1x09, part 3.

I'm so sad for him. He would literally forgive her ANYTHING.

He's TERRIFIED at the idea of losing her. And he's so right, Vi can't bring back Powder. It was so obvious when Jinx lit a fire & Vi got a taste of what Jinx is like these days. Vi wouldn't be able to control her, nor would she be able to love her when she's like this. The problem is, it IS her nowadays. There is no Powder anymore. It's such a fucking tragedy that Silco dies.

Honestly, say it, Silco. V is into Caitlyn now way more than she is into Jinx. Actually, she's not into Jinx at all. Again, there is NO Powder. Every time Vi calls her that, I cringe. I can't stand that name, it's simply not her. Just like Silco says, "that girl does not exist anymore".

And it's only them, you see? And she's his daughter, you see? ;______; The way he loves her, help. ;___; The look he gives her. It doesn't fucking matter she kidnapped him and tied him up and gagged him, he doesn't fucking care, he only wants her and he wants her to stay with him. ;_____; All the walls around him fall apart for her sake. He's the most vulnerable with her.

"I'll never forsake you." The voice acting. The animation. I feel unwell.

Gods, he's so scared she will leave him. So confused about her dropping her gun.

He's like a caged animal when he grabs Jinx's gun. Vi only made it worse for Jinx. But yeah, just like Jinx said, it's up to Vi if she gets Jinx or Powder, and Vi's shouting and SIlco's death sealed the deal.

She really caresses behind his ear as he's bleeding out. Oh, the fucking tragedy. ;___;

"Don't cry. You're perfect." FUCK OFFFFF. The pain is real and I am feeling it. Like, no stills or gifs can truly makes you feel the same if you don't remember the tone of his voice, the feelings in his voice.

"I hope you know we had everything, When you broke me and left these pieces."

Honestly, the difference between Jinx getting Vander killed and Jinx getting Silco killed is that Vi means it and she leaves her. Yes, they were kids, full stop. She gave into those emotions, though. For the moment, she hated Jinx & she meant it. She can never love Jinx.

Jinx kills Silco? He tells her not to cry. He tells her JINX is perfect. She kills him and yet, she's his entire word. "I'll never forsake you. <...> I never would have given you to them. Not for anything." and he MEANS it. As he bleeds out while she holds his face, he tells her not to cry and that she's PERFECT.

"'Cause I, I was meant to be yours."

Yeah, they can all burn, indeed.

V is so confused because how can her sister feel all those feelings for Silco? How can she cry for him? He's a monster, he deserved to die, didn't he? Yeah, she just doesn't understand. Fuck. (breaks down) I love Silco so much.

"Even though I'm different." That's exactly the problem. Vi can't love her as she is now. Silco could. He did.

I'm going to miss him so much.

I hope she doesn't die in s2 (or turns into something that's completely unrecognizable). I really fucking hope so. ;____; And man, Silco is so beautiful. Was? Anyway.

She's alive! My girl is alive! Maybe she'll take over the undercity without Silco? "What we could've been." right when they focus on her and Silco's empty chair. Gods. I'm hurting. The song at the end is absolutely perfect and I can't stop crying.

Oh, Ekko found himself a friend. Oh, what could've been, indeed. This is such a great alliance because Ekko is somewhat a scientist himself and he's open-minded and he has nothing to gain, so he gladly shares about his experience with Heimerdinger.

The animation is incredible. And Vi still chooses Caitlyn over Jinx. Like I said she would. :(

Even Viktor looks hopeful. Season 2, "Devastating"? "No one is going to be happy after watching it"? Oh, they're going to break me.

I feel like im watching a wedding ceremony from a country i didnt know existed. Like, I have no idea how all this stuff is important but good for you?????

This is hella interesting.

btw she gave him a single which can be made in a matter of minute depending on pattern and size but he gave her a giant cuff which can take hours or even more than a day to complete based on just how complex the design and materials are. she wanted to trade something small and simple and he gave her a massive token of his love and respect for her as a fellow raver (and possibly his junior in the scene)

Gortash scolding Karlach for not “seizing power” in Avernus in Zariel’s court speaks volumes to me. Like he convinced himself he gave her a chance to be “more” than she was.

