Sweetheart- Chapter 1

Summary: Jason Todd finds himself in a Groundhog Day situation and it won't stop until he finds his soulmate who's going through the exact same situation. But will you two stop being idiots long enough to too see what's in front of you? Not even the author knows...

Reader and Jason Todd have to repeat the same day until they realise they're soulmates, but once they do so, a soulmate mark will appear and their lives continue

Disclaimer: I know very little of the DC Universe (having never watched/read any of the movies/comics...) so please feel free to correct me on shit, but again, I took liberties with the ages and jobs (like, I know the majority of the Wayne kids aren't high school age and Bruce would never hand his job off, but I will stab canon until the pages of this fanfic run red with its blood)

Principal Gordon sighed and leaned back in his chair. “What is it now, Todd?”

Jason shrugged. “I have absolutely no idea. Mr. Queen just doesn’t like me.”

“Or is it that you were being disruptive in his class and harassing Ms. L/n?” Principal Gordon raised a brow.

Jason chuckled and crossed his arms. “Harassing her? I wouldn’t call it harassing. Just some harmless flirting.”

“Mr. Queen said you were throwing crumpled pieces of paper at her that had inappropriate pick-up lines written on them,” Principal Gordon said. “You also disturbed Mr. Allen and Ms. Grace?”

“Mom, there’s someone under the bed.” You bend down and see your son there instead and he whispers “Mom that’s not me up there!” You take a step back when someone tugs your shirt. You turn, your son is in the closet asking “who are they?” You suddenly hear him calling from downstairs “Mommy?”

You sigh, raising your voice so that all of your sons can hear you. “All right, everyone into the kitchen. Now.” Hearing a shuffle in the attic, you add, “Yes, Duncan, that includes you.”

You don’t see any movement as you go down the stairs, but you’re used to that. You know they’ll all be there by the time you walk through the kitchen door.

As usual, your children have all fitted themselves into the kitchen. The dimensions of the room are a little wobbly with so many of them present, but you’ve long ago learned to ignore how the laws of physics only occasionally apply to them. A host of little faces look up at you anxiously, and you smile gently.

“It’s okay, none of you are in trouble,” you reassure them. They relax - and how astonishing is it, that they trust you so much? You’re so proud of their progress.

One, however, still looks nervous. You beckon him forward, and he comes reluctantly, shoved by his identical older brothers.

“Are you new?” you ask carefully.

He nods, and you drop to one knee. “It’s okay, sweetie,” you tell him firmly. “I love all of my sons, even ones I haven’t met before. Ask your brothers, they’ll tell you.”

“’m here because I heard you were nice,” he says in a tiny voice.

You open your arms, offering a hug but waiting to let him decide whether he wants one. This child must have seen hugs before, because he flings himself into your arms and starts crying. That’s good. Some of your sons are traumatised from what they’ve seen, knowing more slaps than kisses.

Eventually, the sobs dry up, your other kids patiently waiting for your attention again. “Why do we look like this?” he asks, curious.

“Because this is what the first of you looked like - Wilson, where are you?”

A hand raises from the crowd and waves energetically.

“Wilson took on my son’s form to play Child or Double. Calling from downstairs when my son was in bed, getting tucked in when the child I bore was playing out in the garden. Once I figured it out, I hugged him and told him that as far as I was concerned, I now had twins. It took him some time before he believed me.”

Wilson shrugs unrepentantly.

“When my son died, Wilson stayed. It helped, having one of my sons with me while I grieved. Then another of you began to turn up, and I had twins again. Then more. Until now, when I have more of you than will technically fit in my kitchen.” You give your sons a look of motherly disapproval, but they only giggle. They know you don’t mind.

“It’s not like you need to feed us!” calls out one of your bolder sons. Eric, probably. Your newest, unnamed child looks up hesitantly, then steps out of your arms to join his brothers. Lucas might be a nice name, you think idly. You don’t have a Lucas yet.

“That does help,” you admit. You put steel into your next words. “However, there are Rules in this house, and one of them is no messing around at bedtime. I know that bedtime is a traditional time for the Child or Double game, but four of you is pushing it.”

You’d say more, but there’s a knock at your back door. You turn to answer it, knowing that your sons will have evaporated before your fingers grasp the handle, and brace against the cold night air as you pull the door open.

