Sweaters II
Summary: Reader spends most of her time with Pietro after joining the avengers
Pietro and Y/N spent all of their time together after that. Training, eating, sightseeing. Especially sightseeing. Y/N had spent her entire life living in the deepest parts of Libya, and watching her eyes light up with the New York lights took Pietro’s breath away. Despite her frigid powers, Y/N’s smile was warm and kind; and at the top of the Empire State Building, Pietro swore to himself that as long as he lived, he would make Y/F/N smile.
They both blurted at the same time. Pietro’s statement attracting more attention from both of them.
“What did you say?” Y/N smirked and tugged at the sleeves of Pietro’s sweater that she was wearing.
“I said ya lyublyu tebya.” He stated confidently this time.
Y/N loved how the words in his native tongue rolled smoother than in English. They were more natural to him, like Arabic was to her.
Pietro didn’t understand Arabic, just like Y/N didn’t understand Sokovian, but they understand the feelings that radiated off each other when they said it. How Y/N got warm and fuzzy inside, and Pietro’s mind slowed down just so he could live in this moment forever.
“We should really take you shopping.” Clint commented when Y/N and Pietro returned from the roof, noticing how she was once again wearing a jacket that belonged to Pietro’s.
“It’s cute, Clint.” Natasha nudged his shoulder as Pietro and Y/N passed them and headed to their now shared room. Both smiling at the ground as Natasha and Clint continued to talk.
Y/N was content with the relationships she was able to form with the Avengers. She especially loved the moments in the tower with them.
Father-Figure Steve was always subconsciously aware of Y/N’s lack of body heat and constantly reminded her to grab a jacket. And within seconds Pietro was up and down the stairs with a warm jacket of his. Little did Y/N know, Pietro would put on the jacket and quickly do some jumping jacks to warm up the jacket before he would run back down and give it to Y/N.
There were also the limited occasions in which someone else would offer Y/N a jacket of theirs that was already within their reach. Saying how it would save the trouble of having Pietro run up and down the stairs. This of course only angered Pietro as he growled at them before running up to retrieve a jacket. From then on, whenever they would leave the Tower Pietro would have a jacket wrapped around his waist, prepared to give it to Y/N in case she got colder than usual.
Then there were the mornings in which Y/N would wake up warmer than usual. Which was weird considering the fact that Pietro wasn’t in the bed next to her.
“Where is Pietro?” She would ask, walking into the kitchen part of the team was sitting in shorts and t-shirts with glasses of ice water.
“Your Speedster left on a mission, he turned up the heat in the whole tower so you wouldn’t be cold and threatened to hurt us if we turned it down,” Tony complained,” not like it’s my tower or anything, you know? But of course it is…cute…what he does for you.”
Y/N couldn’t help the smile that crept on her face, anxiously awaiting Pietro’s return so she could smile more and thank him for what he had done.
Her favorite moment in the tower by far had to be the night Pietro told her his plans for their future.
“I’m going to marry you one day, you know?”
“No I didn’t know. Please tell me more.” She sipped on the coffee he had made her.
“Well. I’m going to propose, during summer so you can wear a dress without being that cold. But the wedding will be in winter, that way you will be cold and I’ll have every reason to keep you warm.”
“And how long are you going to keep me waiting for this proposal.”
“Well, summer is fast approaching, printsessia.”
Pietro and Y/N lay cuddled in the bed, both lost in their own thoughts. Y/N giggled as she continued to replay the memories of everything Pietro had done for her.
“What? What is so funny?” Pietro smiled and looked down at her.
“When I left the tribe, I was worried I would not find my place with the Avengers. But I am so unbelievably happy here. I’m happy with you, Pietro.”
Pietro’s mind raced faster than his mouth could and he had no idea how to tell her all the things he wanted to say. He loved her unconditionally. Pietro Maximoff was completely, utterly, and stupidly in love with Y/F/N Y/L/N. And all he could do to show it was hold her tighter in his embrace.
“Avengers, assemble!” Steve’s loud voice boomed through the entire tower, causing Y/N and Pietro to leap out of bed.
Soon after, Tony’s voice called out jokingly, “And for the love of God, Y/N don’t make Pietro run up the stairs again. Grab a jacket.”
Y/N smirked while Pietro tossed her his signature black and white zip up. They raced hand in hand to the meeting room, quickly taking their seats next to Wanda as the rest of the team filed in.