Similar to how he was traded to a warlock and ended up at Raphael’s HoH, learning about the Crown of Karsus there. He knows his parents were horrible (seeing as he tadpoles them) but their betrayal, his fate as a prisoner of Raphael, is something he hasn’t processed and instead filed under: “I made the best out of a horrible situation”.

Come to think of it, the fact that Gortash is explicitly listed as a prisoner that “escaped” from Raphael is relevant too. Raphael doesn’t really keep children prisoners. Look at Mol: Mol isn’t forced to stay in the HoH. Korilla was given a choice. So was Hope. Only those that defy Raphael so openly and that he truly cares about suffer the fate of being his prisoners. Raphael prefers to utilize their skills, and Gortash was nothing if not talented and ambitious.

I think little Enver did not want to bend. Did not want to be a servant, no matter how autonomous. I guess the hunger for power was always there, and when his parents betrayed him, that just shot up to a million, making him refuse Raphael almost out of spite.

So instead he made plans to escape. And executed them. Successfully. He came out of that situation stronger (or so he thinks, ignoring the emotionally stunted growth he had).

Him selling out Karlach is a consequence of all that. He knows it’s the ultimate betrayal. But similar to how Durge had something good in them despite their upbringing, so did Gortash – and that part of him speaks in that scene. It’s so loudly telling Karlach she should have seized power because that’s the only way to assuage the guilt. He was giving her a chance, you see? To be more. To share his fate. To rise beyond.

Imagine Karlach taking down Zariel. Potentially ruling the first Hell, the realm that houses Raphael’s HoH no less. Imagine Gortash ruling over Faerûn with Karlach ruling the Hells. They would have been glorious. His friend, ascended, bonded by the same trauma. A cycle of abuse repeating endlessly. No wonder he is angry. No wonder he despises her for not “rising” beyond her fate.

Karlach is the living, breathing example of clinging to love and hope despite the betrayal, despite the trauma. She is the living, breathing reminder that he could, too.

Something I love about confronting Cazador is how he obviously never processes that Astarion has friends until it's too late.

Petras and Dalyria must have mentioned that Astarion wasn't alone when they met him, but when you read Cazador's journal? He's 100% fixated on Astarion. How Astarion stood in the sun, how Astarion was willing and able to disobey him. And when Astarion shows up, Cazador barely acknowledges the party at all - and sure, that's partly because this is Astarion's moment in the narrative, but Cazador doesn't so much as ask why these random strangers are there! They're not part of his plans, so they don't exist.

And then they immediately save his errant spawn from the ritual and start beating his ass.

Just. What must have been going through Cazador's head when that fight starting turning against him? 'Is that... the Blade of Frontiers? Why is a monster hunter - and is that a cleric? - helping a vampire spawn? An undead? Ah, but they must be treating it as a necessary evil to have a chance to slay me, of course - hold on, why is the cleric healing Astarion? Why does that wizard keep Counterspelling everything I'm casting at Astarion, why waste the spells when I'm not even targeting him? Did... did that druid just cast Daylight on Astarion's weapons? And that brute of a tiefling - that's not just disgust in her eye when she looks at me, it's fury - and she keeps putting herself in front of Astarion, why in the hells would she - she's running right at me- '

I hope that one of the last things Cazador ever knew was the choking realisation that Astarion didn't just come back strong, or free. Astarion came back loved.

"gale is too good aligned to get along with astarion-" if you play the dark urge and get the scene in act 2 where you literally try to murder him he fucking tells you "at least there's plenty of enemies out there for you to kill! a feast for the violent at heart :)" entirely fucking unphased. you cannot tell me he would give a shit if astarion straight up started eating people as long as there was some vague reason for it. he's literally straight up telling you as long as it's aimed at foes and not friends he doesn't care if you engage in gleeful butchery for crying out loud

One thing that sets The Menu apart from the other recent anti-capitalist movies is that the working-class heroine gets no big reward in the end for surviving the events of the movie. The heroine from Ready or Not (presumably) inherited the family fortune. The heroine from Knives Out inherited her boss’s mansion and fortune. The heroine from The Menu got…a real good cheeseburger. Then she will go home, sleep, and wake up and meet with her next clients as an escort the very next day. She doesn’t have the time or resources to heal from what happened to her.

It’s the most real outcome for that kind of protagonist. Experience trauma, brush it off, go straight back to work.