Two identical little girls stand there. One has a bruise on her cheek, and has clearly been crying recently. The other - the other is a Doubler, just like your sons. After this long, you can tell the difference.

“Please,” the Doubler says, and her voice trembles on the word. “Please. She needs somewhere to stay.”

Part of you is shocked, already looking ahead to the potential legal issues. The rest of you is all mother, and you whisk her into the nice warm kitchen and get her a glass of water.

Your son’s bed will be occupied by someone else tonight. You think he’d have been okay with that.

Hi, what are some lesser known zutara fics you think deserve more attention?

to clarify, i'm not sure if some of these fully count as "lesser known" but i personally think they deserve more love:

always the bridesmaid by bluenebulae: modern au, oneshot. zuko is katara's blind date to sukka's wedding and it's cute as all hell <3

souvenirs we never lose by taliax: post-canon, multichapter. katara offers to heal zuko's scar again on a diplomatic mission in the northern water tribe. it's soft and wholesome and also there's fake dating which is always a win.

clothe me in seasons, dress me in snow by sadladybug: canon compliant, multichapter. be warned that this is heartbreak city. i cried like three times, but it's written so beautifully it's worth the pain.

following blue by boogum: canon divergent, multichapter. bluetara + zutara travelling together + a grouchy ostrich horse... what more could you want?

a warm embrace by ewinkie: canon divergent, multichapter. zuko and katara fall asleep together after the events of the southern raiders, and oops, now they can only sleep well when they're together... but that doesn't mean anything, right?

(the fluff is fluffing in this one. trust me.)

how (not) to care for katara by tiny_katara: canon divergent, multichapter. if you want zuko taking care of katara, delirious confessions, everyone knowing zk has feelings for each other but zk, and toph shenanigans... this is the fic for you <3

Cyborg: I can interface with satellites that allow me to perceive and measure countless electric signals and waves flying through space and the atmosphere. I can listen to the sun, live. But sure, let’s all freak out because Beast Boy just figured out he can see shrimp colors.

Beast Boy: Cranky ‘cuz you can’t see shrimp colors, aren’t ya?

Raven, not even looking up from her book: Tch. I can see shrimp colors too, it’s just there’s no way for me to see them without also perceiving 13 overlapping hell dimensions at the same time.

Beast Boy: Wh… what?

Cyborg: Seconded. What?

Raven: Oh it’s all ‘Raven why don’t you talk about yourself more’ until I mention the ‘Everyone’s face is peeled off’ dimension.

@stammed-cleams You. You get it.

“Mugen Train” was such a treat that I HAD to write some short stories with the infamous, focused, and amazing Flame Pillar, Rengoku Kyōjurō. Easily one of my favorite characters. His handsome, flamboyant self needed juuust a smidge of more screen time and it would have been perfect.

S/N: Majority of my fanfics will be written towards women of color. Big FYI. Otherwise, enjoy.

                                         Kimetsu no Yaiba: Flame Eternal

                               Chapter I: OVERWHELMING CONFESSION

“Good morning, Sunflower!”

“Kyōjurō, please!” You whispered through clenched teeth, “You can’t be scaring me this early in the morning.” The Fire Hashira, Rengoku Kyōjurō, surprised you with a greeting by hanging his head down from the rooftop of the Butterfly Estate.

“My apologies! I wanted to see you as soon as I could.” He jumped down with one hand behind his back. “Congratulations on becoming a Hashira! You have worked hard to get where you are, and that you should be proud of yourself!”

The fire in his eyes burned bright as always. He didn’t know it yet, but he was a driving force in you making it to the ranks, and it wasn’t easy. At all. You were a rare sight in Japan. Everyone still thought of you as a foreigner. No matter how good your Japanese was, not many could understand the concept that people of different colors could be a native to this country.

You have fought for acceptance for a long time, and with the rise of demons, that put unneeded targets on your back. Just like the others, you lost your family to them, and it was but the anger in your heart that brought you here - to avenge those who were killed by demons. You didn’t know if you really had what it took.

Kind and supportive words from Rengoku Kyōjurō had changed a couple of the most important minds, but others were not so keen on the idea. You pushed yourself every day, working and training day in and day out until your body shook with aches. You honestly wanted to give up many times, and tried, but there was someone always pulling you back and helping you to your feet.

