➤ BIOGRAPHY

There’s insanity and there’s Scott. Both can easily be used in the same sentence. This is the story of Scott Landenberg. Scott was born as the son of a duke, a title that was passed onto him, a man with many old beliefs and superstitions, while his mother was sweet. His mother never stood a change against his father, all she could do was watch while her husband tried to mold their son into some kind of picture of perfection.
This is what Scott was for a long time as he didn’t know any better, a perfectly mannered boy who never stepped out of line, not that he would dare to anyway. But like any child, Scott grew older and even though it was late, his puberty hit inevitably. His father didn’t like it but Scott was rebelling, loving not having to do as told for once and just go against everything as he took every opportunity to go out and party. His father watched him change into a young man and didn’t like what he saw, in his eyes there was something terribly wrong with his now 19 year old son. While Scott was being a teenager becoming an adult, his father had convinced himself his son was either insane or that he was possessed by a demon or the devil himself.
The day everything changed was the day before his 20th birthday. His mother had begged her husband not to go through with the plan he had for his son, being convinced that he was saving Scott even though the young man didn’t need any kind of saving. That day he was going to look at a venue to have his birthday party, or so he thought. The moment he stepped into the building, everything turned black, he felt people take a hold of him and a black cotton bag had been placed over his head. Scott tried to remain calm, this had to be a kidnapping and surely rescue would come soon. As soon as something hit his head he passed out.
When he awoke again he found himself in a bright white padded room with a man standing in front of him, telling him he was his Doctor. Scott tried to explain he didn’t need help, he needed to go home, but he was soon explained his father had put him here to get better, as he called it. He tried to fight it all he could, but soon enough days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. Though he was perfectly sane before being brought there, his mind started to change over time. Every so often other patients, or so he thought anyway, were allowed at night into his room, taking full advantage of him in every way possible. Every time it happened, he tried to report it, but every time he was told it was all in his head and the injuries he had were self-inflicted. The more it happened the more he started to believe it.
The months were turning into years and Scott talked to himself as he had no one else to talk to, a trait he still has this day, discussions that usually happen in someones mind, he speaks out, usually in a whisper. One day the doors finally opened, it was close to his 27th birthday and an aged version of his mother was standing there. At first he thought it was an illusion, but to his relief it was really her. His father had passed away and his mother came to get her son out of the hell her husband had placed him in. Scott had to get used to normal life again, but his beliefs had changed, to him forcing others to do things he wanted them to do was normal, as it was done to him as well.
Most of the things he likes are linked to what he has been through. His mother took care of him and helped him to get a reasonably normal view of the world again, but he couldn’t control his needs to control other people. Often he’d run out of the house and hit the town, to get drunk, fuck and stop his mind from changing all the time. One night that didn’t play out as well as usually. The woman was beautiful that he had met, it didn’t take much for her to have him wrapped around her finger. There isn’t much he remembered of that night, nor the days that followed. What he did remember was waking up and feeling a hunger unlike any he had felt before in his life and the woman being there to provide him with the blood he craved. Soon he learned what he had become, a creature of the night with an appetite for blood. As years passed by he tried to live as normal as he could manage with his mind still quite scrambled at times.
For a long while he took on a job as Musical Composition Professor at The Institute, something he loved but his mind got the best of him so he had to leave. Scott hated going away, leaving his claim behind but it was for the best at the time. Leave to try and fight that other side of him, yet mostly losing that battle. Now that he feels in control again, he re-applied for the position as he knew he was good at what he did. The only question that remains is which side of him is now in control, the side that cares or the side that only cares for himself?

The first spawn meant something. Clara honestly doubted that this was a random decision brought about in the heat of a moment. Certainly it was lucky that the slave had survived, but the fact that they were now tied to Scott meant that there was a deeper connection that Clara didn't know about. "Yet it was successful this time."

The blonde pulled Scott into an embrace. He'd been through so much as a human and then vampire. He found a unique way to cope with everything, but that didn't make it any less bittersweet for all that he'd survived. A smirk played on her lips as she pulled away. "That's because he knows I'd kick his ass. I'd heal you and Sonya of course, but the Other would still feel my wrath." It was only partly a joke. There was something special regarding the way that he was kinder to her than all others. "It steams from you, darling. He is a part of you just as much as you are a part of him."

"It was. " Success or not, he didn't feel very much like celebrating it in any way. In his mind he had failed to stop The Other while he should have. Scott was surprised by the sudden embrace but accepted it, only then noticing he had needed that. That was until he felt The Other stir too much, so he had to pull back again. "Guess he has a jealous side..." He muttered with a little chuckle.

