some of the furniture i've painted in the past few weeks. everything freehand and imperfect and that's ok. inspired by weaving patterns, embroidery and batik dyeing
the things that we've been forced to manage through crowdfunding websites are insane. victims of a genocide are having to market themselves as someone who is worthy of being saved.
living for more than a year under an active genocide while seeing your oppressors cruelty and disregard for your life increase is so horrendous.
every single person in gaza has lost too much. i don't think everyone must have to share their personal loss in order to be deemed as a person worthy of safety. i think we should try to help those we can see asking for it.
i request you to help alaa and her children. she needs to buy supplies and remain safe. her area was bombed very recently. her fundraiser has been verified.

In America the arrival of night-time or periods of rest cannot be accepted, nor can the Americans bear to see the technological process halted. Everything has to be working all the time, there has to be no let-up in man's artificial power, and the intermittent character of natural cycles (the seasons, day and night, heat and cold) has to be replaced by a functional continuum that is sometimes absurd . . . You may seek to explain this in terms of fear, perhaps obsessional fear, or say that this unproductive expenditure is an act of mourning. But what is absurd is also admirable. The skylines lit up at dead of night, the air-conditioning systems cooling empty hotels in the desert and artificial light in the middle of the day all have something both demented and admirable about them. The mindless luxury of a rich civilization, and yet of a civilization perhaps as scared to see the lights go out as was the hunter in his primitive night.

Should I put $10 towards food, or towards education and development in Gaza?
This is a real question, not just theory or philosophy… a question I face every day, and I found myself needing to answer it clearly.
Today in Gaza, people are hungry… but also, people are lost. There's a graduate sitting on rubble with no laptop to even work on. There's a university student studying by candlelight, without internet to continue their education. There's an engineer, who instead of building, is searching for a box of aid to feed his family.
Do you know what this means? It means the occupation doesn't want to kill us with bullets, it wants to kill us with ignorance, with helplessness, by turning us into just people waiting for a bag of flour, waiting for aid… and that's the biggest crime against us. Today we all in Gaza need a bite to eat… but tomorrow? Do I want to spend my whole life depending on others to live? This is the question that worries me the most!! Or should I be able to provide for myself and my family and rebuild my life from scratch?
That's why, instead of that $10 being a meal for one day, let it be an investment in a student who will emerge from under the rubble, will learn, and will be able to provide their own food forever.
Let it be a share of Esnad, not just so Gaza can live another day… but so that Gaza can rise, stand, and persevere forever.
Help us build a future for the coming days in Gaza. We at ISNAD Foundation provide free scholarships for students. Help us rebuild Gaza by building its students and empowering them to have a suitable learning environment.
Gaza students need your support. Final exams are about to start and as you know there are no universities in Gaza so education is online but there is another obstacle which is the internet and electricity!! But we at Isnad with your help and donations will provide a safe and dedicated place to study so that students can complete their education. All you have to do is make a small donation. A student sponsorship is equal to $150. There is no problem with your small donation, a little on a little is worth a lot.
The most important thing about this is that the place we got requires us to pay rent within Saturday, which is four days away, so we need your help to raise $1,500 within the four days. We have $225 so far.
Hey all, please support if you can! They urgently need to raise this $1,500 by Saturday as they will lose their booking! As Israel has destroyed all educational infrastructure in Gaza, please support Gazan students who want nothing more than to continue their education!

The Israeli military now occupies 50 percent of Gaza and has doubled the size of its so-called buffer zone since relaunching its war against the strip last month.
As a result, Israel has dramatically expanded its occupation of Gaza and is “squeezing Palestinians into shrinking wedges of land,” AP reported.
The buffer zone, where the Israeli army “has razed Palestinian homes, farmland, and infrastructure to the point of uninhabitability,” now extends as far as 3 kilometers into Gaza in some places, according to a map issued by the Israeli military.
Israeli troops also occupy the Philadelphi Corridor, a strip of land along the Gaza–Egypt border, and the Netzarim Corridor, which bisects Gaza in two from north to south.
Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israeli forces would occupy a third corridor, “Morag,” which will further divide Gaza and cut off the city of Rafah on the Egyptian border from the city of Khan Yunis.

This is one of the oldest surviving recordings of a trans person.
Masoud El Amaratly (1897-1944) was an Iraqi trans singer who became famous in 1920s Baghdad for his folk music. He worked as a farmer before transitioning in his teens. The mustarjil, a term similar to trans man, then moved to the city and sang in cafés. A music agent discovered him there and his fame spread across West Asia.
Enjoy this 1925 recording of him singing the traditional Iraqi song, "Khadri al Chai" ("Please Make Tea"). Check out Ajam's website for more.

On the seventh of October I am teacher Mahmoud Atta. I work as a teacher teaching secondary school students.
On October 7th, I was getting ready to go to school. On October 7th, while I was getting ready to go to school, my life was completely turned upside down. Israel declared war on Gaza. After that, they announced their entry into the roads and cities and forced us to leave the city from Khan Yunis to Rafah
.
We passed through a road called the Road of Death. Tanks were everywhere. Bullets were raining down. We passed through a road called the Road of Death. Tanks were everywhere. Bullets were raining down. If you survived, your brother would not.
We've all seen the end of the world movies on the big screen. We have all seen end of the world movies on cinema screens, but what we saw was real and not imaginary. I wish it was imaginary.
We finally arrived in Rafah Finally we arrived in Rafah, the safe city as it is called, but where to go? The sea is behind us, the weather is freezing, and the borders are closed with Egypt on the other side and Israel on the third and fourth sides. I found myself making a tent out of nylon for myself and my family.
No water, no electricity, no food, no place to go to the bathroom, no life. I wish I had died sooner.
We returned after a long time to our city. After a long time, we returned to our city. The first sight was that a giant monster had entered the city and left it in ruins, so much so that I did not recognize my house or my neighborhood. Oh my God, is this Khan Yunis?

some of you don’t seem to realize that In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade and he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him till he cried out in his anger and his shame "I am leaving, I am leaving" but the fighter still remains
at the Washington DC pro-Palestine protest (NOT Hands Off) today they unraveled a list of all Palestinians murdered in the last year and a half. Brian Becker and Eugene Puryear spoke and tied absolutely everything we are going through right now back to the devastating effects that imperialism and capitalism have on all of us.
this is what should be happening. there needs to be a unifying message and a cause to rally behind that involves actually changing the way things exist today, not restoring this country back to the ways that lead us here to begin with. this is not purity testing. this is the type of anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist movement that is necessary in the current moment and anything else is a waste of precious time.