“Ultron is in Sokovia with an army of robots. So gear up there is no time to lose. Three minutes..” Steve gave orders and everyone ran around the tower.
Y/N stood in her white and blue dress, staring out the window while Pietro finished putting his shirt on. He then grabbed the blue leather jacket and tossed it at Y/N taking her by surprise.
“Ya lyublyu tebya.” Pietro squeezed her hand as they stepped foot in Sokovia.
“ahbk ‘aydaan.” She smiled back, before dropping his hand as they each went opposite ways to fight. Pietro began evacuating the city, getting people out of there before the battle ensued.
Y/N did what she could but she would be of better help when the actual fighting began, which didn’t take long. The ground began elevating quickly, robots invading what was left of Sokovia. As soon as she saw the first wave coming, Y/N jumped into action. She broke a fire hydrant with her foot, wetting her hands in the gushing water and aiming at the robots, attacking them with shards of ice. Others she completely drenched in water, freezing them quickly.
In a blur, she was at the church, fighting alongside the whole team as they all tried to defend it from the Robots.
It didn’t take long for shield to bring in lifeboats, everyone except for Wanda helped the civilians board.
“That’s everyone.” Steve announced over the coms.
“Not quite.” Clint muttered as he ran off to save a little boy that had been left behind.
Pietro saw it before Clint did. The jet was shooting bullets ferociously and Clint was directly in the line of fire.
“I’ll be right back.” He squeezed Y/N’s hand before running towards Clint.
It all happened too fast for Y/N to register. One second he was directly in front of her, the next he was 20 meters away, red now seeping through his blue uniform.
Y/N screamed in agony, running full force toward Pietro.
His body slumped on the ground, his eyes losing the sparkle in them. Y/N dropped to her knees next to him, already sobbing as she touched his cheek.
“I’m cold,” he weakly smiled at her,” you’ve rubbed off on me, printsessa.”
She painfully smiled, mentally cursing him for trying to pull a joke at a time like this. She laid her head on his chest, feeling the last bits of warmth escape him.
He spoke out again, his voice now weaker and more hoarse than she had ever heard before.
“I was going to save this for our wedding day, but I think now may be the only time I get to tell you this.”
“You never even proposed, dummy. Don’t waste your energy, okay? You’ll have plenty of time to express your love on our wedding day.”
Y/N couldn’t feel breathing. Pietro wasn’t even warm anymore. Her Icy hands turning him colder by the second, and painfully she retracted her hands and sat by his side.
“Pietro- ya lyublyu tebya.”
Captain America ran to them, picking up Pietro’s body and helping Y/N off her knees and walking her to the last lifeboat. Pietro was laid on the boat, Clint collapsing on the seats next to him. Y/N was about to set foot on the boat, when she caught sight of Pietro’s hand poking from behind the body of a civilian. What she had refused to acknowledge earlier now hit her like a ton of bricks. She slammed her knees on the dirt, freezing the patch beneath her. At the exact same time, the flying city collapsed. Captain America’s reflexes forced him to jump onto the boat before he could grab Y/N. He heard her scream, and the path of ice grew in all directions as white mist exploded from every inch of her body.
“Someone save Y/N, she didn’t make it onto the boat!” He screamed into the coms, sighing in relief as he watched Thor pick her up.
Months went by without sight of Y/N. The Avengers knew she was in the tower, specifically in Pietro’s room. They all took turns leaving food at the door, sometimes even clothes.
Wanda recovered much earlier than Y/N, having taken out her revenge in Ultron.
But no matter how much Y/N wanted to blame someone- Clint- she wouldn’t.
Unknowingly, Y/N finally left the room the first day of summer. She migrated to her room, where she showered and dressed in her own clothes for the first time. A yellow sundress, unbeknownst to her, the exact one Pietro pictured her wearing when he proposed.
“Y/N!” Steve called out to her when she showed up at the doors of the gym.
“Thank you all, for the kind treatment as I mourned. I would like to resume my training now.” She spoke sternly, almost bitterly as she straightened out her dress.
“That’s good to hear, kid. Go get a jacket and we’ll get started.”
Y/N stood there, waiting. But this time, there was no blue streak, no gust of wind. Just cold, dead silence. And Y/N wasn’t sure if Steve noticed or not, but it would have taken much longer for her to get a jacket than it would’ve taken Pietro. Besides, she didn’t own a jacket.