"He isn't afraid of you kicking his ass, he's never been afraid of anything until... now." Scott looked a little puzzled, never having gotten these vibes from The Other before, then again had his alter ever really cared about anyone but himself? Not before he had met her , that was for sure. "He was yes, but he's his own person now, just like Sonya is." Sonya was just a lot easier to deal with as she handled herself with grace. "Do you need anything?" He suddenly asked. "I can get you coffee or something?" Scott looked around, seeing there was at least a little supply of that around.

“I heard you coming,” he said, voice heavy.  The island was totally destroyed and a lot of his favorite spots didn’t survive - the beach bar, not that he could get drunk now anyway, the lounge with the pool tables, even his job.  He knew he should be helping people repair, trying to do some good, but being around people was really difficult.  He was at the water, hoping the white noise of the waves would drown other things out - it wasn’t working.  He heard every bird chirping, every bug buzzing, every twig snapping, particularly the one the person behind him stepped on.  His feet dug into the sand, the waves casually rolling in, wetting his shorts and toes, his reusable water bottle of blood next to him sinking further into the ground from the ocean.  Atticus’s emotions have been all over the place since he got turned and he could feel a pressure behind his eyes again, even when his fingers pinched his nose to try to block it - the last thing he wanted was to be at all vulnerable in front of someone else.  “There’s gotta be other sections of the beach you can go to, alright, I should probably be alone.”  Or I’ll hurt someone, he thought. @the-institute-starters

"I know, you probably felt me coming too." Sonya's voice was soft, soothing in a way as she had watched the boy from a distance. In a way she felt guilty, even if she hadn't been the one changing him, she was now one of his makers. Even if she had done everything she could, sometimes the rage of The Other couldn't be stopped and it was sad it had come to this. "No. You shouldn't be alone." She said as she walked up to him and sat down in the sand next to him. "You won't hurt me, though you'd probably have every right to do so."she sighed and moved a caring arm around him. "I could tell you I'm sorry for what happened but I know it wouldn't make it better. I tried to claw my way out, but he was too strong. I cried, I screamed but I couldn't break out and I wish I had succeeded." She knew words wouldn't make anything better but she needed to have it said. "However, what I can do is help you as best as I can to adjust to... this new life. Because in a way that's what it is, a new life, a new start. I'm not gonna tell you it's all easy and a walk in the park because it's not, but I'm here every step of the way if you need it."

Now that was interesting. She knew about the blood exchange. While Clara was not certain about how much blood needed to be taken nor given, the fact was that third step was deliberate. "Has he ever made another? It sounds like a vampire can only be made with a deliberate decision." The Other controlled himself around Clara, but from wagging tongues, it was either a torment to the student that he turned or a kindness to give his victim eternal life. She certainly doubted it was of self-preservation given that Scott would be in trouble no matter if the grant student lived or died. She winced, clearing her throat. "He has made it quite clear that there are appetites he likes to indulge in."

"Can't or won't?" She knew that The Other was kept in check more than Scott or Sonya. She knew the reason for that, yet she couldn't help but wonder if being kept within was part of the reason that he acted out. "I hate to say it, but you need to let out some of that anger. Obviously not in the way that The Other has, but in a healthy way. When it is left to fester, it is destructive to every part of you and the people around you. He is your survival instinct trying to preserve you."

Scott shook his head. "Never turned anyone, I never wanted to and until now he respected that. Turning isn't an exact science, it's like a lottery and most die." In a way the slave was lucky but at the same time not at all. Scott never wanted to turn anyone, especially not against their own will as had happened to him himself back in the day.

"Can't. He was created out of my own anger when I was still human, an alter ego, a darkness inside me at the time. When I was turned he became his own person, immortalized as he is. I have seen he's trying though, mostly around you actually which is new. If I keep him locked away for too long, his anger grows until it can't be held back anymore and that's pretty much what happened. I became selfish, needing more time and keeping him away for too long." Scott sighed, selfblame was always his downfall. "Was my survival instinct, yeah. Now he is just who he is."

[text] The other day. His dad's sick so he left to take care of him.

[text] No... Can you come over please?

[text.] understandable, hope it'll be ok.

[text.] I'll be right there.

Scott wasn't surprised about her answer so he picked up his coat and headed out to go and see her at her home. It was strange to think there would be Daisy without her Dhani around but he knew she'd be fine in the end. Only when he arrived, he realized he hadn't even visited her since she got her new place. Even the outside though looked typically Daisy-like. He announced his arrival with a subtle knock on the door. "Kitten? It's me."

It was little wonder why The Other easily could lure a person in. He'd confided that he often took what he desired, yet it must be so easy to get someone to trust him when Scott had such a comforting air. He was the sort that wanted to the right thing, which made his plight all the more tragic. Clara wondered what might happen were the three separated, but she had an inkling that one aspect of Scott would always help the other. They were all part of the same person.

