she either sounds giddy, or it’s you making up stuff you want to hear. “ no problem, really. you take care of yourself, ‘lright ? there, i sounded like your dad for a moment. ” the sudden loss of confidence whenever he talked to someone on the phone was honestly baffling. day liked to think it was mostly because he’d been taught to be wary of an attack whenever he used a communication device of any sort, but it probably had more to do with his own need to see people face-to-face than with anything like his status as a demigod.
for a fraction of a second, he was afraid she’d refuse. he had spoken on a whim ( like most things he did, in truth ) and spent a few instants hanging on to the other end of the phone, waiting for her to speak again. when she did, relief flooded his chest, and day immediately blamed himself for fussing that much. “ friday it is, then. i’ll let my mom know i’ll be out. she can handle the shop without me for a while. ” after all, she’d made do ever since he was a little kid. as useful as he could be, ashera pernington had run a business before he’d even been born. “ i could come pick you up, if you’d like ? it’s just a short ride, but— you know. ” gods, can i get any more awkward ? he hated it. and loved it too, but far be it from him to admit him with at least two of his friends giggling behind their hands.
Image

another giggle followed his words, and eleanor couldn’t help but nod as a reflex. “ you did sound very much like a dad, ” she agreed, although her tone carried no accusation. “ but it’s nice to know you worry. ” and that was more truthful than she’d like to lead on. eleanor was always used to be the one caring for others, and she had to admit that change was quite       pleasant.

teeth lightly grazed her lower lip as he spoke, giddiness growing more evident in her posture. “ yeah, that... that’d be great, if you can. ” eleanor was fairly certain she’d be all but a blushing mess when the time would come, but that certainly wouldn’t stop her from accepting day’s offer. merely going out with him sounded wonderful, and to have him pick her up as well made it sound almost like... a date. “ i’ll text you the address. it’s not that far from the café, so you should find it easily. ” a pause followed, smile tentative as she finally dared to speak again. “ i’m really looking forward to it. ”

“Hmmmmm…I’ll definitely remember that,” his eyes fell to his desk, chewing on his bottom lip as he leaned slightly back in his chair. Tea could be nice and       soothing, actually. And well, it definitely IS better than alcohol. He leaned his head back up an tilted it slightly, “I suppose it’d be HELPFUL if I actually knew what campus you went to, though,” a slight tease escaped out between his teeth, “Since we don’t go to the same colleges, you know?” His lips cracked a slight smile, “Do you go there at night at all? Because that’s probably the time I’d be going to that place.”
Image

"Oh      sorry,” she chuckled lightly, only now realizing that small slip of hers. “I go to the Arts school just a few blocks from here. Majoring in fashion design.” Which he didn’t exactly ask about, but hopefully that wouldn’t be perceived as unwanted information. “Sometimes.” Eleanor nodded to his next question. “Mostly when I’m working late on a project and need to unwind.” Which was honestly more often than she’d like to admit. “Maybe I’ll see you there.”

“I’ve suffered worse. It’s not a big deal.” Magnus said, keeping a neutral expression as he spoke. And for him, it wasn’t. Violence was such a huge part of his life; part of this job, hardly anything fazed him anymore. And even he knew coming back from another encounter with Matthias could have been worse than this.
This was also something new for him. For someone to worry about him. Though, a part of him wondered if it was genuine or maybe she was only trying to get in his good graces because she was new to his organization. “Like I said, you’re still new here. So there’s thing you do not know. But in the future, please refrain from coming in here without my permission. But, I do appreciate your concern.” Contrary to popular belief, he wasn’t always cold. But he usually liked to remain indifferent towards those who worked under him.
Image
Magnus was usually good at reading other’s expressions. But as his dark gaze locked with hers, he couldn’t. Then she spoke, her tone softened which took him by surprise; which his features did not indicate. “Could you gives these files to Christopher on your way out.” Was all he said before handing her the papers he’d just finished before she came in.

At least, it wasn’t all lost. Her presence may have made him uncomfortable at first, but it seemed to pay off in the end. He was thankful for her concern, and Eleanor knew there was a good place to start as any; if she played her cards right, perhaps she’d be allowed in his office again, maybe even to help him tend to his wounds. There wasn’t much she could do to reach him in those circumstances, anyway; she used to be a healer, before her entire world came crashing down, and some old habits died hard.

Image

“Of course,” she promptly accepted his request, approaching Magnus to grab the papers he offered her. Hand brushed gently again his ( a fleeting, purposeful gesture ), and Eleanor flashed him a soft smile. After all the months she had spent perfecting it, perfecting that mask of hers, she hoped it would prove believable. “I hope you feel better in the morning,” was what she left him with before leaving the room.

