After recently helping my girlfriend out, and realizing how many awful and misguiding pose tutorials they are out there, I decided to gather together the most helpful tutorials (in my opinion) and add a few useful tips for first time Blender users. This list is only for Blender. SorryFailMilkShape users, I wont be covering any of that in this masterlist.
Tutorials
Kilhian’s Lair Tutorial (part I) - Good for explaining how to get Cliptool into blender.
Kilhian’s Lair Tutorial (part II) - Ignore part B of the tutorial, it is not necessary!
Kihian’s Lair Tutorial (part III) - Actually a very good pose making tutorial. This is the one I recommend to anyone who asks me.
PixiePixie’s ingame PosePlayer tutorial - Only complete newbies to poses will need to read this, it just explains how to use the player in game.
LittleMissSimmies Tutorial on importing two rigs - Very good, this will help anyone who is confused on how to get more than one rig into blender. It will also work for importing pet, toddler and child rigs.
Downloads
Downloads for Blender
- Blender - You’ll need this, obviously!
- Sims3ClipTool - Needed for extracting poses out of Blender.
- Sims 3 Rigs - The rigs that you’ll need for making poses.
- S3PE - Needed for packaging up the poses for the game.
Downloads for the game
- Pose Player - 100% Necessary!
- Pose Player Addon - No entirely necessary, but very useful.
- OMSP and Tippy OMSP - Pretty necessary if you want to create a scene in game.
A few tips and tricks...
- When it comes to releasing your poses, DO NOT forget to include the pose codes in the post. There is nothing more annoying that going to use a pose, only to find out that there are no codes!
- If you want to hide another rig, or hide an object you are posing your rigs around, simple hit H on your keyboard. To get an object back, hit A to select everything and then hit Alt+H to get everything back.
- Google is your friend. If one of the tutorials I have listed doesn’t work for you, or there is something you are confused about, go to Google.
- PoseLists are for potatoes. No one uses them anymore, and they’re just a waste of time to create, which is why I didn’t link any tutorials here.
Good luck!

After a very long hiatus on Second Life and playing a lot of Fallout: NV and Borderlands, I’ve decided to venture back into Sims. I’ve been teaching my girlfriend @lolabourbonsims to make poses, I’ve been learning how to get my meshes into Sims (which is proving difficult) and I’m planning on making some decor/furniture items in the future.
So...