Clara raised her eyebrow. "I might not know you, but I know men. I can tell when they are lying." Clearly he needed to get whatever happened out there off of his chest. She'd be patient and listen as best as she could. "Forgive me, but I don't know much about the vampiric process. What does turning entail?" She wondered if this meant that the new vampire would be bound to Scott or The Other. "He does need to work on his temper." She reached out, placing her hand atop his. "But Darling, this isn't your fault. I've seen countless deaths, and although he might not have wished to be turned, he isn't dead yet. The past cannot be undone, but it is a new start for The Other to take responsibility for his actions."

Though The Other was part of him, created out of his own anger, Scott hated not having control over him at all times. This was one of those times. The main reason why The Other had never gotten a name of his own, in a way Scott feared him. He glanced aside at her question. "Draining of blood, feeding blood and bury the body. Sometimes they turn and come up again, often they don't. He fucked him first, I spare you the gory details on that." He mused, mostly because he didn't even want to think of what The Other had done to the boy before turning him. When The Other lost control, he became a downright monster in Scott's eyes.

He slowly nodded, keeping his hand where it was, feeling the warmth of her hand, though he couldn't help but flinch as he felt the jealous side of The Other inside. His alter definitely didn't like her touching Scott, but Scott didn't care and ignored him. "He can't work on that. He embodies my anger from centuries ago, building up over my human life and when I got turned, The Other fully manifested for the first time because I refused to feed. It's because of him that I became a vampire as I would've chosen death." He shrugged a little, glancing towards Atticus who was sitting on the other side of the room. "I do what I can though to help."

Someone whispered:

Atticus barely had self control as a human, what’s going to happen now that he’s turned? Will Scott be punished at all?

"Technically he won't need selfcontrol as I'm in control if and when needed." Chuckles a bit. "If I am to be punished, I will take full responsibility for what The Other has done and accept all that comes with it."

She smiled, realizing just how much Scott's personalities acted almost like siblings to one another. It was sweet. She'd have to remember to call drop that little y at the end in future discussions. "It is everything. Many would be concerned with their own safety rather than that of those around them. Thank you, darling." The nurse pressed a kiss to his cheek. She already knew how she was going to use these supplies.

The blonde raised a brow at that. She knew that the Other had a habit of misbehaving, but this was something new. He had to have done something rather serious to have his privileges revoked- to have Scott deny freedom to a part of himself. "Well I am here if you would like to talk." Just for a few more minutes, Clara allocated herself a rest before going back to checking on all the others. "My phone died ages ago. My magic is almost depleted as well."

"You're very welcome." Scott smiled to the kiss to his cheek but he could sense it made The Other stir inside. Jealousy perhaps, he wasn't sure and he wasn't going to check. At least right now he could help out, even if just a little. Sure, he knew he would be in trouble when all this was happening, that was usually the problem with The Other doing things he wasn't supposed to do, Scott himself would pay the price.

Scott sat down on a nearby chair, pulling the last bag of blood he had on him from his coat pocket to have a sip but being careful with it as he had no idea how long it would have to last. "Not much to talk about." He said, though it dawned on him that soon enough everyone would know anyway. "He killed someone, or well, turned them. A slave, because he was angry and the slave was in the wrong place at the wrong time." He mused while his eyes were on the floor. "I couldn't stop him, when anger takes over, he becomes too strong, so I did what I could when I could take over again."

Noting the actual helpfulness and lack of smirk, Clara smiled at the man. "You must be Scotty then." It wasn't all that difficult to tell which part of Scott was in control at any given moment once a person got to know him. "Honestly you are an angel for bringing these." She moved a stray lock of hair behind her ears. "It will help many." She'd done as much as she could with what she had one hand, but her magic and medical stock was depleted along with much of her energy.

"Tell that other part of you that he can have a nibble later, if he behaves himself." Better her he bite than someone who couldn't stand to lose more blood. "Honestly, this is amazing, Darling. Clean bandages make all the difference, and the patients in pain are going to be singing your praises for the pain reliever. I don't suppose you have a flashlight in that bag of tricks by chance."

Scott chuckled, slightly nodding at that. "Scott will do. Though I know The Other refers to me as Scotty." He winced a little as he could definitely feel him stirring in his mind now that he was near Clara but there was no way he'd willingly let him out after what had happened. "You're welcome. Like I said, it's not much but I grabbed what I could." Which had been hard enough to do while also keeping an eye on the newborn vamp that was with him.

"Sorry, but no, can't tell him that. Let's just say he's on lockdown right now for as long as I can manage." Scott tried to sound as normal as he could manage, but he was a hint of sadness could be heard in his voice which he couldn't help. IT sucked having to hold The Other back again, especially when he knew this woman actually seemed to have a good influence on him. "Unfortunately no flashlight no, maybe use your phone light? Unless your battery is dead too. Mine is. But if you need anyone moved , I can help, whatever you need."