“Don’t be stupid,” Ruff herself had told Astrid. “You’re gonna be fine. I mean, no roommate is better than me, but I promise there will be at least one person looking for a room who is not a complete nutjob.”
Truth be told, Ruffnut was actually a terrible roommate. She was messy and loud, and when her twin brother would show up unannounced the two of them would inevitably drive Astrid up a wall. Logically, Astrid knew all of this. In her HEART, though, she was just sad that her childhood friend was dropping out and going back home (which wasn’t completely unpredictable, but still). On top of that, she was terrified of finding a new roommate.
“It’s not like anyone can be that much worse than Ruff was,” Hiccup told her on the phone. Astrid reluctantly agreed.
And so here she was, Astrid’s new roommate. She told her something about just coming back from a few months abroad and Astrid being a life safer. The blonde just pointed the girl - Eleanor, was it? - towards Ruff’s old room without saying much. She looked sane enough, which should be a good sign. Astrid would probably start appreciating it soon. For now? She just missed her best friend.
Image
Oh— I took down the curtains, I wasn’t expecting someone to be interested in the room so soon.” And those curtains smelled like at least four illegal substances, Astrid was sure. “Laundry day is tomorrow, you should have them back soon.”

Eleanor had thought that going abroad to study was scary, but somehow standing in that dorm with her new roommate proved to make her far more uneasy. There was something about Astrid’s demeanour that led her to believe she was not happy to have Eleanor around for the next year. Perhaps the blonde was hoping to have the dorm all to herself, or just to share it with someone else altogether.

Great. The school year hadn’t even started yet, and already Eleanor managed to completely suck at making friends.

“Oh, it’s fine,” she was quick to assure, shaking her head. And really, it was. Curtains weren’t that big of a deal, anyway, but all Eleanor heard in that statement was how Astrid had in no way counted for her to just show up and take up the room. The brunette stifled down a sigh, and instead put on her best smile. “I doubt I’ll be spending much time here, anyway,” she made sure to stress, as if to let the other know she wouldn’t be a bother. “I’m always in the library, or working on a new project, so...” She shrugged lightly.

Image

Silence fell upon them for a moment, and suddenly Eleanor felt exposed in that moment, as if she should come up with something friendly to say in return. “So, um       what are you majoring in?”

“I dunno, do you think we’d have the time to take care of a pet when little Sophie could come out any day now?” Magnus questioned. Not that he was completely against the idea. But it just didn’t seem like a good idea with Eleanor being pregnant. It would be like having a child when they had one along the way. “But–if you really want one. I wouldn’t say no.” He said with a shrug of his shoulders.
Image

So maybe her request was mostly the hormones talking, the sight of a homeless kitty tugging at her heartstrings more than usual      but Eleanor never expected Magnus to actually agree, let alone so quickly. Brows rose expectantly, lips curling up into a wide grin as she stared at him. “Really?? You mean it?” She reached for his hands, inching closer as a giggle escaped her lips. “Yes, I do want one! It’d be so great, Magnus! And Sophie could have a little friend, too!”

And he touches you again, For the first time in months. You feel transported back in time Like maybe, everything between this kiss and the last one 5 months ago was all just part of your imagination. And you can taste him again. His tongue is in your mouth And you’re not sure if you want more of him or more of his love. And you know you’re being selfish. You’re being destructive. You’re destroying all effort that you’ve made to move on, Just to feel his mouth on yours again and his hands all over your body. But maybe it’s worth it. This time, maybe he’s worth it.

Spit in my mouth baby, I want to taste more of your love (via weaksorry)

“It is nice to have something that reminds you of them, doesn’t it?” He can’t help the small grin that’s now curled upon his lips. While he rarely thinks of her much these days; she was such a vital part of his life when he was younger. She was what shaped the man that he was. And it’s nice to find something that brings back fond memories of her. He wants to question if she’s lost her mother like he has, but despite his lack of social grace, he knows that’s not something you ask someone you barely just met.
Image
He’s grateful for the shift in topic. As it is quite a heavy topic between mere acquaintances. He considers her question. If he should have another cup, or finally settle on food. He’s been out all day trying to avoid getting caught and being sent back to the castle. “Could I trouble you for some food?” The mention of it now has his stomach protesting the lack of food it’s been given today.