“That’s because of you, Kyōjurō.”

He shook his head. “It’s because of you, Sunflower! With perseverance and vigor, you made it through Final Selection and achieved your goals in order to be a Hashira! Therefore, I wanted to be one of the first to congratulate you!”

The confidence and support of his words always made you get “butterflies” in your stomach and your cheeks warm beneath your brown skin. “Stop! You’re making me blush but,” you bowed, “Thank you, Kyōjurō, for everything.”

You had locked your hair months before you trained for the Final Selection. Your hair had been on as much of a journey as you had. It reached down to the shoulder blades. And with these locs, you were in need of a floral decoration to commemorate this special day as you donned your uniform.

“Now, to get a sunflower-”

“Right!” He handed a small bouquet of sunflowers, your favorite flower that he nicknamed you back during those harsh training days. “For you, _____!”

“Ah!” You received his early morning gift with glee. “Kyōjurō, you shouldn’t have!” One smell and you were hooked. “Thank you so much!” You set them down in the room Shinobu offered you to stay in. You clipped one off and wrapped it up on the left side of your head. “How do I look?”

He looked at you, surprised at first, and then with an ear-to-ear smile. “As beautiful as always, _____!”

You felt your heart thumping throughout your chest. His words of sincerity always made you feel like you belonged. Not to mention, his fiery gaze upon you held true when he spoke to and of you. “You’re much too kind, Kyōjurō.” Before you attended to your face, Kyōjurō was already before you, wiping away your falling tears.

“You’re crying. What’s wrong?”

Whenever your world began crumbling, he was there and ready to help you get through any self-doubt. He ended up being a shoulder to cry on when you least expected it. He rose to Hashira-dom before you, and yet didn’t leave you behind. You owed him something in return. “N-nothing! I’m happy.” You took hold of his wrists, lowering his hands. “Though I wonder how I’ll ever be able to show you my gratitude.”

“Hmph!” He clasped your hands in one swift motion and stared longingly into your coffee-colored eyes. “Marry me, _____!”

You deadpanned.

Nature filled in the silence.

“I said, “Marry me, _____!”

Your mouth dropped wide open, “MARRY YOU!?”

“Yes! Do you accept?”

“Wait, wait, wait!” You drew back your hands and stepped back. You rubbed your temples, momentarily confused. Stumped. Dumbfounded. “This is a test of some sort, right? A little bit of an early morning joke to keep me on my toes?”

He laughed heartily. “Not at all!” He locked his gaze on you as he crossed his arms over his chest. “I know that you will make a great wife!”

“Kyōjurō, I’m not like you or the others, as clear as they have made it in the past. I wouldn’t want to hinder you or mess up your reputation.”

“Our Master has allowed you to apply to become a Hashira; you worked hard to become a Hashira; and you have become more than a great friend to me. No matter what anyone else says, I have accepted you.” He closed in and held your hands once more. “I knew since training, to which you promised me your hand in marriage.”

“Eh!? You remembered that!?” You questioned.

“When I saw you at training for the first time. I knew that I had to make you mine! I have waited for this day for a long time. So, I will ask you again. _____.”

You gulped. “Yes, Kyōjurō?”

“Will you do me the honor of marrying me?”

“I-I,” your hands were clammy and your world started to spin. ‘What are you going to say? He asked you to marry him! Look, look! So what if you fed him a sweet potato every Friday and fell into his arms a few times? You need to let him down softly. Yeah! That’s it! Just refuse his proposal! He’ll understand-” Your mouth opened before you could finish. “Yes…?” You paused. ‘Bitch, did you just–?

His aura suddenly grew hot around you both. “Then I promise to make you happy, to protect you, to guide you, and to love you until death!” With overwhelming confessions like this, how could you refuse?

“That’s great! But shouldn’t we–” You made a fatal mistake. “Kyōjurō?” You blinked. “Oh no!” He was gone in a flash! “Kyōjurō, wait!” You shouted as you dashed out of the Butterfly Estate. You only got a quick glimpse of his flaming haori, but he was still so fast! You thought you possibly had him when you ran into the other Hashira, assembled for the Pillar Meeting.