Kitten.. Oh how she had missed that word, whispered from his lips! It had once given her the courage to face anything and it still held that power. "I know..I know. At least you're here. And Dhani's here. I can't find Dakota though!" Daisy tried to not start to panic again but it was nearly impossible, even with Scott's strong and sure presence. If she didn't know where her best friend was and if they were really okay, how could she possibly try to relax? Just then something happened though that managed to pull her focus completely away from her own worries and on to Scott and Scott alone. The way that he held his head, the distance he put between them. That distracted mumble. She had not lived with and loved him for as long as she had to not know what that meant. "Scott, what is it? Are..they..bothering you?" Scott would know who she meant. Sonya was always Sonya, someone she trusted and adored. But The Other? That was a different story. "Tell me.. I know, I can tell. I remember"

Image

"It's ok... There are more places used as a shelter right now, if Dakota isn't here, then they are surely at one of the other ones." Scott assured her and he hoped he was right about that, no one could be sure who was safe and who wasn't at this point. Scott looked away when she spoke. "I'm not doing... too good." Hell, that was putting it mildly. "The Other, he's done something yesterday, and it was bad. I need to hold him back." He mumbled under his breath as his hand twitched, he could hear the voice in his head all too clear. "Don't worry Scotty, I wouldn't turn her, she would just be dead..." Scott ignored it, reacting to it only made things worse after all. Inhaling deeply, he collected himself again. "He's strong but I'm stronger right now at least. Let's get something to eat now, ok?"

Lights out // Scott and Clara

She itched for a cigarette. She'd only smoked very briefly in a time when doing so was considered good for one's health. The initial pop had been the only warning before the entire library was plunged into darkness. Having a lighter would have helped her see more than the occasional blinding flash of lightening or the dim glow of the burning embers that once made up campus housing. Magic might have been an option were there not the worry of it going wrong yet again. This did all start with a spell being broken causing havoc for all the magical inhabitants. She would have said that she was lucky to be in the library where she could escape into a book, but not even that could help.

Hearing the footsteps coming closer, Clara leaned her head against the bookshelf. "I don't have the same supplies as I would at the clinic, darling. If you need to be healed up from whatever you ran into on the way here or by walking into the furniture, we are going to have to improvise." She turned her head, seeing someone now towering over her place on the floor. "Never mind. You self-heal. I don't think there is anything that I can do to help."

Scott was moving around the make-shift shelter, he was in control of himself as much as he could because he had no choice right now. Yet he could feel The Other stir when he saw a familiar face. "Oh, no you don't." He mumbled to himself as he moved closer, holding a bag in his hand.

"I don't need help, no, I'm just seeing if you do. It's not much but I grabbed what I could from home." Scott held out the bag that he had stuffed with what he had at home from first-aid kits. Bandages, plasters, some painkillers. It wasn't much but maybe it would help. "Is there anything I can do?" He said as he flinched a little at her scent as it made The Other want to come out more.

Daisy sighed, finally closing the book that was in her hand. She had been trying to read it for who even knew how long now and hadn't even turned the page in at least half an hour. Dhani (who had thankfully been assigned to the library as well) had gone to try and find better reception to text his friends. Leaving her at her spot by the door, trying her best to not panic as she watched the faces of people still trickling in. At least Violet and Lily and Alfie weren't here. As heartbroken as she had been to see her family leave, she was now grateful that they weren't around to be caught in whatever was happening to them. But oh..how she missed them! Swallowing hard, Daisy pushed her unkempt hair from her face, as an all too familiar figure approached her. "Scott!" She cried, flinging herself at him just as she always had. Thank god he was there too! "Can..you just hold me for a minute please? Then I'll eat something I promise! I'm just so scared..and so glad that you're here.."

The second she hugged him, he froze for a moment, forcing himself to hug her back. Hell, a hug was welcome but he didn't trust himself right now. The previous day had proven he didn't have as much control of himself as he had thought he did. "It's ok, kitten, it'll be ok." He said though he didn't believe that much himself right now. "Maybe I should kill her too, would you like that, Scotty?" Words and laughter sounded in his head which made him abruptly pull away from her, holding his head. "Let's get something to eat." He mumbled as he turned away towards the provision stand, unsure if she knew what he, or The Other, had done. If not then he knew word would spread soon enough.

Locked down || Scott & Atticus

Locked down, maybe it was for the best after what had happened as he had The Other under lockdown now as much as he could manage, which wasn't easy to do. Having brought Atticus to the Library, where they'd be staying, he'd have preferred his home where there were no potential victims around as the binding spell seemed to have hiccups. No one seemed to know yet what had happened between Atticus and The Other and maybe that was a good thing. At least now Scott was in control as it was needed. As they entered the building, Scott turned Atticus around to look him straight in the eyes. "I command you not to feed from anyone, if you're hungry, which I know you will be, you'll take a bag." This would at least keep anyone here safe, safe from an unruly newborn.