It was a rare occurrence, for Eleanor to mention her mother ( especially to someone she had just met )       however, she was glad she had done so this time. It felt nice, to be able to speak of such a subject with someone who understood. “It is. Sometimes it feels like they’re not even gone at all,” she confesses in a quiet tone, before smiling softly.

Image

Nodding promptly at his question, Eleanor’s quick to fall into a more cheerful demeanor, as if such a serious topic was never brought up. “Of course! I can ask the cook to make you something quick      would... an omelette do? It’s one of his specialties, I’m sure you’ll love it.”

Niall barely swayed, even as she leaned most of her weight against him. Had he known what she was thinking, he would’ve felt a bit guilty. Although he was helping her mostly out of kindness (he couldn’t very well leave an injured young woman alone in the woods so late at night in good conscious), he had ulterior motives for helping Eleanor. If he could convince her to accompany him to Wall, he could introduce her to Samuel, and they could have their own happily ever after.
Image
“Of course I’m right,” he said with that breezy, exaggerated confidence he’d perfected over the years. “We’ll be fine as long as we keep moving.” He wasn’t surprised by the questions, though he took a moment to consider how to answer. He disliked flat out lying, was painfully transparent when he tried, but he had no idea if she’d help him if she knew the truth. So, as he often did, Niall found himself settling for half truths that were just close enough to reality to avoid suspicion.
“I don’t know how I got here,” he admitted sheepishly. Having an idea wasn’t the same thing as knowing. “Even before I met you, it’s been a really strange day. I was looking at a gift my parents gave me, and I somehow ended up here, near you.”

She was surprised to hear Niall’s words. For a moment, Eleanor had even dared to think ill things of him, and yet he proved to be just as confused as she was. Brows rose slightly as she heard him speak, her stride slowing down ever so slightly. “Just like magic?” she asked, chocolate hues widening. It was no secret, how there were those among mere humans who could perform magic in secret. Eleanor had heard of those tales, and she would be lying if she said she wasn’t somewhat curious.

Image

“It’s like you were... teleported.” She even sounded a little giddy now, lips curling up into a hint of a smile. “Perhaps we were meant to meet. I surely wouldn’t be able to roam about your world on my own.” As independent as Eleanor liked to claim she was, this was entirely new territory to her; she didn’t even want to think what would happen if she had come across someone with bad intentions.

It was such a surreal experience to face Eleanor now. It felt like the last time Astrid had seen her had been forever ago, yet at the same time she felt like no time had passed at all. Eleanor’s smile and her beautiful eyes were still the same and it brought Astrid back to their high school days, before all she saw of Eleanor was a blurry and pixelated webcam version of her. It made her chest feel tight and heavy, and for a brief moment Astrid forgot the rest of the people around them. She blinked and forced herself back to the present.
Image
“I’ve been well,” Astrid forced out after clearing her throat, her polite smile a little strained. The last time she’d been so worried about how on earth to talk to Eleanor had been— Well, on their first date. “I’ve been doing some research work and it’s driving me up the wall, but it’s good to be back home.”
Astrid was sure she was being very obvious about the  a w k w a r d n e s s  she felt. At least she vividly remembered not quite being able to hide much from Eleanor’s eyes. She couldn’t guess whether or not the brunette’s skills when it came to reading Astrid were still the same, but she still felt a little under the spotlight. And oh, she was sure even their friend could see it, if the way kept out of the conversation was of any indication.
“—And you?”

The strain in Astrid’s voice was obvious      but, then again, perhaps that was only in Eleanor’s eyes, who still knew her so well even after all that time apart. She wondered if Astrid truly was as well as she claimed, or if there was more to her current situation that she’d like to lead on        too bad Eleanor couldn’t ask her about it. It wasn’t her place anymore, to want to learn more about Astrid’s life; she had lost that right once she decided it hurt too much to keep trying to keep their relationship together.

Image

Rosy lips twisted into the best smile she could manage, though entirely certain it wasn’t all that believable, anyway. “I’m glad.” She did mean those words. Despite their current predicament, she would hate for Astrid to be in a tough spot ( though perhaps there was the tiniest part of her that was saddened the other was doing so well without her ). “Me? Well, I’ve been busy, too. I’m working with a big fashion design      still haven’t gotten to the part where I actually... design all that much.” She smiled softly. “But we have to start somewhere, I suppose.”

Was that oversharing? It felt a little like it. But her thoughts didn’t dwell on that too much, as Eleanor suddenly realized their mutual friend was nowhere to be found      great. She had probably grown tired of being left out, and decided to seek attention elsewhere. “        This is... a little weird, huh?” she finally spoke after a moment of silence, awkward smile on her lips. “Being back here.”
