, I don't know why

It doesn't even matter how hard you try

Bucky had always thought that Natasha would be right by his side.

Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme

To explain in due time, all I know

They’d always been there for each other, even when Bucky was brainwashed and turned into the Winter Soldier, when he was twisted into the ultimate assassin, when he didn’t remember anything. But HYDRA could never fully erase her from his memory.

Bucky had always thought that they had all the time in the world.

So when Steve just shook his head when he asked about Natasha, his heart broke. She can’t be dead... he had reasoned. Natasha Romanoff wasn’t dead. He could still bring her back.

But the universe always had other plans, didn’t it?

Time is a valuable thing

Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings

From brainwashed assassins to agents to Avengers.

Natasha was the one thing that kept him grounded. He’d knew he had fallen in love with her, even if the time they spent together usually consisted of Natasha’s sensory deprivation while he beat her. Despite how HYDRA and the Red Room fought to turn them into nothing more than senseless machines, they remained human.

He was the Winter Soldier. The asset. The fist of HYDRA. The weapon. The killer. He had had no time to remember what it felt like to be human.

Natasha had taught him how to be human again.

She believed in him. She sat next to him after a rough nightmare. She would drop her fierce facade to give him a hug and tell him, “It’s okay”.

She was the one who gave him hope.

Bucky thought they had time.

Watch it count down to the end of the day

The clock ticks life away, it's so unreal

And yet, deep down, he knew. He knew he would lose. One way or another, the universe was never kind to him. He’d lost his parents, he’d lost Becca, he’d lost his memory, he’d lost his best friend. The stars had a plan for him, he knew that, but what was the point in that if he’d already lost everything he cared about? He had lost his family, but he really didn’t want to lose the person who was the closest thing he had to a family so soon.

Somehow, he knew he’d lose Natasha too.

And fate had finally caught up to him.

“Don’t they know we are still children inside, James?” Natasha asked Bucky as they were recovering in a cell after a mission. Her head was buried in her hands as she recounted the story of being taken away from her family all those years ago. Her red hair fell like a mop around her head, and she looked much older than 17. On the contrary, Bucky, though biologically 84, was still physically 28. He’d barely aged from the day he’d fallen from the freight car in 1945, spending nearly all his time in cryostasis. His hair was nearly shoulder-length, and his steel blues were tired and defeated. Natasha looked up at him, and Bucky inched closer hesitantly. Furrowing his brows at Nat’s question, he whispered, “They know, Natalia. They just don’t care. No one cares about us anymore.”

Bucky knew that the universe had abandoned him. It stripped him of everything he cared about. It stripped him of his sunshine. It stripped him of the one person who could make him smile even when he was feeling dark and empty. It stripped him of the one person who could calm him when he felt that gnawing feeling in his gut.

In HYDRA, Natasha had been his rock and pillar.

And Death had snatched her away.

As if she was nothing.

Didn't look out below

Watch the time go right out the window

All of Bucky’s emotions poured out of him at once. He missed Nat. He missed her smile. He missed her voice. He missed everything.

“I hate you, Shmidt! You’re the reason Nat’s gone! I hate you!” Bucky shouted to the air. He knew that on Vormir, the Red Skull was relishing in the loss of one of the Avengers, in the loss of Natalia Romanova. And Bucky hated it. He shook with sobs, with grief, with regret, with hatred.

I hate you...” he whispered, his voice hoarse to mask the tears.

Falling into an endless abyss, Bucky threw a rock into the river. He clenched the fist of his arm. He knew that she would be snatched away eventually. He'd always known.

But still, it hurt.

Heck, it hurt so much that it felt like there was fire running through his veins.

Tryin' to hold on, d-didn't even know

I wasted it all just to watch you go

The universe was taunting him.

It was waiting patiently, slowly depriving him of all he loved. And he hated it.

Bucky hated it when he had to return to reality. He hated the feeling when he woke up. Even soaking in the harsh nightmares of the night was better than facing the harsh reality of morning. And when he had the occasional good dream, it just hurt even more. It hurt so bad.

“I’m sorry,” Bucky whispered, looking at Natasha. Nat frowned slightly. “Why?” Bucky bit his lips nervously and replied, “Because I love you, Natalia. I don’t even remember anything each time they wipe me, but I always think about you. No matter what.” Nat moved over and leaned against Bucky’s shoulder. Her eyes twinkled at Bucky’s words. “I love you too, James.” Bucky smiled just a little before looking at his left arm sadly. “I miss the life I had,” he whispered. Nat nodded in agreement before looking straight into his eyes. “We’re gonna get out of here. And we’ll both get to live our lives,” she whispered. Bucky nodded, smiling just a little. “Yeah. That’ll be fun...” he replied, his voice barely audible.

“Please come back, Nat...” Bucky pleaded. He looked up to the sky, praying. “Please bring her back...” he whispered. Nat had sacrificed herself to bring him back. He felt like Atlas, forced to hold up the weight of the sky. Except the weight that he had to bear was so much more. Because he knew in his heart that there was nothing he could do. There was nothing that he could do.

What it meant to me will eventually be

A memory of a time when I tried so hard

“Hey, Nat?” Bucky whispered. “I know you can’t hear me. But I just can’t do this anymore. It hurts that you’re not right here, next to me.”

He took a deep breath, tears threatening to roll down his cheeks. “Why’d you sacrifice yourself for that stupid stone, Natalia? You didn’t even need to bring me or anyone else back. In the end, it doesn’t even matter. I came back, and I couldn’t find you. Because you were already gone. Because of that stone. It doesn’t even matter. Without you, I’m nothing. I can’t do this without you, Nat...” Bucky’s body was wracked with sobs as he spoke, clinging on to that fraying rope of hope. A hope that she could come back.

“I’m sorry, Natalia...” Bucky sobbed, looking towards the vast ocean. “I tried so hard, and got so far, but right now, it doesn’t even matter...” He bit his lips, a wave of loss washing over him. “Why’d you have to go?” His voice was heartbreaking, and his heart shattered into a million pieces. His panic had subsided, and the emotional fog had cleared. The loss was there - unavoidable.

I tried so hard, and got so far

But in the end, it doesn’t even matter

But as he sat there, he knew that Natasha was gone.

She was gone. And she wasn’t coming back. Ever.

I had to fall to lose it all

But it the end, it doesn’t even matter

HBC Ted Talk Tuesday!

I’m not really sure if I’m doing this right but I feel the need to talk about the fact that Sebastian Stan can be both a silly ray of sunshine and a “just wait until we get home and I fuck you into next year” kind of guy. And then there is everything in between; the soft boyfriend sweaters and even softer hair, sweet smiles, bow ties, and cookie crumble, etc.

I’ve included pictures to support my first claim. On the left we have silly ray of sunshine Seb and on the right we have “just wait until we get home” Seb. Enjoy💥

Thanks for listening to my teeny tiny Ted Talk. Hope you all enjoy your day💞