“Ah, _____! I was just about to come and get you for the meeting.” Shinobu came before you with her usually endearing smile. “Congratulations on becoming a Hashira. It’s been a long time since we’ve had anyone enter into the ranks, and for it to be someone as unique as you says something.”

“As if! You were only able to join because of Rengoku, and nothing else.” Obanai hissed from atop a tree branch. You really hated his guts.

“But you can’t deny her strength. She did kill fifty demons in a year and a half. That’s at least impressive, right?” Tengen remarked. He was a nice guy, in a way, so you liked him.

Shinazugawa pointed his sword at you. “As long as she doesn’t get in the way of me killing demons, I could care less.”

And I could care less myself.’ You thought with a frown on your lips.

Mitsuri was at least nice enough to give you a smile and a wave. “You look so pretty in your uniform, _____!” You liked her the most, along with Shinobu.

Giyuu and Muichiro didn’t speak on the matter.

“Thank you to those most kind, and to the others, you’ll just have to get used to seeing me like I have to get used to seeing you. Anyways, I came here looking for Rengoku. Did he pass by yet?”

“By pass by, do you mean standing at the top of the roof behind you?” Tengen pointed out.

You looked confused as you turned around and felt your face just fall into shock as you saw him proudly standing on the rooftop - again - with a wide smile on his lips. “Kyōjurō!”

He gently took hold of you at the waist when you landed in front of him. “I’ve got you, Sunflower!” His eyes burned brighter than they ever had before, and the aura he exuded could be felt from miles away. “Everyone!” He turned to the Hashira below. “Let us welcome _____, our new Hashira, and my soon-to-be wife, to the team!” Everyone’s face cracked. “Treat her like she’s one of our own!”

Really, what would you do without this flamboyant Hashira?

Sneak Peek: Lady of the Tides

"The water churns like the blood racing in her veins, and for an instant, her confidence falters in the face of so much raw power. Then, Katara remembers calling a storm surge in the middle of still waters and washing entire crews of Fire Nation soldiers overboard. She remembers throwing out her arms and holding the rain at bay, then calling it back to her in deadly shards of ice. Katara opens her eyes and thinks that this might be the first fair fight she’s had in years.

A wave rears up, about to break right over her, and she reaches for it, crouching low. Rising, she arcs her arm high over her head, her other arm coming up to join as she pulls the wave higher, higher, and over, until it has leapt the ship entirely. With both hands, she shoves the water outwards, pushing back the wave that had been coming from the other side. The bow starts to tip up sharply, a wave rising just beneath the hull. The ship crests the top of the wave and starts to slip steeply down the other side. Palms down, she sweeps her arms up from her hips to lay level with the horizon before her, and the sea behind the wave rises up to level the course and keeps the prow form plunging under the water. There is only time for a breath before the next wave."

Katara wasn’t nearly as innocent as she had been the last time they met and she had come to a decision: She was definitely going to sleep with Prince Zuko before the month was over.

Callout post for @itsmlgsimba, who thinks that Kaminari is literally only an idiot and that’s the extent of his personality.

((Originally this was only gonna be a few screenshots and a pointed comment or two but noooo, my Zappy Boi deserves love and attention too))

So clearly, he’s not the smartest character. That’s not what I’m debating. In this essay I will distinguish one Kaminari Denki’s defining character traits to prove, once and for all, that he is more than just an idiot. Starting with the earliest chapters!

The bus ride to USJ is really the first time we see Kaminari in action, and the first substantial bit of dialogue we get is that. Call me crazy, but that doesn’t seem like the vocabulary of a cut-and-dried idiot. ((There’s another translation, slightly different, that shows off his eloquence equally well…I just can’t find it so rip me.))

This is one of my favorite roasts, ever, and that’s because it has the potential to be insulting on a variety of levels. If the target can’t understand the vocab used, then they’re stupid as well as possessing a steamed-turd personality.

So, pretty cool intro to Kami as a character, and then the rest of USJ happens.

So his Quirk has pretty clear limits at the beginning. Still, he knows how to work around those limits, for the most part. This is the beginning of the image the majority of the fandom has of Kaminari—a drooling idiot.

After USJ, the next really significant event for our kids in 1-A are the finals right before summer break (and the training camp).

He’s got the worst grades in the class. Now, that in and of itself doesn’t actually say much about intelligence, especially since a certain grapefuck has a perfect score on his intelligence and is still hovering around the middle of the class, grades-wise. Especially since Kami dead up says he didn’t study at all. ((Speaking from experience, it’s hard to get good grades if you don’t do the work or study on your own, no matter how intelligent you actually are.))

However, we’re never actually told the grades for each ranking. So, for all we know, Kami could be ranked last with an average in the 80’s.

After the training camp (and Kamino), everyone moves in together and we really start to see more of everyone’s personalities with the room competition. And this is Kami’s.

3 skateboards, 3 visible hats, 3 visible pairs of shoes, what looks like a legit fucking turntable on the desk there, a few watches on the wall, a basketball, a weird looking floor lamp, dartboard, patterned blanket, license plates…Kaminari isn’t an idiot, he’s a damn hoarder. Look at this. This is worse than my room.

Breaking this room down more in-depth, this looks like the room of a kid from a fairly well-off family who could coast on looks, money, and minimal personal effort to get by. Of course there’s really no way to confirm or deny that, since we never see the other Kaminari’s (either in the anime or in the manga). Kaminari is clearly an active guy—he’s got three different skateboards for fuck’s sake, PLUS a random basketball—and his personal tastes are…interesting. Honestly, from his room alone he reads more like a teenager with ADHD/ADD than anything else. Very scatterbrained, has one or two areas they’re really strong in (hyper fixations, fixations), often moving…in a few shots of the class actually sitting in their seats, Kami can be seen playing with Ojirou’s tail.

((I would’ve added a shot of Kami playing with Ojirou’s tail, but I couldn’t find the chapter I wanted…))

Look at this. Look at this! He knows Hemingway and his works well enough to immediately jump to that as the basis for his proposed hero name. Hemingway isn’t even Japanese, so the odds of him and his anthology getting covered in any sort of depth are low, to say the least. Speaking as a student from Hemingway’s country, I didn’t even know what the fuck Kami was talking about when he referred to A Farewell to Arms—all I thought of when I saw Hemingway was The Old Man and the Sea! Kaminari Denki knows about an old American writer dude better than an American student who took higher level English classes all throughout their school years!!

But he’s just an idiot.

During the Provisional License Exam, when Kirishima and Bakugou were made into meatball babies, Kaminari was the one to get them out of that.

Granted, he did have a little help from Bakugou and his little grenade, but literally all that Bakugou did was toss it to him. The rest of the plan was pure Kami. That’s really the last time Kaminari got significant screen time, until these most recent manga chapters so…

MANGA SPOILERS PAST CHAP. 195

This time, it’s Shinsou who makes the best point. It’s not necessarily the fact that Kami is intelligent, per se, but he definitely is capable of using his past experiences as fuel to make himself better now. He can learn, and that is what truly breaks the idea that he’s just a simple idiot for me.

Also, the majority of the people painting Kami as an idiot are forgetting one crucial fact: he got into Yuuei. It doesn’t matter what course you’re in, if you’re truly as stupid as half the fandom makes Kami out to be then you don’t make the cut. For Americans, it’s the equivalent of an Ivy League institution: you don’t get in on looks or money alone. Remember waaayyyyyy back at the beginning of the series, when Midoriya was stressing about the practical part of the Yuuei entrance exam? The reason he wasn’t just stressing about the exam period is because there was a written portion too! Midoriya was confident enough in his skills at taking tests to spend all of his time and energy focusing on the practical exam; for all we know, Kami did the same thing, only reversed!

You 👏 don’t 👏 get 👏 into 👏 the👏 hero👏 course👏 at 👏 Yuuei 👏 on 👏 just 👏 the👏 practical 👏 exam👏👏!!!

TL:DR—Kaminari is less intelligent than some of his classmates (*cough cough* BAKUGOUTODOROKIIIDAMOMOMIDORIYA), but that doesn’t make him completely stupid. Even putting aside the question of how stupid, exactly, he is…he’s not just the class idiot! He pulls literary references out of literally nowhere, based off the smallest things, and seems to have a mastery of Japanese rarely found anywhere. He reads more as an ADHD or ADD teenager with a fixation on literature and language, and as a result he doesn’t score too well on tests because that’s not how his brain works.

He’s not stupid, y’all are just mean.
